A very good book for beginners!

If like me you’re a complete novice to wine and you’re looking for a bit more information to help you out when looking to pick out a good bottle of wine then this book is a great place to start.

Fred explains everything one needs to know in simple terms that it’s easy to understand and digest to give you a basic outlook on wines of the world.

He gives you information on how to read a label and what grapes are used and how their categorised to separate high level wines from low quality wines. How to pick out a good bottle in a restaurant and start to teach you what to look for in a good bottle.

He mainly tells you to trust your own instinct and go with what you like. Everyone is different!

He doesn’t tell you to follow strict rules or which wines are the best. He gives you basic knowledge and tools to go out and explore and make your own mind up.

If you’re a wine enthusiast with some knowledge of wine then this book isn’t for you as it is very basic. But for someone like me it was the perfect place to start.

A very unpretentious and accessible book for the total novice to the world of wine as well as a simple breakdown of pretty much every world region that has a significant winemaking industry with a major presence on the world stage. If you are looking for a more comprehensive list of winemaking countries this isn't it! However, as most people who buy this book will likely not be drinking Hungarian Tokaji or Lebanese Chateau Ksara what is covered is more than enough information for all but the most nuanced of wine lovers. Freds introduction to the world of wine contain short concise easily digestible notes on the very basics of buying and tasting (not just drinking) which will get anyone started. The regional chapters are again short and sweet and contain a bit more information on grape varietals for those who wish to di that little bit deeper. Overall a useful little book!
