Zaya Wayward is a necromancer on the run. Pursued by the United League of Dissent and hunted by the Haxsan Guard, Zaya is uprooted from the Tarahik Military Base and sent into hiding in Scarmouth. Bordered by lush rainforest and golden sands, the coastal village should be a utopia, but a gruesome incident transpires on the beach one evening—a ritual that demands the sacrifice of many lives.
All Zaya wants to do is find her friends and rescue Captain Jad Arden, the man she loves, but something deadly is woken by the ritual. The Four Revenants—the bringers of the apocalypse—hunger for Zaya’s blood. Dragged into a nightmarish landscape, Zaya makes a perilous journey through dense jungle and forested mountains in an attempt to survive, but is she running away from danger, or straight into its arms?
With her friendships near breaking point and loyalties stretched thin, could Zaya’s pursuit for Jad destroy everything and everyone she trusts?
Hi, I’m Cas, an author of gothic romantasy where romance dances with ruin and magic whispers from the shadows. I write haunting, atmospheric stories shaped by folklore and the idea that some secrets are deeper than graveyards.
My novels live in the space where beauty meets fear and love brushes up against the damned. Expect slow-building dread, forbidden romance, morally grey hearts, and characters who are always one choice away from ruin or redemption.
If you love haunted worlds, dark magic, and romances that feel both dangerous and inevitable, you’ll feel right at home here.

This is the second book in the Wayward series by Cas E Crowe.
Zaya Wayward is a necromancer on the run. She is desperate to avoid capture by the United League of Dissent, who need her blood to restore their spell-bound leader, Morgomoth to his full glory. Should Morgomoth regain consciousness and have his powers returned, Zaya knows he will continue his diabolical mission to purge the Earth of humans.
Zaya is new to her powers and certainly no match for the evil necromancer Morgomoth, who despite having been captured and put under a sleeping hex by the Council of Founding Sovereigns, can still raise the Four Revenants to capture Zaya. If outwitting the four riders of the apocalypse is near-impossible for the novice necromancer, then infiltrating the ULD to save the man she loves is absolutely impossible. But Zaya is not the type to die wondering.
Action-packed, the story moves at a cracking pace. Events are imaginative and spooky, and kept me turning pages to find out what happened next. Descriptions are well-crafted and don’t interfere with the pace. Despite Zaya’s life of hardship – or possibly because of it – she is tough, gritty and feisty but also caring, with a strong sense of loyalty and justice. A compelling character.
The Four Revenants is a thoroughly entertaining read, and now I await the Dark Divide.
The Four Revenants is the second book in the Wayward Haunt saga, and in this one we see Zaya thrown into hiding, due to events in the first book, with little understanding of where she is or what she needs to do. Unfortunately, she lands right in the middle of enemy territory and learns quite quickly the United League of Dissent, the one group she must avoid at all costs, has seized control of the area and is rounding up recruits to join their cause by any means necessary. This was such a fun, fast-paced novel, and I enjoyed learning more about the political structure of this world as well as more about its history.
I love Zaya's character and it was intriguing to see her develop her necromancy powers in this book. While she is brave and loyal, she is not without her faults, and I definitely enjoyed the little mind-games she plays when she is angry or upset with those around her as it makes her that much more relatable. I definitely would react the same way if I had to tramp through jungle with some of the people with which she was forced to rely on for her survival. She is unquestionably a compelling character. And while I was happy to learn more about some of the other characters, I would have liked a bit more development with regards to them as so much focus was on Zaya that I felt sometimes the others weren't as fully developed. There are a couple of others who have some interesting stories to tell and while I don't necessarily need their POV, it would be nice to learn more about their backgrounds and it would help develop the social system in this world.
This story was action-packed, moving along so quickly you barely had time to take a breath between action scenes. The things that happened were unexpected, and there were so many twists and turns coming at me that I had trouble putting the book down. Descriptions merge so well with the action, and I amused myself trying to guess the names of the cities that were described in this book as this takes place in a far-distant Earth. I like how the author integrates the political system into the story so you figure out what's happening as the characters learn about shifting politics and events that are happening. I don't have it all figured out, but I like learning about new worlds in this way as I find it more interesting. The book is written from Zaya's POV, so you learn about what is happening as she learns about things.
The Four Revenants was better than the first book and does not suffer from second book syndrome. The writing is sharp with good character and world development, and moves along at a swift pace. I highly recommend this series if you are looking for suspense, great action with good world development, and believable and relatable characters. Book three was just released and book four will be coming out sometime in 2024.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Zaya's story continues in book 2 of The Wayward Haunt series, and just like the first it did not disappoint! Author Cas E Crowe is talented, bringing you into Zaya's world with ease; her words descriptive and entertaining, giving you what you need to really imagine where she is, without being overly wordy.
Zaya's personal growth in this book is inspiring, and it makes you hope there is someone out there that would care as much as Zaya! I'll avoid the spoilers of course! Full of drama and seemingly unsurvivable obstacles, Zaya once again impresses with her ability to overcome! So well written, I'm thoroughly invested in this story and can't wait to see where book 3 takes us!
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Damn Cas E Crowe!! Why you do me like that?!? This was amazing! Seeing the MC grow more into herself and becoming more confident was beautiful. The way she was unsure about herself and her own strengths and the way she doubted herself so many times only to be basically shocked at how much she is growing was so sweet 🥰
Book 2 of The Wayward Haunt was very well written. I kept wondering how Zaya and her travel companions would defeat each obstacle they came upon and each challenge Zaya faced while developing her necromancy powers. She is not without fault, as any MC shouldn't be. But Zaya handles learning of her necromancy, the divide in friendship and who is a true friend through trials and tribulations all while running from the ULD in this second of the Wayward Haunt series.
I am absolutely addicted to this series. It is so good. Highly recommend for those who love fantasy YA with necromancers, magic, wraiths, the four horsemen of the Apocalypse and more.
Honestly it just keeps getting better and better I can’t wait for any of the other books I am extremely excited and can’t wait I would highly recommend this to anyone that likes fantasy
Once again, I was BLOWN AWAY by this amazing series! I absolutely LOVE the world building, and I was so excited we got to see more of Zaya’s world in this sequel.
After the ending of the last book, Zaya must now round up her friends (and a few enemies) on a journey to help her save the world from the Four Revenants. She also begins to truly accept her necromancy abilities and understand how much power she really has. But will her powers be strong enough to stop the Four Revenants? Or will they end up doing more harm than good?
Definitely check out this epic sequel to Wayward Haunt! I cannot wait for book three!
