Analytic Reflections from Conflict Zones: A Cautionary Tale for A Polarizing America and World

Rate this book
"Analytic Reflections from Conflict Zones: A Cautionary Tale for A Polarizing America and World" is a compelling story about the author’s life-journey through conflict zones and his return home with a cautionary tale for increasingly conflicted societies. In America, and elsewhere, political polarization, caustic commentary, and societal discord reminds the author of dangerous patterns that he has seen before in conflict zones such as Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Somalia.

Political and Social extremism jeopardizes hard won democracy. Dr. Adams believes that a broader, informed perspective is needed, which includes information about how such circumstances played out for countries and societies in the past, and how there are viable approaches and tools for better understanding such circumstances and getting out of them.

To that end, he has written a book on the matter based on direct experience working in conflict zones and related conceptual work. He shares these observations, information, and warnings in the book. His stated aim is to contribute to improving on the national discourse before things get out of hand.

Analytic Reflections is unique in its blend of on-the-ground stories, mix of professional and personalized writing styles, historical and policy contextualization, and accessible analytic tools (field tested in Bosnia) for conflict and intervention assessments, briefings, and planning at local or societal levels.

Based on direct experience and considerable original conceptual work, the author’s engaging human realism perspective is conveyed with conviction and humor to reach a wide audience of academics, students, professionals, and the general public—A new and authentic voice for our times, and a missing piece for clarifying the dynamics of conflict transformation for everyone to see and understand.
