How to Better Engage and Share the Gospel with Muslims
Muslims are coming to Christ more than ever before, which is why having a robust, Christ-centered foundation for evangelism is essential. However, many Christians know very little about Muslims and their beliefs, which often results in misconceptions and a decreased ability to clearly and effectively proclaim the gospel.
In Reaching Your Muslim Neighbor with the Gospel, A. S. Ibrahim seeks to provide readers with insight and practical tips to engage and share the gospel with Muslim friends and neighbors. Ibrahim divides the book into two sections: (1) a Christian understanding of the strands of Islam and the diversity of Muslims, and (2) practical ways for Christians to connect with Muslims and effectively communicate the gospel. This book also incorporates true stories about Muslims coming to Christ and answers common questions.
Ideal for Christians Interested in Cross-Cultural Missions: Especially those interested in evangelizing to Muslims or wanting to learn more about the Muslim community Perfect for Group or Personal Study: Each chapter ends with practical information about Islam and Muslims and questions to prompt discussion Practical Guidance: Includes true stories, answers to common questions, proper responses to Muslim questions, and common pitfalls to avoid during evangelism
Not much wasted space here… a great combination of practical insights and story telling. This is a fantastic elementary guide that briefly covers cultural and theological aspects of Islam. I appreciate his evangelism strategy on preaching Christ as opposed to focusing on apologetics and the weaknesses of Islam so that “in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” (1 pet. 3:15). Let us labor with you in the bountiful harvest, O Lord!
The most informative and culturally insightful book on interacting with Muslims that I’ve read! It is filled with real like interactions, thoughtful questions, and cultural boundaries that I have found helpful in my friendships. It’s also an easy read! My love for Muslim people has only increased by understanding more about their hearts.
A great read for anyone like me who is new to evangelizing Muslims. Practical tips, next steps, and encouraging stories. Made so many highlights and plan to reread.
Personally, I found this extremely helpful and informative. 100% recommend. Looking to read further on Islam in South East Asia - if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know :)
Dr. Ibrahim is one of the kindest, gentlest men you could ever want to meet. I have the pleasure of lunching with him just as this book was releasing; it was fresh on his mind. I ordered my book immediately and just got around to it a few months later.
Four things that are worth noting:
First, there is an inherent positivity in this book. Repeatedly the reader is encouraged to share the Gospel with Muslims. Most (I assume) are intimidated by Islam. Muslims are left ignored. The Gospel remains unproclaimed by people who are fearful and (dare we say it?) unmoved by the lostness of Muslims.
Second, the succinct description of Islamic faith, the Quran, and Mohammed will help the reader uninitiated in Muslim culture. The information is on a lay level and attainable. It is presented fairly towards Islam - there are no straw man punching bags here.
Third, Dr. Ibrahim’s emphasis on intercessory prayer is challenging, refreshing, and needed. What he says is not only applicable to Islam; all believers need to read this.
Finally, the shining star of this book is his chapter on how God changed his heart to love Muslims. Growing up as a Christian in Egypt, Ibrahim suffered real persecution. Yet, God did a work of Grace in him to give him a heart of compassion and love. Reading that chapter deeply convicted me.
I think this book would be beneficial to all believers. Well-written, easy read.
Incredibly practical read to help cultivate conversation on ways to share the Gospel with our muslim neighbors and friends. I appreciated the authors clear advice and personal stories of evangelism during his years living in Egypt and the U.S. My biggest take-aways were: the importance of knowing culture when sharing the gospel, always better to point muslims to Bible for truth instead of criticizing and pointing out fault in Quran, and intercessory prayer is life changing. Must read for anyone desiring to grow in day to day confidence and wisdom with spiritual conversations with muslim background neighbors and friends.
I thought it would be more academic, but it was clear, accesible, to the point, and motivating for the everyday Christian. Much of the book is helpful for navigating any evangelistic relationships, not just with Muslims.
A super easy and encouraging read that emphasizes the importance of magnifying Christ in our interactions with Islam and Muslims. Makes me really excited for the summer :)
Common sense evangelism combined with an introduction to understanding a Muslim perspective on Christianity, Jesus and religion.
Author, A. S. Ibrahim, grew up in a Muslim neighborhood in Egypt, went to school with Muslim kids, he and his Christian family were basically surrounded by the Muslim world, culture and religion. This is a people he knows and loves well.
The book is divided into two parts. Part 1 is devoted to understanding Muslims and their culture and Part 2 is focused on how to evangelize to them. After learning about the Muslim culture and religion, the rest is really common sense and practicing what I learned as “Friendship Evangelism”. Ask questions, listen actively get to know and care about the person, be involved in their life and introduce them to Christ not only thru the Bible but also by your life; don’t challenge, threaten or be combative.
All things considered, a good beginning to “Reaching Your Muslim Neighbor with the Gospel”📚
(1) focus on scripture. qur’an is not Gods word, use it only as a necessary bridge to the Bible. positively share the truth of the Word instead of focusing on negatively critiquing Islamic beliefs (2) focus on intercessory prayer. use of ordinary means instead of overemphasis or prioritization of new, fancies methodologies (3) discussion of diversity among muslims. no two muslims are the same, do not assume homogeneity but listen and learn (4) balanced view of dreams and visions. dreams do not save, jesus saves and he uses dreams to lead muslims to one who is proclaiming the gospel
So helpful and encouraging! Christ is magnified throughout. This book continually reminds the believer of the hope, victory, and power of Christ and God’s heart for Muslims to turn and see and know Christ as Lord and Savior. A. S. Ibrahim’s writing overflows with his love for God and his Muslim neighbors and has so many encouraging and practical examples/stories. One thing to know is that this is not a book designed to unpack everything about Islam, but rather the important things needed to understand how we should evangelize. It leaves me full of hope and expectation for God’s work in the hearts of Muslims through the Holy Spirit and the obedience of humble servants!
