My aunt was next in line to be the Elder, but a family tradition changed all of that. Despite growing up as a witch in the public eye, I built a place for myself here in my hometown of Ardburn. Mom acts in my stead as Coven Elder until the Council, a group of the other court leaders, deems me ready.
The other courts have shown no sign of following our steps and coming out to humans, but we’ve found a bit of peace with the other supernatural beings. We have established rules for us all to abide by.
Then witches started disappearing.
With the Council pressuring the Coven for answers, questions are piling up, and the precious life I built here is cracking under the weight.
But what will remain after the search for answers is over?
TWOFAS is a tale of elemental magic, supernatural courts, and unfolding secrets.

★The Witch of Fire and Shadows is the first book in the Burning Bloodlines Series.★
TRIGGER WARNINGS: This book contains graphic violence, and adult language.
When it comes to books, Bri Mooney can't pick a lane. She's a mood reader and writer, letting her imagination lead her to new worlds, characters, and stories. The one thing you can always expect when you pick up her books are some delicious grey morals, magic, and myths.
Between the shifter-vampire squabbles, alien ship landings, and coven meetings life in the woods with three cats is rarely the quiet. And to the nun who told me I'd never excel at writing...hah.
Big thank you to the author for providing a free e-book in exchange for an honest review!
Still confused about what this book is supposed to be.
Honestly, not much more to say. I have been confused during the entire book what it is supposed to be about and what the plotline is actually saying. Maybe I suffered a stroke and temporarily have gone stupid but I could not make out the heads or the tails of this story.
I think it needs a good editor to go over it and weed out any inconsistencies.
The Witch of Fire and Shadows is the first book in an upcoming series but isn't simply the trappings of setting the stage. While Bri Mooney takes the opportunity to weave an intricate path toward a faraway destination, we're given plenty to climb over, peek into, crawl under, bite our nails about and run toward. This modern-day witch's tale is rich with mystery, intrigue, suspense and emotion. There is no way to predict where we are headed until we turn the page.
I read this book in one sitting! An excellent start to what I believe is going to be a compelling series, I can't wait to read the next instalment!
I was in a bit of a fantasy slump after reading the Zodiac Academy series, but this has cured me!
With the potential for multiple romance story lines, battle scenes and well-fleshed out characters this has all the makings of a brilliant first in a series. Combining witches, fae, vampires and humans this book begins to explore the perks and perils of the supernatural race living openly amongst humans. With a storyline that leaves the reader with questions and a desire to keep on going this is a brilliant debut for the series.

What would you do if you were the future head of your coven? Was that question easy to answer? Well, what if I forgot to mention that the witches were at risk, being picked off and dying one by one? Has your answer changed? The Witch of Fire and Shadows follows the story of Maeve, the future leader of her coven, much to the dismay of her family. With only her security guard, one family member and her best friend by her side how could she possibly anticipate the danger she is in just for existing as a witch? What will happen when she ignores every red flag she could have seen and instead goes on a ride with her ex-fiancee's best friend? Will she make it out alive, and what will the cost be?
I opted in for an ARC copy in exchange for a review. I won't lie I opted in because the warning said sexual scenes leading me to think there was smut. I dont know Bri and only at the end of the book at the authors note did I learn her books only have a touch of romance. This is my fault for not reading about the author before opting in.
Removing my bias and reason for opting in the story is enjoyable. There is a lot going on and you're constantly wondering where the story will lead. The characters are interesting and it the plot kept me engaged.
Overall I do feel like the world building could have been a bit more in depth, the premise of power and the magic systems are so interesting but it isn't explained enough to understand. For example there is a mention of Kings in one section but the King's are not explained. There is a reference with a small explanation near the end but I had forgotten which King names I read in the middle that the explanation at the end didn't make that much sense.
I recommend this book for anyone who loves a heroine with an interesting back story coming into herself. Finding out who she is and growing as the stpry progresses. The side characters are interesting and well rounded. The character development is spot on.
The MFC does need to be saved more than once and can't save herself just yet so she isnt exceptionally strong in the first book.
I opted for the ARC copy of this book in exchange for a review and I’m not disappointed. This book has the making of a great series! There are a lot of questions left unanswered and one hell of a cliffhanger. But I’m hooked and can’t wait to see what’s in store for the characters. A lot of things happen in a short amount of pages and at times I was confused at how fast things happened but the plot comes together and it’s a thrill ride from start to finish.
For the first novel of the series, there wasn’t a lot of world building and it went right into the action. I am used to medium to slow paced books so this gave me a bit of whiplash but I loved every moment of it. I cannot wait to see what Bri has in store for these characters!
This book is clearly the start of an interesting series. The novel is great in its own right (interesting characters, budding and dying romances, and engaging supernatural mysteries), but also leaves a lot to look forward to in the coming books. I can’t wait to learn more about the different players in this story! If you like the TV show Charmed, you’ll love this. A must for people looking for a new contemporary fantasy series that is off the beaten path!
I really enjoyed this book. It’s the first in a new series for Bri. It introduces you to new characters and a compelling plot. The book moves at a good pace. It’s a good introduction to new characters that I look forward to reading more about. It kind of reminds me of Laurel K Hamilton with the mixture of a few different species.
This book was okay. Interesting premise but the plot was all over the place. It was very confusing at times, especially in the second half of the book when it got more action packed. When the second book comes out, I probably won’t read it
TWOFAS has much left to unveil from what I’ve read. Maeve is a force to be reckoned with. Even with her experience, her power is untapped yet unpredictable & I love that. I do wish it was longer. When I was nearing the end I was craving more. But I’m a way I’m glad, more layers to be revealed in the story & more books for me!
If you’re looking for an adventurous fantasy with mild mystery, new comfort characters, some gore, & magic - this is for you.
Although there were a few plot points I wish the author had expanded upon, I enjoyed this book. I particularly enjoyed the character development and the realistic portrayal of a learning curve that Maeve embarks on. The ending had me really curious about what the future holds for Maeve and her friends, and I’m looking forward to the sequel.
