To the outside world, Heath Bailey has it all – looks, wealth, women – the good life. But appearances can be deceiving. All he’s ever wanted was a wife, two-point-four children, and the house with a white picket fence. The “dream”. But that dream dies with the demise of his marriage.

All Danica Bailey wants is for her father to leave her be, to forget she exists. Her father, on the other hand, knows she’s a sure thing when he’s in trouble, and she's the first person he turns to. But when he causes her to lose her job, Danica has a huge problem on her hands.

Heath devises a plan that will solve both their problems – for Danica to have his baby.

In his mind, surrogacy is the perfect answer. What could possibly go wrong? Right?

Sassy Surrogate
Written by: Dorothy Ewels

Sassy Surrogate is a quick read that packs a lot of story into this book.

Heath Bailey has issues when it comes to women. It seems the ones he has loved the most (his mother and his Ex-wife) have had a lot to do with his trust issues when it comes to relationships. He’s handsome and wealthy but he has a secret, he wants a family, a wife, children and the white picket fence, it’s that trust issue that has him thinking maybe he should just find a surrogate to help with the “family” part.

Danica Brand is best-friends with his assistant Rebecca; she also just lost her job. She’s beautiful and looks like she would make a great mother and she’s in need of a job. When Heath makes her an offer she can’t pass up, she agrees. But it’s not going to be as easy road for them.

From a threat to Danaica and her mother to a move back to the US, everything is set for Heath and Danica to begin their journey towards the family he’s always wanted.

With lots to cover, Author Dorothy Ewels gives readers a read that follows the high and the low points of Heath and Danica’s journey. The story moved well and time lapse was part and parcel of the writing because it takes time to make babies and then have them. The story was sweet though, two people who came together in hopes of making a family.

This is the first book I've read by the author and I'm not sure if I liked the way this story is written. It's really weird. It took about 60% to get to the surrogate plan and I thought that was the whole story. I mean, that's why I wanted to read this book. Then when we get to that part it was only a few chapters, even then there was a lot of jumps too. So we don't really get to experience it and I can truly say I feel disconnected from the story. It felt like I was looking from the outside of the window rather than feeling like I'm in the story. It could've been better if the story and the surrogate plot are developed even more.

Danica’s life has just been turned upside down due to her no-good father. Jobless and with a debt hanging over her head, the future does not look promising. Heath thought he had it all, the perfect wife, and the perfect life with the perfect business. But when his wife wanted different things to what they agreed to, the marriage failed, and Felicity seemed hell-bent on taking him to the cleaners until her life took a different turn. When his assistant meets up with her best friend Danica, Heath overhears a conversation that sets his plan in motion. But will the sexy Danica agree to what he wants? Will she be the surrogate for the child he so desperately wants? And Can Danica be the woman who can walk away once the deal has been completed? Can Heath come to terms with his own personal doubts that were inflicted on him as a child? Ms Ewels built this story, giving us a strong female protagonist who you instantly like. Heath is a conflicted man, while he has a successful business; he is carrying scars from his childhood. The chemistry is a slow build, tantalizing until it explodes. And just when you think they will get their happy ever after, the trouble from the past rears its ugly head. This story is jammed packed and at times I wanted a little bit more and felt there were a few loose ends, but I think the author has done this on purpose for when we get the secondary characters' story. I listened to this on Audio and enjoyed every moment.

This was a little different read in that the man wants a baby and gets Danica to be his surrogate. That was refreshing. The chemistry between Heath and Danica is there and I could see it from the first time they speak. There are some obstacles and dangers in the way before he realizes he loves her but I was confused a little by the timelines.

