This book was published in 1944. My Dad gave it to me years ago and I finally read it. If you have an interest in WW II and can find a copy, this is an interesting read. Written by a journalist who joined the Navy as a Lieutenant after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served on the Flag ship, The Augusta.

The story begins in London as rigorous training was taking place to prepare the soldiers for D Day. He describes England as soldiers from many countries descended on their country for this training. And then shares the many planning sessions for the Normandy attack (with each countries high ranking Naval officers), the long wait on ships for the green light to set sail, the excitement and apprehension of this momentous time in history.

If you are interested in WW II esp. D Day (and can locate a copy), Mr. Brown's writing from within the close encounters with these very high level Officers is enlightening. Try to locate a copy
