Elizabeth Jurado was born and raised in the border city of El Paso, Texas. Living in El Paso, with the Rio Grande River just down the street from her childhood home, allowed her to experience life in a unique way. As a child, Elizabeth stood on the embankments of the river that separated two countries and watched children from Mexico playing on their side of the river. Throughout her life the two cultures, the American and Mexican, merged into one. Elizabeth saw it in the people around her, in the food, in the language, and in the music. She saw it in the schools she attended as a child and later as a teacher. It was those experiences that inspired her to write Saygar the Magnificent.

Elizabeth worked as a substitute teacher and a first grade teacher for several years. Her inspirations for her book came from a life long observation of the world of children as a child herself and through her work as a teacher. Her characters like bossy Marcie, "little accident" Ezequiel, to brainy Irwin and Saygar were all inspired by some child she met somewhere in her life.

Elizabeth worked as a teacher for several years before making a difficult decision to put her career aside to become a full-time mother to her three sons. With two of her sons close to graduating from college and her youngest a senior in high school, she has made another life altering decision to pursue her dream of becoming an author into a reality.

Imagination and adventure!

A very cute story about getting outside and finding adventure through imagination. Little Luna, accompanied by her pet turtle and dog crawl into a large box to play and are soon launching to space and finding their way to the moon. Lots of fun and silly moments. Especially, when they discover the moon people too. A great lesson to get outside and use exploratory play and discovery through imagination.

Adventurous and entertaining

Luna's Do-Something Day: A Trip to the Moon is a fun and adventurous story that will take readers on a trip to space thanks to a little girl's big imagination.

One day, while Luna was watching TV, Abuelita came in the room, turned off the TV, and told Luna there will be no more "do-nothing" days. Today will be a "do-something" day!

As Luna headed outside, she complained there was nothing fun to do. Abuelita recommended that if Luna used her imagination, her day would be full of fun. And guess what? Abuelita was right! Luna went on a search for "Imagination" and ended up on an trip to space where she saw the sun and planets, and visited the moon where she met moon people.

This is a very entertaining book that not only takes children on an adventure but teaches them the power of their imagination and a little bit about space. The author does a great job of depicting, both through words and illustrations, a child's imagination. A simple cardboard box is converted into a rocket ship. Ants become moon people.

What is also great about this book is that the author throws in a bit of humor - Luna was searching for "Imagination" and it was with her all along.

The illustrations were bright, colorful, and really brought out the story.

Great work by the author, illustrator, and everyone else who was a part of the writing journey! A must read!

"Luna's Do-Something Day: A Trip to the Moon" is a great book to inspire kids to get outside and play. At first, Luna does not think she will have any fun outside because it is so boring. When an ordinary cardboard box turns into a spaceship, Luna jumps on in search of adventure, fun, and imagination. She is sure she will find fun and imagination on the moon but the spaceship keeps taking wrong turns. It's funny to see Luna searching for adventure and imagination when she is using her imagination the whole time. She finally lands on the moon and is sure that the aliens there will have imagination, but they have no clue what she is talking about. Will she ever find imagination?
The story is a cute way to encourage kids to get outdoors and play. Even though Luna didn't think she found imagination, she sure did find imagination! Her grandmother was very pleased.
I would recommend this book to kids around ages 6-8.

Turn off the TV and do something fun today

Luna's Abuelita (which I discovered means Grandmother) insists she needs IMAGINATION to have fun.
The little girl takes this literally and sets out to find it. Gathering her animal friends she goes out into the garden and begins her quest.
Without realising Luna's imagination takes over and the little crew blast off into space by the means of a cardboard box turned spaceship.
An entertaining read that will introduce little ones to space and some of the planets.
Well worth checking out especially for its bright illustrations.