When I saw the blurb of this book, I knew that I needed to read it.
Well, after deciding it, I started to wonder if it had been a wise decision because I didn't know this author.
I hadn't read any book from her but let me tell you... I'm addicted.
Dorothy Ewels was able to get my attention with just one book and I'll be wanting more from her.
Her writing is that appealing.
Sassy Surrogate is her latest release and explores the lives of Heath and Danica.
Guys, this book is part of the Cocky Hero Club and you must check all those books.
Heath has it all, he's hot as hell, richer than Midas, and has all the women at his beck and call. For some, that's enough right? But to him, it's not. He wants the dream, the family, kids but when his marriage ends...
Danica just wants to be left alone. Her father uses and abused her, and she just wants him to forget about her. When she lost her job because of her father, she needed to find a solution asap...
And in comes Heath.
This book was not what expected. It was good.
Great plot, well written, super engaging, and intense.
It was great to see the main characters together. They worked perfectly with each other.
It was a great story that melted my heart.
How can someone be so insecure?
How can you overcome the fear of abandonment?
It's not an easy task, but love will help you conquer it all.
Not only did this book had love, loyalty, desire, but it also had suspense and darkness.
Guys, the hot stuff... Oh boy.
Overall it was a great book and I can't wait to read another book from this author.
What a premier this was to me Dorothy. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

The timeline is a bit odd, but it works considering the circumstances. There’s a few things that the author leaves to one imagination. Heath has been wanting a child of his own for the longest time. For him to achieve his dreams he asks Danica who just so happens to be his assistant’s best friend to be his surrogate. Unbeknownst to him he never thought he could fall in love, let alone have a loving relationship. He finds that with Danica. She knew going in that she could very well fall in love with Heath. She didn’t have a lot of choice in accepting his proposal. There is a HEA.

This quick to read story was attention grabbing. A great mix of suspense, turmoil and romance made for an intriguing storyline. Danica and Heath both have parental issues and the surrogate agreement seems to be just what they both need. Little do they know, there's so much more involved than either of them planned on. I loved the cameo appearance of Graham, Chance and Soraya. A great addition to the Cocky Hero Club world.

Danica needs a job. Heath wants a baby. So it seems when he approaches her with a proposition that gets them both what they want, it should be smooth sailing. They'll have avoid developing feelings, avoid getting too close. Of course, we all know that rarely do things like this work the way they're planned, and things are soon looking decidedly different than either of them had ever imagined. But Heath has host of issues thanks to the women in his life who were supposed to love him most, and he'll have to put his heart on the line with the woman he's fallen for, even if it wasn't something he ever planned.

Heath and Danica have so much chemistry, it was obvious where this was heading from their first meeting. About the only reason I knocked a star off is because the timeline was a bit off during the epilogues, jumping from past to present in a very confusing way. I had to read more than once to figure out exactly what was going on. Aside from that, though, I liked everything else. It's sweet, it's a little steamy, and Danica and Heath are both sweethearts - definitely a worthy addition to the Cocky Hero Club.

Sassy Surrogate is a sweet and light read that’s perfect when you’re not looking for anything too involved.

When the story begins, we find Heath at a low point in his life. He’s recently divorced, and he feels as though his lifelong dream of becoming a father is now out of reach. Danica’s life isn’t going all too great either at the start, and it’s mostly thanks to her unpleasant father. She’s found herself jobless and seriously needing quite a bit of money, and she’s not sure how she’s going to come up with the cash. As luck would have it, Heath’s got the perfect solution to both their problems in that he’d like to hire Danica to give him the child he so badly wants.

What pulled me into the story was the notion that the hero of the story is desperately desiring a family of his own. I liked Heath’s vulnerability. I feel like male characters are always made out to solely be portrayed as some macho alpha, but not all (or even most) men are actually like that. It’s refreshing to see a male character displaying such uncertainty, and I enjoyed it.

However, there are a couple things that just didn’t work for me. First of all, there was a lot of lead up to Heath and Danica actually coming together to decide she’d be his surrogate. Then when that moment finally happened, the whole story began to feel very rushed. We went from veritable strangers to BOOM! We’re making babies! That disconnect felt off for me. However, I do understand that for the sake of the story being on the lighter side that too much angst wouldn’t have worked either.

Another bit that was a miss for me was the fact that there was a third party joining in the narration of the book a couple times. I don’t have an issue with multiple narrators perse, but this inclusion felt forced and unneeded. I suppose I just feel that because this book had a lot of material it needed to cover in not too many pages, it took away the opportunity for the main characters and their relationship to be developed further in parts where I wish they had been.

