Adventures in Inventory

From author Melissa Brown comes a prequel to her brand new 90's nostalgia, new adult romance series, Spotlight Video.

The year is 1994 and the employees of Spotlight Video are in for a very long night. It’s time for their annual (and mandatory) overnight Inventory. Armed with pizza, insane amounts of caffeine, and a pillowcase filled with movies chosen by each employee, Ben, Heather and the rest of the crew are ready to tackle the night with a little game they created years ago--a game that makes a monotonous night a little more interesting.

It’s time for VHS Roulette…are you ready to play?

"Adventures in Inventory" by Melissa Brown is a prequel novella to the Spotlight Video series. It's 1994 and the employees of Spotlight Video, most of whom are also students at nearby Lurie University for the Performing Arts, have gathered for the store's mandatory annual overnight inventory shift. It's tradition for each employee to choose a movie for a game they fondly call VHS Roulette, which inevitably leads to differences of opinion. The movie selections won't be the only drama this year, however. Will all of the employees still have jobs in the morning?

It's not necessary to read this novella in order to understand the series, but it is a fun, quick (and free!) read that I'd recommend picking up. It gives a good feel for the retro vibe of the series and the kind of sweet, quirky characters involved. If, like me, you grew up in the '90s and fondly remember trips to the local video store, you'll enjoy this series!

Remember the old days of VHS and DVD rentals? Just the fact that they’re doing inventory in a video store brings back so many memories. My husband worked in a family run video store and he had crazy stories. We get to meet the odd bunch of Spotlight Video while they do inventory. Can’t wait to see what’s in store.
