On The Turning Away: The Real Hide & Seek

Rate this book
As children, we all played hide & seek. The object of the game was to hide so well, we would never be found. Here, we take that very idea of hiding and apply it to real life - from start to finish. Hiding, sometimes where we cannot be found. Also, turning away from those we did find but kept searching. A true reflection of life, regardless of who you are, where you live or how old you are, this book is an eye-opener on things you may have already known but chose to turn away from. All written in simple language, without the use of any organized religion dogma or beliefs. A common sense, philosophical, bitter-sweet view of life - your life!

About the author

The joy of writing is unbelievable! Filled with joy, confusion, love, hate, acceptance, experience and faith, the world is our template on which to write in.

Nothing can be more empowering than setting our creativity and imagination free in the form of a book! The ability to share. The ability to give and receive. The ability to inspire and be inspired is priceless.

One of the most amazing parts of being an author to me is that fact that my writing will live beyond my years!

I was born in communist Cuba where there is no such freedom to express yourself. Among the many poverties I overcame, being able to write freely is most likely the most valuable.

A calling to the seminary, answered but not completed, gave me solid grounds on philosophy and ethics. Coupled with experience as a professional photographer - and having walked so many different paths of life, I consider myself a writer about "stuff".

Stuff that matters but also stuff that amuses and entertains. There are very few delights we can engage in than laughing at ourselves and at life.

A short book with a great message!!!

The book from the beginning gives us a small introduction of what we will find. From the beginning it specifies that the message is left to the interpretation of each one of us.

From birth we enter in a learning stage, and we’ll begin to create new experiences, all this will influence who we’ll be in the future and the development of our personality.

When we grow up many things change and as adults, we must fend for ourselves. Our responsibilities become more complicated, and not everything is as easy as it seems. We must learn to be strong. We can achieve wonderful things.

Life, joy , human mind, family, our job, our hopes, , expectations, our decisions, how the world is not perfect, and how life is sometimes like the hide and seek game, are some of the topics that you would find in this book.

The author reminds us that sometimes it’s very easy to hurt people with words and insults. Many times, that can create scars and damage relationships with our loved ones. One of my favorite chapters was the 4 "Isolation and Loneliness", especially regarding the theme of the family, I know that when you read it, you will feel identified with the words of the author.

I’ll leave you here some quotes that I liked a lot and highlight while reading:

“Once you learn how to ride that bike, you will never forget. That power is the gift of learning and doing during the innocent years of life”

“Most people have enough religion to hate but not enough to love.”

“To know things is to be educated. To know others is to be wise. To know yourself is to be found!”

What are we looking for in life? What is our purpose of existence? Why do we hide in some situations and prefer to avoid them than face them? Why do we hide who we are? Why do we always forget to take care of our mental health? They were some of the questions that this book left me and I have not stopped thinking during the day, maybe if you read it you would find more.

Believe me that in less than 200 pages the author manages to leave you reflecting and with a feeling of hope and motivation.

If you have the opportunity to read it please do it, it’s so worth it.

Author Xavier Hernandez takes readers through the different stages of life, explaining the changes that people undergo and discussing why transition is important. In his thought-provoking book, he uses the analogy of the children’s game Hide and Seek to discuss the complexities of life and the nature of human beings. Hernandez’s writing style is engaging and gives the reader a sense of belonging. The author talks not only about his experiences but also about his observations and hypothetical situations. Reading this intriguing book will get readers thinking about everything they have to appreciate in life and make them more aware of what they are seeking in their hearts.

The author lets readers into his world as he talks about family, work, culture, and other personal things. He is open to the readers as he shares the knowledge, wisdom, and insight he has gained over the last forty years. In On The Turning Away: The Real Life Hide & Seek, readers are shown some of the realities that impact life and inhibit growth at times. The author then inspires readers to reach for greater heights and to fulfill the dreams they have kept hidden away inside themselves. Hernandez wants to help readers develop a positive view of life. The author discusses what ails human beings and the activities one can take to become a better version of themselves.

The writing style used is straightforward and conversational. The author’s tone is considerate and he is thoughtful in his writing and encourages readers to embrace the changes needed to achieve their own goals.

On The Turning Away: The Real Life Hide & Seek is an inspirational book that will resonate with readers in all stages of life and from all demographics. This is an excellent reference if you are a student aiming for the corporate world, married, planning on starting a family, advancing your career, or going through a transition in your life.

Anecdotes, analogies, and advice.

A quick read in the style of a traditional raconteur. Filled with jokes along the lines of “a guy goes into a bar…” concluding with a moral. Could you get offended from some of these anecdotes? Yes. Will you disagree will some of the analogies conclusions? Yes. Could you oppose the advice advocated by the author? Yes. Today people are quick to take offense. Open you mind, listen to diverse opinions. As the author states: “we are all children, except we are much older now. If you are honest with yourself, are you that much different now than when you were a child?” If you only listen to what you already believe you cannot expect to be better than you already are. Again the author states: “There is nothing more satisfying to human beings than the opportunity to correct one another or point out each other’s faults.” I challenge you to read this book in its entirety before finding fault or taking offense. Your inner child will thank you