This light read is a good choice for when you’re in the mood for a hero that’s unlike a lot of other similar characters in romances. It’s a quick read that’ll give you your happily ever after.

This is an ARC review.

I enjoyed the idea of this story a single man giving up on finding love but still wanting a child of his own. It was a good read.

Heath is finalizing his divorce and when he gets some news he hadn't expected and it makes him look further into himself. He knows now more than ever that he wants a child.

Danica has lost her job thanks to her deadbeat dad and it turns out that isn't all he may cost her.

When Danica tells her best friend (who also happens to be Heath's assistant) what's going on and he overhears he decides he wants to help and he thinks of a way where he can get what he wants too.

When Danica falls pregnant he is both excited and terrified and with one look at her he realizes he is in love with her. But as his usual reaction to feelings is to run he hurts Danica and she plans to leave until she can hand over his child.

Before she gets a chance he lays it all out for her and they finally admit the truth.

It turns out her father's sins will come back to haunt them though. When she's attacked will she and the baby survive or will Heath lose it all again.

Happy Reading.

Sassy Surrogate By Dorothy Ewels . Another awesome addition to what has become one of my absolute favorite series . From the moment I sat down and started reading Danica and Heaths story I so quickly found myself becoming more and more invested . It’s a story so full of emotion, heartbreak, love , joy , happiness , second chances , intrigue, Angst and many surprises you will not see coming . When we first meet Health it seems as if he is living the perfect life , it Appears that he has everything he could ever want but sometimes appearances can be deceiving. All Heath has ever truly wanted is a wife and a family of his own , but all that changes when his wife walks out on him . In comes Danika - dealing with my issues of her own , one of those being a dead beat dad - a father who only ever comes to her when he’s in trouble , even if his actions may cost her the job she needs so badly . Certain things happen( of Which I’m not going to disclose as I don’t want to ruin anything. (And Heath approaches Danica with a proposition) one that will change their lives forever . This was such a fun and sexy read .

Another great Cocky Hero Club read. Ms. Ewels is new to me and I very much enjoyed Sassy Surrogate. It was a quick fun read with lots of “sassiness” which is something I love. The author gave us strong characters in a great storyline. Heath is going through a divorce, something that was never in his life’s plan. All he ever wanted was a good job, which he has, become wealthy, which he’s also done, and come home to the white picket fence including a wife and kids. But since life threw him a curve ball he’s decided to punt, turning to Danica, his assistant’s best friend. Danica is a strong woman with a sassy attitude (which I loved). When her deadbeat Dad makes a scene at her work, she is afraid of losing her job (which she needs badly). So Heath comes up with a plan to help both of them: pay her to be his surrogate and have his child. Well nothing can go wrong with this plan, right? Especially when feelings get involved (and not just the two of them’s feelings).

This is a great read that I recommend grabbing up.

DNF sorry, couldn't do it
Reviews are scattered or this one. I may end up just skimming. I'm on the fence because I want to know WHY the author would give both MCs the same last name.
Guess what? As usual an author didn't proofread. The FMC last name is BRAND. The blurb at the beginning of tge book is the same as for here. WHY DO AUTHORS REFUSE TO PROOFREAD???????? Are yall just THAT arrogant?

The first scene has a grown man, a lawyer, mocking a woman but then proceeding to take her side against his client, who deserved to have full disclosure.
“You knew, and you never said a word? You left me to be blindsided by this? What kind of a friend does that, Noah?” I can feel the heat rise in my face as anger floods my veins.
“Dude, come on. That’s not fair. This is not my story to share.”
Noah literally was making fun of her moments before the call AND he's Heaths lawyer, not the ex's

"Who knows, maybe she was right, because I can’t help feeling like Felicia’s abandoning me too. Illogical or not, it’s how I feel."
Pretty sure Heath did tge divorcing first.

