It’s no secret that on the spiritual battlefield of colleges and universities, countless church-raised students walk away from their childhood faith before graduation. How can Christian students prepare for―and survive―the worldview battle in real classrooms? That’s what Patricia Engler wanted to find out. After studying science as a Christian student at secular university, she backpacked around the world interviewing other Christian students. Those conversations revealed that while the problems students face often vary, the solutions they need are largely the same. How can students apply those solutions to thrive as Christ-followers in university―and beyond?
A field-tested survival guide, Prepare to Thrive • Vital facts that reveal the alarming realities of much of modern education. • Biblical strategies to build and maintain an uncompromised Christian worldview at university – and apply that worldview to impact culture. • Practical tips to navigate the trenches of colleges and universities, including tools to think through faith-challenging messages, handle worldview questions, and resist “brainwashing.”
Whether you’re a current or future student, parent, pastor, mentor, or any other Christian engaging with the culture, this book is for you. It’s more than possible for students to enter the battlefield of modern education and emerge not only a Christian―but a stronger one. Let’s find out how.
It was AMAZING!!! This book will literally PREPARE YOU TO THRIVE!!!!!! It prepares Christian students to enter secular universities and come out stronger by resisting the indoctrination taught there. It also gives you other tips on how to thrive in a secular university by your relationship with God and other people. Even if you’re not going to a secular university I’d highly recommend this book because it applies to a secular culture as well. Or even if you’re an adult, you could help your kids or (if you don’t have kids) it would benefit you and possibly any high school graduate you meet who is about to enter university. This author has herself gone to a secular university and came out stronger, and she has also interviewed many Christian students who survived secular universities and came out stronger. A MUST READ!!!
This was an encouraging read. I read it as prep as I go back to school this fall after 5 years away. The author gave many practical helpful tools, and strategies, there were times where it was deep/challenging and harder to grasp the processes. The back has a great summary of tools. I would recommend for any Christian heading to university. The book was definitely geared towards those studying science or with heavy evolution content.
4.5 stars This is a good resource for those who are parenting teens, or for teens who are preparing for college. It reminds us that we need to have a solid foundation in the Word of God, a continual connection to His Church to keep our faith strong, and this book provides helpful tips and advice for getting through college with a strong Christian faith, even when studying a field that directly attacks Christianity.
