The White People Show

Rate this book
With over two decades of teaching college racism classes and from personal experiences, Kenyatta has discovered almost 99% of people cannot correctly define racism. The result is needless and useless arguments which lead to confusion.

This book will help you understand the meaning of racism, and it will give you clarity about what racism is not. Kenyatta not only delves into its meaning , but exposes its secretive early beginnings, and discusses its surprising purpose. He then shows how it impacts our lives today. “My purpose here,” says Kenyatta, “ is to bring clarity to a topic that has become muddy, unclear and crammed with confusion.”

The White People Show acts as a corrective to the recent spate of books centering racism and its solution of anti-racism. This clear and concise book from Professor Kamau Kenyatta will reset the conversation about racism. The challenge with some of the literature concerning racism is the lack of a crystal clear definition. So what we get, are authors equating racism with hate, bias, prejudice and discrimination. There is no such equivocation here! Professor Kenyatta not only states his definition, but shows us through ample examples and samples from his own life, while adding on the historical arm to illustrate that the only accurate definition of racism is; “By definition, and in a nutshell, racism is the belief that white-skinned people are superior to those who are not white-skinned.” p. 29

This is obviously problematic for many people, as it sounds like a demerit allegation. It may be an indictment, but it certainly isn’t unearned and without merit, and the historical record is with Professor Kenyatta. “For example, the historical record shows that the only group to hold the belief that they were superior to others based on their skin color are those who classified themselves as white-skinned.” P. 35.

And it is that historical record that is the salient piece of this work. As Professor Kenyatta fastidiously works from the how to the why, using the when and the where. He takes readers through the initial demonization of Afrikan people to create a “white people’s fantasy world.” The weaving together of all those elements is necessary to provide the reader with irrefutable and indisputable evidence of Professor Kenyatta’s racism definition. You will come away armed and ready to engage in serious and meaningful conversations about racism. This is your personal guide to enter the debate. Well done Mr. Kamau Kenyatta!

I think this is a great starting point for a discussion about racism with like minded individuals. I did like that the author made it very clear that speaking to people who don’t believe in racism aren’t worth speaking to.
