Llewellyn George started his publishing company in Portland, Oregon in 1901, concentrating Astrological books and annuals. In 1961, Carl L. Weschcke of St. Paul, Minnesota purchased the company and relocated it to the Midwest.
Llewellyn is the world’s oldest and largest independent publisher of books for body, mind, and spirit.
A comprehensive astrological almanac in a planner format. It contains an excellent introduction to astrological terminology and concepts including the planets, signs, houses, aspects, transits and lunar influences. Concise and handy reference charts for eclipses, lunar events and planetary phenomena are also included. Year ahead and weekly forecasts are given, before the weekly information is presented with ample room for notes. It also gives Opportunity Periods provided by Jim Shawvan. Detailed ephemeris tables are also provided. It’s spiral bound for easy access.
As a lark I compared this with Llewelyn’s other offerings including their Astrological Pocket Planner, Witches’ Datebook and Spell A Day Almanac. This is definitely the best offering for those interested in astrology followed closely by the pocket planner, which would be useful for those who just want a quick reference without the detailed aspects, the Opportunity Periods and bigger planner format. The pocket planner does give the best days for fishing and planting, which is missing in this one. The datebook and almanac give the basic astrological data as can be expected for their more specialized audience.
I highly recommend and will likely make this an annual reference.
The intro to this book is amazing if you are unfamiliar with astrology. The various planets in your chart are explained quite well. I don’t know if the information is repeated year to year as this is the first one I’ve read. It would make a lovely planner if you buy this. If you rent it from the library (as I did) you may get some decent information from the introduction of this small book.
