GUYS! This story is truly something! Unveiling Alice is the debut novel by Mary Crocker, an author from my hometown of Porterville, CA. I am so glad I stumbled across this book from a friends story on IG. 5⭐️

There was so much to love about this story! It was real, relatable, honest and so vulnerable. Unveiling Alice is truly about realizing your own worth and I think that was portrayed perfectly. I really loved the family/friends aspect of this story. Everyone was so supportive. I swear I almost cried during that last running scene! I felt so overwhelmed. So sweet!! I loved going on this journey. It’s a sad story to start and I felt so many emotions. But it’s a story that leads to new beginnings in the most beautiful of ways! I feel so happy and proud for this author, you have no idea! (Especially since this is based on true events.) Also, stealing the Barnes and Noble date idea! I loved that!

Overall, I would 100% recommend reading this book!! You won’t be disappointed!! I could say so much more but I’m not giving spoilers. Just trust me on this one. ❤️

This book was really engaging and difficult for me to put down. It didn't take me too long to get through it, so I would call it an easy weekend read. It reminded me of some Sarah Dessen or Nicholas Sparks books I've read in the past. This book has a Hallmark-movie feel to it.

The aspect I liked most was the structure. Specifically, how the author introduces us to Alice and David, and then sets up a mystery about how their relationship ended by skipping to Alice trying to hold herself together at the airport while catching a flight home. This left me with questions to which I craved answers. I wanted to know more about David and what led him to call it quits with Alice.

The first part of the book is about Alice coping with the broken engagement. I think this was the most captivating part of the story. It felt so human. This book is inspired by true events, and you can feel that vividly in this section of the book.

The next part of the book follows a nine-month time jump. I think this is the weaker section of the book, but this is when the romance really begins. The first half of the book had me thinking it was just going to be a comeback story, and then Alice ends up in Nashville doing new things and falling into a love triangle. I thought this was a tad too familiar to other romance stories, and it started to seem less real to me. It's hard to believe that guys like Jax and Wes could actually exist.

In spite of that, I was glued to the story the entire time. It was really enjoyable and the ending was very satisfying. The final act really makes you feel good, and I hope everyone can experience life moments like that, full of love and victory.

Great story of personal triumph. Very enjoyable, easy to read, and gave me some good food for thought. I know this story is based on personal events. Through personal relations I know the first part of the story is all too real. It crushed me when I heard it. Now I am wondering if characters like Jax and Wes are also real as their roles and how they came into place in the story seem too much of a wonderful coincidence. I hope so, as I wish Mary every happiness. Not every woman is lucky to later find "the one" so I wonder how Alice and her comeback would look if she were single and was not having luck in dating.

Dreamy, dreamy Wes. When his character was introduced, I thought it was going to be a fling. But the more you uncover of this man, the more you want him in Alice’s life for the long-haul. Even when they had their first fight, it didn’t feel over. I love the uniqueness of Wes’ job/outlook/quirks and how it fits so well with where Alice is at in her journey. Alice needed the encouragement to live more present with the recent and drastic life change. This book is a refreshing reminder that it always works out. Even when you think it won’t.

Mesmerizing!

It's been awhile since I stayed up too late to read a book that hooked me as well as this did! Simple, yet masterful in its telling, this book is both a great escape and a tale of personal triumph. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I anguished. I loved being drawn in so deeply!

What a crushing, heart wrenching, yet truly beautiful redemption story this was.

This debut novel, Mary, you literally hit out of the park. All of the emotions were running through me, sorry for all of the constant DMs.

Alice’s fiancé calls off their engagement mere days before their wedding with no explanation at all, which leads her down a path of confusion and sadness.

Even with this awful curveball thrown at her, she moves to Nashville to start fresh with a clean slate to focus on herself and being the best version of her she can be.

If you want a read with emotion on every page, this is for you. I laughed, I cried, I couldn’t put this down. You’ll learn how to move on and grow, even after something so life altering happens.

Truly inspirational story and beautifully written.

It felt like 90% of the book was in quotes and I was reading a diary written in 3rd person. Felt a tad juvenile and many of the conversations far fetched or unrealistic. We get no real details about the break up or their relationship before so the whole book is essentially conversations after and finishes focusing on writing a book she scrapped to write this one. Not what I hoped for.
