Kelly thinks it's all over. Her effort to feed the poor. And it made her do something so terrible her parents never spoke about it afterwards. Now her friend is about to start the nightmare all over again.
Books that make me cry tend to get high ratings. The ending of this made me cry for reasons both personal and emotional.
Without giving away spoilers, the book is set in Glasgow in the 1990s. It is about the friendship and actions of two schoolgirls and how they tried to be Robin Hood. The story hits on the poverty of certain areas as well as how some sensitive people see the world. I don't feel I have read many books that can accurately do both.
It is worth reading and I recommend it. Not as a children's book in particular. It deals with themes better than a book aimed at an older audience would.
I loved the writing style of the book, how it shifted between Kelly’s memory and her present. The author also really managed to project a young girls mind quite perfectly. The reason I gave it 3 stars was for the story itself it didn’t seem to go anywhere in the end, in other words your lead to think something big happened but turns out to be simple. However this could be understood as the book is written from a young girls mind and that usually tends to be how it works, which a lot of young children could relate including me. Overall it was a fun, light and quick read that I very much enjoyed.