4 Star Review Sassy Surrogate by Dorothy Ewels
One of the things I have enjoyed about the Cocky Hero Club series is all the new authors that I have discovered such as Dorothy Ewels.
All Heath Bailey wants is a wife and family bit it seems that is not meant to be after his marriage dissolves. However fate has other plans for him when he and Danica Bailey (his assistant Rebecca’s best friend) cross paths. Asking Danica to act as a surrogate so he can become a father seems a little extreme but circumstances brought these two together.
Although not a long book Ms. Ewels certainly packed a lot into it. The trust issues that Heath has, has clouded his judgment but he knows Danica needs a job (and he wants to help her) so this is a win/win for both of them.
Complications soon arise as feelings become involved. Will Heath and Danica finally speak their truths and in doing so find the happiness and family that they both crave?
One click and find out.

I really enjoyed Sassy Surrogate, and this was my first read from new to me author Dorothy Ewels. I really liked Danica and Heath. They both have issues where parents are concerned, at least they both had one loving parent, but it has effected them both. Heath has some major trust issues where women are concerned, and Danica just keeps getting hurt and has finally had enough. Heath happens to overhear a conversation between Danica and Rebecca who just so happens to be Heath's executive assistant. He come up with a plan that will help both Danica and himself if Danica agrees to his plan. What Heath fails to factor into his plans are the possible development of feelings....will Danica agree to Heath's crazy plan, and does she really have any other choice but to say yes...and will Heath trust that maybe there are women out there that will love you flaws and all?? You'll just have to read this awesome book to find out what happens!!

Heath is struggling to figure out his life after its latest upheaval. Consumed with the idea of a baby, he propositions his assistant's best friend to be his surrogate, intending the transaction to be purely business. Yet, as time passes, he begins to wonder if love and a family would be too much of a package deal.

Danica is also struggling, having lost her job and finding out her dad's actions have done more harm than she ever imagined. When propositioned by Heath, she's not sure if to be excited or scared, as she's always found him attractive.

This is a quick read, but a full one, nonetheless. I liked the way the author told the story. She kept me interested and turning the pages eagerly. I still have some unanswered questions, as I feel some parts were completely glossed over or forgotten, but overall I found it to be a likeable read.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

There is so much to love about this story! And it definitely made me emotional which to me is a sign of a great story! Danica is a young woman who hasn’t had the greatest upbringing, especially with her Father. When one day he yet again destroys her happiness, she doesn’t know what to do. Then Heath enters the picture and she is instantly enamored with him. But she’s not in a place right for any type of relationship, and actually neither is Heath. But will things that happen in their life change their feelings?

I loved the interactions between Danica and Heath. You could feel the lust and tension between them, and I hoped these two would work it out and be together. So when Heath decides to take a different route with Danica, I was intrigued and curious to see how it would turn out. I found this to be a delightful story that had me never wanting it to end. I definitely recommend this story! You will love it just as much as I did!

Heath is a successful businessman but the same can’t be said for his personal life as a failed marriage has put his dreams for a family on hold. From the moment that he meets Danica he is drawn to her in a way he never expected so when he finds out about her financial position, he suggests a mutually beneficial arrangement where he will get the baby he wants and she will get the funds she needs.

Due to her estranged father not only has Danica lost her job but in order to protect her family she needs to pay his debt. Unsure of what to do Heath’s offer couldn’t have come at a better time but will the escalating emotions between them bring them closer or tear them apart?

Both Heath and Danica have pasts to overcome but despite the way they began it was apparent they were meant to be a family and not an arrangement.

Heath has everything he wants to expect the one thing he desires to have a baby. Someone to love and mold. He knows it may not be normal but for him, he thought he would have children by now. When he runs interference for Danica something changes. He feels very protective of her and will make sure she is okay. Danica is over her father and just wishes he would go away from her. When he gets into trouble and comes for her things are about to get drastic. Now she has to figure out how to save her mom and deal with her dad and let's not forget that Heath has pushed his way into her life and she has no idea how to feel about that. He has a solution to both of their problems if Danica will become his surrogate. Seems easy enough right? Well yeah, something always goes wrong. Can these two really help each other and move on after the baby is born?

