When Cody’s plane touches down at Reagan International, he’s a burnt-out case, worn to the bone after a brutal mission into Russia. A runaway high-speed train loaded with stolen nukes and killer commandos came close to ending the life of a man called Suicide—who only accepts missions no one is expected to survive. But all Cody wants now is some well-earned R&R with Sara Durrell, his CIA control officer and lover.
Trouble is, Cody’s return finds the nation’s capital even more treacherous and deadlier than ever. Two foreign hit teams—one from Dubai, the second with links to the Vatican—are roaming the streets of Washington, dispensing violent death. A beautiful young Arab princess is on the run. Sara Durrell is in the hospital, under armed guard. And the nuke dealer from Russia is also in town, along with the most unlikely adversary Cody has yet to encounter.
Cody’s only chance: go vigilante, shake DC to its roots, and hunt down the truth in a city of lies!
“One of the best adventure writers of our time!” —James M. Reasoner, NYT Best-Selling Author
This #6 book in Cody series by Stephen Mertz is terrific!!
After an unusual start where Suicide Cody is fighting Russian forces trying to deliver nuclear weapons to North Korea, this book gets down to international intrigue and federal politics right here in Wash DC.
Cody finds Sara Durrell, his former lover and CIA control officer, in the prison ward at Walter Reed Hospital; learns about the return of General Greg Vetrov,a Russian arms dealer formerly involved with the NK nuclear arms story. Then Cody becomes aware of Thelma Justice, an international megastar; Aisha bint al-Ahmad, an Arabian princess; Jared Parnell, Cody's new control officer who is dedicated to get Cody removed from his current position with the CIA; and hit teams from at least two different countries.
You are going to find Cody trying to solve the intrigue and interconnection of these issues and people while trying to stay alive while doing so.
Be prepared: it is going to be difficult to stop reading once you get started. But it will be worth it.
Take Suicide Cody, his CIA handler girlfriend, a Russian with black market nukes, some Vatican assassins and a potential New World Order run by women and a missing princess and you've got the making of a slam-bang thriller. Mertz keeps the action rolling as Cody chases the missing nukes while dealing with a CIA official with his own agenda, hit squads and an ancient artifact that can shake up history. Enjoy the ride.
Overall I like the book and the characters. I don't mind if an author leave a little unfinished business orca teaser to the next book, but I don't like that I have to get the next book to get an ending (if it does) to the story. It's not a TV series. Good enough to get the next book, but I hope there's an ending.
