‘The writing process is, most easily, disrupted by procrastination’ – Making writing fun!

UK author Stephanie Reeves earned her degree in psychology and trains at the postgraduate level in psychoanalytic psychotherapy of children and adolescents. She is involved in education with young people with learning disabilities, autism, and developmental difficulties. Her experience applying writing techniques to skill-set levels in individuals has been enhanced through her work in volunteering, working and studying in various countries, including Sri Lanka and Thailand. Using the genre of English Writing Tools, she offers her publication debut with HOW TO WRITE A PARAGRAPH USING STUDY SKILLS.

Stephanie’s polished skills in writing (obvious!) make this book an invaluable aid, not only to students, but also to everyone who puts pen (or keyboard) to paper (or screen). As she openly states, ”Are you a parent trying to figure out a way to help your child with a writing assignment? Or maybe you’re a teacher trying to make writing fun. Perhaps even a student who’s struggling to put two sentences together for an essay. You might be a working professional who wants to expand their business with a strong social media presence. Whoever you are, the good news is, with the proper approach to studying and writing, you’ll begin to excel with five simple steps.’ And to provide a rapid overview of the contents of her message, the five steps of the title are Understanding the functions and purpose of a paragraph, Identifying paragraphs and recognizing the structure of a good one, Composing your powerful paragraph using study skills, Fleshing our your paragraph without fluff or waffling, and Using study skills to proofread and edit your paragraph to perfection.

The tone of writing is lighthearted and entertaining – the gift of a fine teacher being one who makes learning fun! Follow the steps in this book and discover the pleasure of writing skillfully and with rewarding results. At book’s end Stephanie provides a useful glossary of writing terms – active verb, adjective, antonym, connotation, ideate, denotation, noun and noun-verb agreement, et cetera - that belongs on the desktop of every student! Very highly recommended.

First of all, I like the fact that you put your background knowledge in the introduction because it makes your writing more convincing.

Secondly, The sentences are well delivered so it helps people (like me) whose mother tongue is not English to understand your book in a convenient way.

Thirdly, I love the illustrations given in the beginning of each topic because they are very relatable.

Then I also highlighted your tips to check the draft backward is a mind blowing for me since mostly people don't do that way, I assume.

Moreover, I can feel the energy and spice are being added into the book whole heartedly.

Finally, I highly appreciate that you chunk the huge concept into small topics. Yet, I found too much information (too many subtopics before you jump into the each step). In my opinion, probably, those parts could be made as a separated book.

This is a how-to for writing paragraphs that is useful for those of us who never received explicit instruction in writing. I'm a graduate student, and I still found this to be a useful reference on the nuts and bolts of paragraphs! The organization of the book as a whole didn't really jive with me — there's a lot of great information packed in there (in smaller, well-organized subsections) but overall it feels a little disjointed.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Use your study skills to write great paragraphs. This is a fresh and effective approach. Most of us learned to write paragraphs in fourth or fifth grade English class. Lots of rules. Then at some point in high school, some of us take an advanced writing or English lit class. More rules. In college, we write some more, but this time most of us know the rules. We seek style and our own unique voice. What's great about this book is that it uses a different and simpler technique to learn to write great paragraphs--study skills. If you're not the greatest at studying, don't worry. The book focuses on what good study skills are first and then uses those techniques to help you write powerful paragraphs.

For most Spanish speakers, learning a second language is difficult. To teach, perhaps a little more difficult for many reasons that are not relevant now. Writing has always been the most ignored. In your book you express different ideas and variants that teachers often do not take into account, I think it is a powerful tool because it helps us not only in the writing process but also in the knowledge to face it

The blocked paragraphs in this book makes it very easy to read and the direct voice makes the book seem like a personal handbook to reference back every time there is an obstacle when writing. In addition, every chapter has a TLDR along with a short challenge for practise.

This book starts with the reader choosing a subject to write about, then proceeds to explain how to write the paragraph's structure depending on the style, and finally guides the reader to confidently write further paragraphs.

The book acknowledges there isn't a 'one size fits all' so includes anecdotes so the reader and author are on the same page. There is also a chapter for those who really struggle with ways to overcome these difficulties.