This is the great addition to this amazing series and is Heath and Danica’s journey. Heath at first appearances seems to have it all, but his dream is shattered when his wife leaves, and all he wants is a wife and family of his own. Danica has her own problems with her father, as whenever he is in trouble he comes to her for help, even to the extend she loses her job. Heath overhears his assistant, who is best friends with Danica, and comes up with a solution to both of their problems. This is a sweet, quick read, which is filled with emotions, family, trust, secrets, and love, which leads to an entertaining page turner. The only downside in my opinion only, is that this story seems a tad rushed in parts, but I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Heath seems to have the perfect life from the outside looking in, but what people don't see is how much he wants a wife & family but trust is a factor. Danica wants her father to quit messing with her life, and if he would leave her completely alone, she wouldn't be upset. Heath learns about Danica's issues so he steps up to the plate to help her out, and help himself out as well. I did enjoy the fact that the hero wants the family more than the heroine because we don't see much of that at all. Of course he's drawn to her & vice versa so what does he do?! He runs because he's a flight risk, and it just may cost him everything! To see what I'm talking about, you'll have to hit those one click buttons as I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Emotionally unavailable

Heath is an emotionally unavailable man, he's been hurt too many times in his life. Danica is a woman who has a father that is into gambling and has endangered his family to pay off his huge debts.
Heath wants children, but not the wife, so he approaches Danica with a deal she can't turn down to carry his child. She decides to say yes after goons beat up her mother to send a message to her father about the large sum of money he owes.
I love that the man who though he didn't deserve love or didn't think he could feel love for another person actually falls in love with the woman he asked to clinically carry his child.
I also loved how we got to not only see Graham and Soraya, but also Chance and Pixy in one book.

This was not my favorite story from this world, and I think that may have just been how the story was presented. Instead of just telling the story in a linear format, it starts with "3 years ago" then goes to "18 months ago" and so on, instead of just starting the 3 years ago as present day and hopping forward. It just threw me off. And possibly because of the way it jumped time, we didn't really get to see these two fall in love. I'd have loved to have seen more of them making the move and going through the process to get pregnant, it would have added so much more to their story. But it was nice to see Graham and who I believe was Chance later on (though there was no accent given to him in the audiobook, so not quite sure) as it's always nice to see the OGs make an appearance.

this was my first book from this author so i made sure to not go in with any expectations.

i’ve never read a story with this plot line before and i really liked how dorothy handled and wrote the story. i genuinely enjoyed it more than i thought i would.

it was a cute, sweet read with a bit of 🌶. the chemistry between danica and heath was 😈.

the only reason why i gave it 3 stars was because, the story seemed to be a bit rushed. the timeline was really confusing but it all worked out in the end.

all in all, i would definitely read more books from this author! 💘

All our dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them...

Danica was propositioned with an offer she could not refuse, and it could not come at a better time. Danica lost her job and her father was an albatross around her neck. He was always in trouble and came to her constantly for financial help.

Heath approaches Danica with a proposal that would benefit them both. Their story is heartfelt and passionate. Dorothy Ewels is new to me and I look forward to reading more of her stories.

I loved this enthralling book by Dorothy who was a new author to me. Danica and Heath have a wonderful chemistry but both have had troublesome issues with a parent. Heath has a proposition for Danica that can solve her problems but with him so charming, it seems he is too good to be true. I enjoyed reading this lovely book which was a quick and delightful story m. This book is part of The Cocky Hero Club but can be read as a standalone. I received this book as an arc for my honest opinion.

Heath is a recently single man who has dreamed of having a baby. Not wanting to be burned again by a woman he decides to use a surrogate to fulfill his dream. That woman is Danica and she is in need of money to keep her family safe from a loan shark.
Sassy surrogate skips over important parts In this arrangement and moves quickly. I really liked the characters and thought it’s a sweet story. I enjoyed it and believe many others will too

This got over a little too fast... There should have been more focus on Heath & Danica.. I wanted more scenes during the time Danica was pregnant.. I wanted to see Heath care over her.. N even the scene in the hospital, I wanted to see those moments when she finally woke up from surgery.. These were big jumps.. But overall, a good book..

I loved the concept of a surrogate love story a lot and also the first half of the book, but towards the last half I thought it was a bit rushed, which I skimmed.
Story wise we don’t get any real details on their journey through Danicas pregnancy as well as their relationship.
I also wanted to know more about Heaths ex wife but I guess she had her sad outcome.
