A long-ago kiss neither can forget. A risk neither can take.
Clara Chase is looking for something new. After a coveted career as a model and social media influencer, she is looking for something more. When her father hands the family’s charter jet company—SkyChase—over to her and her brothers, she can’t really see herself fitting in. That all changes when her brother Cam hands her the reigns of a new foundation. Filled with new purpose, Clara feels like her life is finally on track. Until her brother insists she share an office with the one man she never wanted to see again. The man who kissed her and disappeared for nine long years. The only man that had ever stolen her heart.
James Lagos wants to start over. Back in Chicago after catching his fiancé sleeping with his best pilot, he’s desperate for a reset. His best friend’s job offers to help set up SkyChase’s new helicopter division is just what he needs to distance himself from the mess he left in Texas. But he hadn’t counted on the one woman that could bring it all crashing down—Clara Chase—Cam’s little sister. He shouldn’t have kissed her all those years ago and he shouldn’t want her as bad as he does now, but he can’t seem to stop. All he can do is hope his life doesn’t fall apart all over again.
Such a good story!! We were introduced to Clara and James in book 1 of the series and could see the chemistry even then! And it just got better and hotter in this book! Also we got a little bit more interaction with Carter, so I'm looking forward to his book!
You never forget your first kiss. Years later, it still lingers in the air, ready for lift off..
Ms. McKinley successfully maneuvers the controls of a love meant to be.
Clara Chase has left a modelling career to find her place in the family's company. What she didn't expect to find was the only man who ever stole her heart. Her first kiss. Her brother's best friend. Will love lift off in the direction it should have taken from their first kiss?
Swoon-worthy James Lagos returns to Chicago after catching his cheating fiance with one of his pilots. He needs a fresh start and helping his best friend build a new charter jet company is just what he needs. The catch--he has to share an office with his best friend's little sister. The one he kissed years ago. The line he crossed. Now he's fighting the urge to kiss her again. His feelings for her never left his heart.
And that second-first kiss happens...
"...he could remember every moment of it, as if it had been etched into his soul. He could feel her breath on his lips, the silk of her hair slipping through his fingers, the friction of her delicate tongue as it tangled with his. Jesus, aside from their first kiss, no other kiss had made him feel this alive."
James and Clara's story is a romance filled with lasting love and hot chemistry! And there is some turbulence along the ride that only true love survives, and makes that happily-ever-after so well-deserved. No one writes a love story like Mindy McKinley that has all the feel-goods and leaves you smiling. Waiting for the next in the Chase family!
Thank you Ms. McKinley for an advanced copy! Your stories always make me smile!
Readers...this can be read as a stand-alone but you will love the brother/best-friend's story! Chase Family Book 1 - Up In The Air @mindymckinleyromance
Nine years ago, Clara Chase shared a kiss with her brother Cam's best friend, James Lagos, but he ghosted her the following week when he moved to Dallas to start a new job. Even though she moved on with her life, graduating from college and becoming a successful model and influencer, Clara has not forgiven or forgotten James's behavior, so she's not exactly pleased to welcome him back to Chicago when Cam hires him to help launch their family company's new helicopter division. Even worse, Clara is also starting a new job with SkyChase as director of the company's charitable foundation, and a shortage of office space means that she and James are forced to share. With the two of them in such close proximity, can Clara keep from falling for James all over again?
I've been looking forward to James and Clara's story ever since we met them in the first book of the series, and it did not disappoint. They had fantastic chemistry from the start and it only got better as they got to know each other again. In addition, I liked seeing Clara find her place at SkyChase as she built the foundation from the ground up. She seemed so much happier and more confident by the end of the story, and while some of that was due to her relationship with James, it was also because she found fulfillment in her work.
I enjoyed the first book of this series, but I think this was one even better! I highly recommend "Lifting Off" for all contemporary romance fans and look forward to Clara's brother Carter's story next.

Full disclosure - I have been excited about this book since I had the opportunity to beta read it. James and Clara are abodorable! And also pretty kindle melting… **fans self** Thrust back in to each or’s life after a ten year gap - oh the pining! - their animosity masks their burning passions and their falling in to bed together is amazing! Not to mention they both are going through their own changes and growth so that when they are together they are both so much stronger - sometimes I do want less bananas and actual human emotions… And Mindy always delivers!
This book was another really wonderful story to add to the Chase family. The chemistry between Clara and James is off the charts and is everything you love about good brother’s best friend story!
‘She felt like forever—a slow steady burn that warmed his entire soul.’
They’re sweet and steamy and so much more. Definitely looking forward to the next one!
The unfolding relationship between Cara Chase and pilot James, in Lifting Off, this fab Chase Family sequel from Mindy McKinley, was wonderful to watch. Mindy creates the right kind of tension in her main characters that keep you turning the page. Another highly addictive romance from McKinley.
