I was very touched by this book, and the wonderful way it was constructed as a tribute to Saadya Eherenpries ZL. Having navigated through the special needs medical and education system in Australia I could relate to many of the experiences outlined.
I know that the Jewish world is small, but geographically I live about as far as you can physically get from New York. Yet amongst the contributors to this book one of my friends was on the Darkenu program with Saadya, his brother in law is a former yeshiva housemate and Bnei Akiva friend, and I have met several of the other contributors who wrote of their experiences.
With all the personal connections, and the wonderful contributions about how Saadya was delivered a quality of life and how people learned so much from him, this book was truly inspiring.
“It is also to share our story... yours and mine... as I grew to appreciate that what I initially thought was a mistake on the part of our Creator, was, in fact, a gift, one that I did not fully appreciate, well, into far too long a time.” – Ahava Ehrenpreis writing about her son, Saadya. Sometimes I request a review copy of a book out of sheer curiosity. Sometimes that curiosity is connected to something personal, as was my request for “More Than Special: Perspective from the World of Special Needs” by Ahava Ehrenpreis (The Shaar Press).
