Jennifer and Ilan have put the events in Cyprus, that almost cost Jennifer her life, far behind them and have now settled into their new home in Israel. Then Ilan goes undercover to infiltrate a terrorist organisation and prevent a major terrorist plot that, if successful, would result in the deaths of many thousands of people. He leaves Jennifer with a promise that this is his last mission and he will retire after it is completed. But then contact with Ilan is lost. Utilising what happened in Cyprus when she relived another woman’s life through her dreams, the Mossad recruit Jennifer to locate both her husband and the terrorists. Can Jennifer succeed? And at what cost to her?
I live on the beautiful Ards peninsula in Northern Ireland with my husband and our two rough collies. I'm an avid fan of motorcycle racing (MotoGP and WSB) and Formula 1, having attended 33 live F1 races at various circuits in Europe. over the last 20+ years. Reading has always been a hobby of mine and I love nothing better than escaping into the world between the pages. A couple of years ago, the seed of an idea came to me. I ran with it, purely for fun, and Rapid Eye Movement was born. Out of that came The Dreaming. Dream Catcher, the final book in the trilogy was published in June 2022, and Bad Dreams - a Rapid Eye Movement spin-off is now available. Collie Hair Soup, published in November 2024, is my personal account of all the rough collies and cats that have shared my life over the years. The cover image is my current rough collie - Lassie.
The Dreaming by Amanda Sheridan is the second book in a trilogy. I read the first, Rapid Eye Movement and enjoyed it immensely. This one didn't disappoint. The gifted author, who obviously has a fertile imagination, has engineered a captivating plot, a unique mixture of mystery, adventure and love. Through countless twists and turns, Sheridan takes the reader on a trip to diverse locations. I was enthralled from the beginning and guessed throughout. The author has a concise writing style and captures a range of positive and negative emotions. She excels at world-building, making the reader feel immersed in the surroundings. Without hesitation, I recommend this tale written by a very talented storyteller.
I have just finished "The Dreaming" by Amanda Sheridan by reading it on my tablet using the kindle unlimited subscription of my girfriend.
Although it's a sequel to Amanda's first novel, "The Rapid Eye Movement," it can still be enjoyed as a standalone story. Amanda adeptly includes enough flashbacks from the previous book to provide context on Jennifer's past, which plays a crucial role in this tale. Jennifer, the protagonist, uses her "ability" to rescue her husband, an Israeli spy on a perilous mission in Syria.
"The Dreaming" is a quick and enjoyable read, with a unique and original plot. I found it quite entertaining and finished it in just a few sittings. As a result, I'm now adding Amanda's first novel to my "to be read" list. I highly recommend this book if you're into uncomplicated thrillers. It's easy to follow and keeps you engaged from start to finish.
After the events from Rapid Eye Movement, Jennifer is now living in Israel with her husband Ilan. She has recovered from her ordeal in the first novel but Ilan has been missing for 8 months and she’s getting worried. Then when Mossad call her in to ask her to perform something that has never been done before it’s starts a race against the clock to find Ilan before a devastating terrorist attack wipes out most of the world’s population. Just like the first novel this deals with dreaming and how you can control it. It steps it up a gear when it’s realised that Jennifer is capable of so much more. It’s scary to think though that some aspect of the story is very relevant to what’s happening in the world today. Especially the plan the terrorists have. Just like the first book I really loved the sequel and I definitely recommend it.
This second installment to the series takes you further into Jennifer and Ilan's lives.
The medical symptoms and behaviors were well researched and explained. This author has a real talent for providing you with exquisite details and visuals of realism into the locations of this story. I found the plot aroused curiosity and held a mysterious secret conspiracy. For the quick to learn, you may be smart enough to undercover the secret service! Being only this author's second novel, she had me fooled. I'm hoping for another adventure in a third sequel!
This book is the absolute perfect blend of mystery, romance, and adventure! I was surprised that it was so easy to follow along with given the fact that I hadn’t read the second book, but I was rarely lost and knew what was happening in the story as it went on. The author takes us on a thrilling adventure with Jennifer and Ilan through Israel. When Ilan disappears during a dangerous undercover mission, Jennifer's determination kicks in. With her special ability to enter dreams, she teams up with Mossad to find her husband and stop a terrorist plot. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat, rooting for Jennifer every step of the way. The characters are well-written and very memorable, each leaving a lasting impression with their distinct personalities and contributions to the story. Overall, I would highly recommend picking up a copy of this! Definitely a must-read.
