This book’s “Foreword” and “Introduction” are intimidating, but the chapters and format are incredibly well organized and clear. The specific examples, charts, and summaries are helpful, and I loved the TV game show analogy in the final chapter. I would recommend this text to teachers who want to develop a better understanding of Depth of Knowledge (DOK), and I’m grateful that I have a summer PLC to discuss the book with and begin implementing the suggested strategies starting tomorrow.
Tertarik baca buku ini karena mau memperluas pemahaman aku soal belajar dan mengajar. Setelah diselami lembar per lembarnya—yang lumayan butuh proses untuk benar-benar tenggelam di dalamnya karena banyak istilah yang advance—aku jadi dapat pengayaan soal bagaimana menyusun aktivitas belajar dan mengajar yang mendukung secara emosional, kognitif, dan sosial. Buku ini sangat praktis untuk para calon pengajar atau yang ingin menjadi deep learner.
Memang, buku ini berpusat kepada guru yang mempunyai tanggung jawab untuk memancing, mengintervensi, menyesuaikan, dan mengakomodifikasi berbagai bentuk macam pertanyaan dan metode yang menstimulasi proses belajar siswa supaya lebih efektif.
Di dalamnya dibahas bahwa DOK dan Bloom's Taxonomy itu berbeda. Taxonomy Bloom bersifat hierarkis sebagai level berpikir. Sedangkan DOK (Depth of Knowledge) adalah tujuan pembelajaran. Pada DOK 1 bertujuan untuk mengingat atau mendapatkan (acquiring), DOK 2 menerapkan (applying), DOK 3 analisis (analyse), DOK 4 mengembangkan (augment). DOK tidak bersifat hierarkis dan seperti tangga. Namun, lebih menawarkan pada tujuan-tujuan pembelajaran yang mampu mengasah keterampilan belajar dan meningkatkan kapasitas kognitif siswa yang didukung dari proses sosial dan emosional serta pembentukan makna akademik yang tepat.
