Alexis Fuller, a young widow and mother to three, meets Jack Miller, a widower, at a local grief share meeting. An unexpected and most definitely unwanted attraction begins.
She vows to stay faithful in both heart and body to her late husband, but the more she tries to resist the pull towards Jack, a kind-hearted firefighter new to town, the harder he is to ignore.
His gentle touch ignites a fire with the promise of a passion to engulf her, a strength to ease her burdens, and comfort to heal her lonely soul.
Trying to atone for his own haunted past, he finds that the closer he embeds his life within her world, the more he feels as if he has found all he has ever wanted.
Can they outrun their demons and painful past to find a love capable of healing and restoring? Or will their secrets destroy their chance for love after death?
This was such a beautiful story. It's a heartbreaking one as well. I mean the first chapter was tough to read through. The one anniversary of my grandpa passing was this week so this book hit me pretty hard, but also a little bit healing as well. Alexis and Jack are going to pull on the heartstrings, but then you add in Alexis' adorable kids. Oh my gosh were they little sweeties. They brought a light to this book. I would say just be prepared for this book to pull on all of your emotions. I even teared up a few times. These characters are going to stay with long after you finishing reading.
This book is full of excitement from start to finish. I just love the words bring you right into their world. Like your right there with them. A+. I am not a everyday reader however when I started in this book I couldn’t put it down and when I did I couldn’t get it off my mind. The energy and excitement makes this book THE BEST.
This novel was absolutely amazing. Although it took me longer to read than I wanted, due to my busy schedule and migraines, this novel kept me wanting to read more.
Alexis is a widow with three young children. She grieves her late husband, but her journey to healing herself is very compelling and realistic. I loved the details given throughout the novel. Alexis allows herself to slowly fall in love with a man, although she struggles with the idea she is betraying her husband by doing so.
I have to say, the plot twist at the end of the novel had me wanting more as I had my hand over my mouth while I finished reading the novel. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book.
"Fireflies and Sunflowers" is a story about an extraordinary woman's healing process with a side of slow-burn romance. After suffering a significant loss, Alexis comes into her own as an individual and a single mother to three amazing kids.
While the beginning might be a little slow - this story describes the grieving process and the accompanying depression in an extremely powerful way. I have a ton of respect for side characters and the community Alexis built for herself.
With one heck of a plot twist at the end, I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the series.
This was an emotional ride, though I had expected as much given the description. I’m waiting anxiously to see how this ends (as there is a cliffhanger and it is a series).
This book. Man. It had me on an emotional roller coaster. Crying one second, heart melting the next, and grinning like a fool. This book completely ripped my heart out. I don't usually read small town romances, but I am so glad I did, as the heartache was completely worth the journey. I can't wait to hear more about Jack and Alexis!! The imagery was so detailed that I felt completely immersed in the setting. I literally couldn't put it down.
A slow burn romance heavily filtered through the viewpoints of two characters, both suffering from the loss of their significant others. Their emotions are palpable and you will feel connected to their struggles as you read. The first half of the book is gloomy as Alexis feels the self imposed guilt of surviving her late husband. While Jack is a firefighter recklessly risking his life, actively searching for danger, as he broods over the loss of his late wife. As Alexis and Jack slowly embrace the connection and friendship between them, they reminisce on their happiest moments with their late partners. Understanding that neither of them want to replace the void left by their absence, but rather to continue their lives seeking joy and happiness without diminishing the memories of the past. Alexis shares her strength with Jack by being vocal about her best memories of her late husband. Yet Jack is reticent to share too many personal details and is especially tight lipped about his late wife. Jack happily embraces Alexis' three children and goes out of his way to gently become a part of their world. When their relationship starts building steam Jack suddenly becomes distant and withdraws.
I have to say this a very gripping and emotionally charged story. The lightness of the scenes of Alexis with her children helps balance out the heaviness of their trauma and daily struggles to relearn what happiness is without that missing half.
Not my typical read so I may not be the intended audience for this title. Overall the book is well written and has a nice flow between the story progressing and flashbacks of the past.