After reading the author's first novel Rapid Eye Movement, I knew I would simply have to read the second installment due to her captivating story telling! The Dreaming whisks the readers into the future, three years after Jennifer's accident, where we discover Jennifer has relocated to Israel. Ilan has been on a mission for several months at this stage.
This is the point in the novel where the plot sucks you right in, as the need to find out more about Jennifer’s ability to bring on lucid dreaming, and the clues it holds, drives the readers curiosity to the brink, and putting the book down seems impossible!
Jennifer grudgingly becomes involved with the Mossad , which is against everything she believes in, however it is the only way to locate her beloved Ilan. There is just the right balance of mystery and intrigue to keep you guessing. This is not a predictable read, and you will keep wondering if Jennifer will locate Ilan, and whether she will be able to interpret enough from her dreams to assist her along the way. The author has a beautiful writing style, and uses rich descriptive narrative that is both engaging and well written. An easy 5 stars from me, well done!
I read and enjoyed Rapid eye movement. I equally enjoyed The Dreaming. Amanda Sheridan has a really good writing style and I found myself getting absorbed in the book. Jennifer from Rapid Eye Movement has now moved on in her life by three years and living in Israel and as in the first book, Jennifer’s ability to dream of things that are live and active are used by the Israeli government to help them with a whisper of a happening in Syria. The book has many twists and turns that make you feel you know where it’s going then something opposite happens. The tension builds at the right stages and the ending is only known on the final page, Recommended read.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. Its imaginative whilst remaining completely realistic which is incredibly difficult to pull off. The characters are deep and you can't help but feel for them and at quite a few points my heart was in my throat. Incredible thriller.
The storyline is interesting and the grammar is flawless. All box ticked, so this book deserves five stars. It is about a woman named Jennifer who has the ability to connect with others through dreams. I promise you won't regret buying this book.
I had not read the first book (I didn't even realize this was a second book until I looked into it a few chapters in) and I didn't know what to expect when I picked up this story. But I was almost instantly hooked and delightfully surprised by the originality of the story. There was never a moment in the book when I felt I needed to have read the first one to fully understand what was going on.
Although there were a couple of lulls in the story, that were perhaps more noticeable in this book than they would be in others because this story moved along comfortably fast for the most part, after the twist that took place around page 20 in the ebook, I wasn't going to out the book down. I needed to know where it was going. I was in it til the end.
On the surface the premise seems familiar, but this is a very unique book and explores new ground.
Even though I haven't read the first book, this one totally engrossed me. I was also able to follow the plot without any problems because there were plenty of explanations provided to make reading the book as a standalone easier. I adored the eastern Mediterranean setting since I have Greek origins, and it all felt very familiar, thereby making it easier for me to immerse myself in the story. I've always been fascinated by spy novels, and this one lived up to my expectations with its gripping story and surprising turns. I liked the main character and could really get into her head, although some of her 'abilities' felt a bit too much at times. Overall, I very much enjoyed the book, and will be going back to Rapid Eye Movement as well to get an even better insight into the author's inspirations.
I really enjoyed Rapid Eye Movement, and this sequel did not disappoint. The story was suspenseful and interesting, and held my interest to the end. Well done!
The Dreaming was just as brilliant as Rapid Eye Movement. Sheer genius by Amanda Sheridan. It was so hard to put down and I definitely recommend this book.
The Dreaming by Amanda Sheridan is an entertaining read with a creative plot. As a sequel book, it might have helped if I had first read Rapid Eye Movement, but I was able to glean enough info in the second book to get the needed context in the storyline.
I immediately liked how the setting was mostly in Israel and partly in Syria, two locations I’ve read a lot about in the news over the years but haven’t seen too much in fiction. In a nutshell, the main character, Jennifer, is whisked away at the start of the book by Israeli authorities to help them locate her missing husband, Ilan, a spy who is infiltrating a frightening terrorist organization in Syria. It’s the way she’s asked to help these guys that makes this book different.
The Dreaming is a slow-burning suspense novel that isn’t an action-packed read but does leave readers wanting to know what’s going to happen throughout. Those who are interested in the power of dreams will enjoy this book, though readers will have to suspend their belief in what dreams can actually accomplish.
At times I felt there was too much explaining going on, especially when it came to describing the various elements of dreams. My eyes sort of glazed over during these parts. I also felt there could have been more danger in the book, perhaps someone lurking in the shadows to disrupt Jennifer’s wine-soaked life in between her vivid dreams. But I liked the main character and thought the ending was solid and surprising. The Dreaming is a good read for those who like spy thrillers and dreamscape settings.