Wow! I LOVED this book. I'd encourage any believer from a western context to read this book. It was educational and informative about Islam, but also practical and equipping for relationship with Muslims. I'll be returning to this book as I continue to pursue friendship with Muslims and practice evangelizing boldy and lovingly.
This is not only outstanding, but it's also a game-changer for evangelism and cross-cultural understanding.
I found it to be incredibly insightful and one of the most important books on evangelism that I have ever read.
The author, A.S. Ibrahim, does a fantastic job of providing practical advice and tactics for reaching out to our Muslim neighbors in a respectful and loving way. It's truly inspiring to see how we can connect with people from different backgrounds and share the love of Jesus with them.
I especially appreciate the author's emphasis on interacting with others in a calm and Jesus-like manner. It's a reminder that we should always approach others with love and respect, regardless of our differences.
One of the biggest takeaways of this book is how Muslim people believe in monotheistic religion and very much don't like polytheism. A majority of Muslim people think that Christianity is polytheism due to the "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit", but this is incorrect as we Christians only believe in one true God as well. Explaining this to them can really open them up to the values of Christianity. This book was amazing.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in evangelism and connecting with our Muslim neighbors.
It's a truly special book filled with love and practical advice that can help us make a real difference in our communities.
An excellent concise book for better understanding Islam for both evangelism and missions. the author was born and raised in Egypt and is a native Arabic speaker who knows about Islam and living in an Islamic country. the book is filled with various personal stories to help equip believers to witness to Muslims.
Ibrahim gives a Socratic method approach of asking questions and reading sections of Scripture to challenge the beliefs of Muslims when doing evangelism. He mentions several of the cultural differences and challenges and that there are different types of Muslims so Christians should be careful not to overgeneralize Islam and Muslims as all having the same beliefs.
I appreciated the emphasis on intercessory prayer for evangelism and the author's constant reminder that it is God who must convert sinners, not our arguments. He provides a helpful overview of many common assumptions Muslims have about Christianity such as that the Bible is corrupted or that Christians believe in three gods. I highly recommend this book to Christians interested in understanding Islam, apologetics, and missions since it presents a well-balanced approach and a sincere desire to share the gospel with Muslims to present them with the true gospel and the true Christ of Scripture.
As someone living in a Central Asian Muslim dominant culture I really appreciated this book. It has a wonderful blend of evangelism 101 with knowledge of how to share the good news with Muslims. Really appreciated the initial chapter where Ibrahim explains there are really different Islams and being aware of that before you talk with different people is helpful. Also loved the clarity and refutation at the end against Insider Movements. Would really recommend this book as the world seems to continue getting smaller and the chances of interacting with Muslims (no matter where you live) increases.
I disagree with the premise of this book. I read it because my church group recommended it, but every issue I feared was very present. I was hoping it was just a book on customs of Muslim households so I can share my gospel in a respectful manner, what I found was a book teaching how to attack the Muslim faith's weaknesses and prove the bible is better. While this may be some people's approach to sharing the gospel, I believe it directly contradicts biblical foundational wisdoms by preparing a testimony and not letting God speak through your testimony.
I highly recommend that every Christian read this book. It doesn’t matter where you live, you will eventually be around a Muslim who needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Ibrahim’s book is filled with excellent advice that demonstrates Christ’s love and compassion with conviction that the only method that can save anyone (including your Muslim neighbor) is the proclamation of the Gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit.
“Your goal is to proclaim the gospel’s good news, not to defeat Islam.”
Are you a Christian with Muslim friends and neighbors? Or perhaps you would like to build relationships with Muslims but feel too intimidated? This is a supremely helpful book to equip you to share the gospel boldly and prayerfully.
This book was great, content wise. But what really made me love it is the author’s obvious love for Muslims and his desire to see them come to Christ. It was a very loving take on evangelism, focused on seeing people as Christ sees them, and pointing them to the beauty and love of Christ, rather than roping them into debates and arguments.
Exceptional book. Written from a place of passion and love for bringing Muslims to a saving faith in Christ and from a lot of personal history and experience with Muslims. Solid Biblical teaching and tons of great practical advice.
A great book for all Christian’s to read when it comes to evangelizing to Muslims and presenting them the Gospel. The author makes it easy to understand Islam and how we can approach conversations with Muslims. I recommend this book to all believers who want to evangelize to Muslims!
An awesome resource that I will definitely revisit when questions arise. Can be a bit repetitive but you never once doubt Ibrahim’s knowledge or experiences which really helps you respect him and the book you are reading.
I would probably recommend "Muslims, Christians, and Jesus" by Carl Medearis over this book, BUT there were definitely helpful things in this one that Medearis didn't focus on (and much of the same themes as well!).
Excellent book. Written using experiences from growing up in a Muslim country, with a lot of interactive conversations. Very practical and easily read. Insightful. ✔️.
This is a well balanced book on Muslim evangelism. A good amount of teaching, true examples, cultural information and warnings make this book helpful and easy to digest.
