Hedda

Rate this book
In Lucy Kirkwood's version of Hedda Gabler, Ibsen's nineteenth-century heroine is relocated to present-day London, to startling effect.

Hedda, still mourning for the father she adored, returns from honeymoon with a husband she doesn't love, to a flat and a pregnancy she doesn't want. Trapped by her past and terrified of her future, bored by her life but too cowardly to walk away from it, she finds herself caught between three men. And in the end, something has to give

Trying to bulk read some Hedda Gabler translations. Lucy Kirkwood writes dialogue in a way that really works for me - but her naturalism becomes a bit fluffy and I don’t think it’s necessarily explained within the genre she’s set up??? Still fantastic stuff

“HEDDA: Eli. Whatever you do. Will you do it beautifully?
ELI: Beautifully?
HEDDA: We always said. It should be beautiful. We always said."

actually one of the craziest fucking plays i've ever read. choosing not to read into the scene my professor assigned from it for class.

This was really intense personally it wasn't 100% my cup of tea because it was just a little over the top and Hedda annoyed me a lot however I loved George he was my fave! Overall a pretty decent play though and read quickly!