I haven’t read this first book in the series by Amanda Sheridan, and while I feel I would have benefitted knowing more of what had happened before and the backstory of some of the characters, this didn’t affect my enjoyment of reading this as a standalone. I really enjoyed Jennifer and Ilan’s story, and when Ilan goes missing on a covert mission to foil the deadly plan’s of his enemies, Jennifer is called upon to use her gifts to finish what he started and ensure his safe return.
I really liked Jennifer as a main character. Her drive to protect the person that she loved was a really strong quality, and I enjoyed her internal dilemma of working alongside those she would normally stand against. The ability to interpret dreams didn’t come across as entirely unique, but I enjoyed the mystery and puzzle element where she had to piece together what she had seen in her dreams. I found I was able to link some pieces too, so as I was reading the book I felt like I was finding solutions and asking further questions right alongside her. This really builds a sense of immersion and the writing style of this book is both witty and descriptive and really compliments the story.
The latter stages of this book were really dramatic and there were some scenes that were really hard to stop reading. I started off slower than normal with this book but as the speed and pacing ramped up I quickly finished it. I was more than happy with the ending and sincerely hope there is more to come.
The Dreaming is a thriller and the second in a series about a British woman married to a Mossad officer who has the power to see real-time events and communicate with others in her dreams. In the first book (Rapid Eye Movement) she was communicating with another woman while they were both in comas after accidents at different locations. In that book they effectively re-lived each other's lives.
In this book Jennifer (the one married to the Mossad officer), now living in Israel, is called in to help when her husband goes incommunicado while penetrating a terrorist cell in Syria. The Israelis know that something BIG is being planned. That's why they inserted their man into the field in the first place. But the loss of communiations threatens to compromise the entire mission.
That's where Jennifer's rare (possibly unique skill) comes into play. The problem is that such lucid dreams cannot be commanded. They have to play out as nature decrees. And the dreams can also be disturbing... especially when they bring unwanted news. But with lives on the line, the Israelis have no altertaive but to push the envelope.
Amanda Sheridan's skill as an author is not only to keep the reader guessing, but also to maintain credible characterization and maintain the plausibility of the characters through the evolving situation. She sweeps the reader along with the characters in a way that makes the reader care.
One final point: the method the terrorists are proposing to use is, shall we say, more than a little topical. But I will leave you with that teaser.
I read Sheridan’s first book Rapid Eye movement and loved it so was thrilled to read the second installment.
We move to Jennifer’s life three years after her accident. She is now living in Israel and Ilan has been on a mission for seven months. I do not want to spoil anything here but let’s say, Jennifer’s particular skill set of Lucid dreaming, and remote viewing really come into play. Taking on a role with the Mossad is the last thing she wanted to do, but she had to try and find her beloved Ilan. I love Sheridan’s style of writing, and it was just as gripping as the first. The way she manages to keep you guessing until the last page had me fighting sleep to try and plough through. She has a witty style in some instances, which compliments Jennifer’s character well and I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I am generally someone who can predict what is coming but this one had me all tangled up and second guessing everything.
The story itself is unique and original and I cannot express just how engrossed I was.
Will she find Ilan? Can she make sense of her dreams enough to save him? You will have to read it and find out, trust me you will not be disappointed!
Jennifer has a gift, and if you've read Book one (which I didn't), you will be familiar with her lucid dreaming powers. Thankfully, there is no need to read book one. Everything is explained in great detail in this one so you can catch up. It's perfectly fine as a stand alone, although, like me, you might be bummed to miss out on the start of Jennifer and Ilan's romance. Go read book one! The writing was easy to follow, short sentences during the action and dialogue helped move the story quickly. I think the premise was original and interesting, and I can see more books in this series. There is so much room for character growth between Jennifer and Ilan, perhaps they can team up next time! Saul was an interesting and multi-layered character whose own motivations kept me guessing whether he was friend of foe. One criticism I have were the lengthy periods in which nothing happened. There were pages of Jennifer sleeping or taking a shower, eating breakfast, drinking lots of wine, etc. I felt they were unnecessary and really dragged the story down. The romance in the book was tense and well done. I felt it was the highlight of the story. For that reason I would recommend this book to fans of romance who are looking for a twist of suspense and intrigue.
Having already read Rapid Eye Movement, I was really looking forward to reading the second book in this series.. It didn’t disappoint. In fact, it was even better than the first book, which also wowed me.
This one is expertly written, as was the first book and, thrillingly, has even more suspense. It focuses on the fascinating concept of lucid dreaming, the ability to direct where your dreams go. It is a rare occurrence, but oddly enough, my husband had the ability to some degree when he was younger. Amanda Sheridan has managed to incorporate this curious phenomenon into a brilliant story. She seems very knowledgeable in the ways of the Jihad and Mossad which adds to the storytelling.
