Jakob Kõrv was an Estonian writer and journalist. Jakob Kõrv (1849-1916) worked in the editor of the newspaper "Sakala" in Viljandi from 1881 to 1882. 1882 he acquired the newspaper Valgus in Rakvere, which he began publishing in Tallinn. J. Kõrv, who initially considered the program of the democratic direction of the national movement, later became a supporter of the tsarist Russification policy. J. Kõrv, who became infamous with secret complaints, lived in Switzerland for the rest of his life.
Of Jakob Kõrvi's literary work, Pushkin, Gogol, Tolstoy and others are worth mentioning. translations of works. On the other hand, he took advantage of the works of well-known writers (Chateaubriand and others), publishing them adapted under his own name. J. Kõrvi's original stories are of little literature and ideally unconvincing.
J. Kõrvi's folklore activities are worth considering.
1881 a. Kõrv published the book "Estonian-People's Ancient Stories and Old Speeches", which is the basis for this publication. In most cases, J. Kõrv has been able to give moody memoirs in a convincing artistic design, has created fantasically rich stories with a fascinating development, the characters of which are believable and educational in nature. On the other hand, the songs in the memorial stories and in many ways imitating Kreutzwald as well as real folk songs remain artistically helpless.
