I read this as a pre-teen, which was quite a while ago now, but it’s one of those stories that stayed with me all these years.

Found an old edition in Paris, Dial Press NY, stamped American Merchant Marine Association, Baltiore, in a book box. This is a collection of many stories (strange and unusual). Mostly they are extremely well written, great prose, well crafted, smooth.