Readers will not be disappointed if they choose this brilliant book to read. Even as a stand alone it is a perfect choice. I highly recommend it.
Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed Rapid Eye Movement, but The Dreaming was amazing, enthralling, and captivating. The story picks up a few years after Rapid Eye Movement and Ilan is on his last job. When he disappears its on Jennifer and her "special skills" to find him. I dont want to spoil the story, but is so clever! Sheridans imagination is just fantastic. It has it all and is a must read if you like to immerse yourself in a well reserched and marvellously written full throttle thriller. I'd recommend reading Rapid Eye Movement first for full context although i do think it can be read as a stand alone as the author fills you on on the story. Great read, super impressed. Really glad I picked it up, but disappointed it took me so long to do so. Dreamcatcher next!
Fantastic Sequel! Wow. This was an amazing read! If you want a book to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, this is the one. It starts of with an undercurrent of tension and it builds and builds. I couldn’t read fast enough to learn the fate of Ilan and whether Jennifer would be able to help Mossad in their mission. Thrilling, dark and at times gruesome, this was a book I couldn’t put down. Highly recommended!
This book was full steam ahead from the very first page. ‘The Dreaming’ is one of those reads where you think you know what’s going on, when in fact you don’t, and just when you think the story is done – it’s not! The author has incredible imagination, leaving me on the edge of my seat wondering if Jennifer could save Ilan once she’d found him in her ‘dreams’. The characters are believable, and I can easily see this book turned into a film. Recommend the read.
I loved book one and am thrilled to say this one held up, if not exceeded it! There was quite a bit of repeat explanation from Rapid Eye Movements, which really helps readers who bounce around between books, especially with so much going on! And now Jen has learned enough about herself and grown as a person to the point where she can use her abilities to literally change the world and save the people she loves. Phenomenal character development.
This book reminds me of the movie Inception, where dreams are more closely connected to our reality. Jennifer’s ability to interact with others in her dreams is what allows her to save her husband from terrorists. The twists and turns leave you feeling relief and the suspense developed at an pace that intensified the further you got into the story. Great writing, excellent knowledge application to fiction. Job well done.
Reading Amanda Sheridan's "The Dreaming" was an intense experience. A superb follow-up to the first book in the series.
Follow the life of Jennifer and Ilan three years after the accident that had drawn Jennifer into the world of lucid dreaming. This book grips the reader as Jennifer's ability to lucid-dream is used by the Mossad to spy on their enemies. You almost give up on hope and then a twist amd another ensures that you're hooked till the end. Recommended!
The Dreaming by Amanda Sheridan is the latest novel I’ve read by this author, and I have to say this book is just as good if not better than its predecessor. It’s a thriller that kept me awake at night turning pages. The narrative and dialogue are scarily realistic, and now I’ve finished reading my wife is threatening divorce. I told her she can have our house if I can keep the book! Now, where did I put that rat poison?
Worth 5 stars. Posted by Elijah, son of Michael S.
This book took some time to read. Being a fan of this author it was indeed a perfection just like the last one of her books. This one is the sequel to her first book. Jennifer is such an amazing character in this book! Jennifer and Illan went through so much in the book. Going through so many issues to test them. It was a story that made me want to know what was going to happen next. Part of me was scared because I was afraid something bad was going to happen. But the ending of the book was so beautiful between Illan and Jennifer. Simply him asking her if she loves him, and a simple reply of yes. What a way to end the book! Good job, and I recommend this author for sure.
An amazing sequel! I thoroughly enjoyed Rapid Eye Movement and was looking forward to reading The Dreaming. It didn’t disappoint. Three years on from the accident in Cyprus, Jennifer and Ilan are living in Tele Aviv. Jennifer is loving working at the rescue centre while Ilan has gone undercover on one last mission to infiltrate a terrorist group in Syria. Jennifer is becoming anxious due to not hearing from him for quite some time and when two Mozzad agents come knocking at her door, needing her help as they have lost all contact with her husband, things get interesting. This story is an absolute belter. Amanda Sheridan has certainly done her research in so many areas as she incorporates realistic world issues along with Jennifer’s incredible ability to control her dreams. The Dreaming definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat as you’re catapulted into a world of espionage, terrorism and danger along with the suspense of running out of time. A carefully, well thought out, descriptive story. You really feel the emotions of the characters and believe the storyline. I was gripped from the start and looking forward to a third book in this series. Highly Recommended!
