Arrgh this book drove me nuts.
It crawled along and told me on nearly EVERY page that the H was a mafia don and was in the mafia and that the h was a cop.
Then it finished on a cliff-hanger and there are two more books.
Really if could have been one longer book without all the unnecessaries!

I do appreciate that perhaps the author was trying to establish a relationship between the H and h but it got tiresome.

Not sure if I am interested enough to read books 2 and 3.

Pretty sure from other books mafia families refer to it ( the mafia) as the family?

Savage Lies: A Dark Mafia Romance (Marchetti Mafia Book 1) by Brook Wilder is a dark, suspenseful mafia romance story that is full of danger, passion, secrets and revenge. The complex dark, raw interaction between Roman and Ilsa will pull you in from the first page. When Ilsa Petrova goes to a club with her friend Naomi she winds up on the auction block and draws the attention to a dark, sexy mysterious man who is about to turn her life upside down. Ilsa is a police detective with a troubled past who wants to take down Don Roman Marchetti of the Marchetti Mafia family, but she is also seeking revenge on the men who murdered her father and mother . When Roman buys her, he thinks he knows her and now he will begin to show Ilsa by force what it means to be owned by him. Will Roman be able to break this feisty, sassy woman as they go head to head when she learns who he is? As these two are getting closer the passion between them is explosive, Roman finds he is becoming attached to Ilsa but will he lose her when she learns the secret that he is keeping from her? The more time Ilsa is with Roman she is slowly falling in love with this dangerous man who has a soft side to him, will everything she thought she knew end up destroying her?

This is a compelling suspenseful story with many twists and turns as Roman is on the verge of starting a war with the Russian Bratva to avenge his father's murder, trying to reign in his twin brother Franco from causing problems as well as Ilsa learning the truth about her parents. With all of the confusion and mayhem we are left with a cliffhanger as we have to wait for the next book to learn what happens between these two .

Wow....what a read! I absolutely loved this book. A Mafia read that is unique and not the "read and repeat" that so many authors have reverted too. This author penned a story that has an underlying "love story" that is compelling and well thought out using the backdrop of LA and the mob. There are so many things that can go wrong for these two people before the end of the trilogy but as a reader I am "cheering them on". It restored my desire to continuing reading books in this genre. I had been on a dry spell for awhile. The story of Isla and Roman reeled me in from the first page to the last. I can't wait for the next release in a week. Thank You Ms. Wilder for synchronizing your release dates within a month of each other in this trilogy instead of months' between releases.

Such a great story with so many layers of suspense, action and great sex that had my panties on fire. Thank you Ms. Wilder for thinking outside of the box and coming up with a plot that is unique and has engaging characters. This story to date is far from the normal "auction acquisition" novel. There is plenty of backstory, (but not overdone) and plenty of angst and heart pounding scenes that tests each character's ability to maneuver through the chaos that is all around them.

I highly recommend this trilogy. You won't be sorry.

Fantastic start to a new trilogy! I loved Savage Lies! Roman and Ilsa are great characters with great chemistry but will they survive all the secrets, lies, and deception? I loved all the conflicts between them, a complicated past and being natural rivals. I liked that Ilsa was a detective and how she enjoyed her job. She was also a spitfire and willing to speak her mind. I do wish it hadn't have moved so fast with the insta-infatuation. I would have loved to see her fighting Roman a little more. I'm excited for the next book and overall really liked these characters and story line. Brook Wilder did a great job with this story it is intriguing and entertaining and also keeps you guessing.
It is well written with an easy flow to the writing. It sucks you in right from the start! I can't wait for more! It's a great start to an interesting story and I would definitely recommend it!

Action packed a triple mafia war between the Mexican cartel, the Bratva and the Italian mafia. Roman's men betray and desert him. His alliances are broken by betrayal and he and Ilsa are attacked by assassins There are multiple murders all over the city. It is an all-out gang war. Roman and Ilsa are in deep in trouble. Alone with no one to trust but each other they plan for revenge. Even though there is danger at least love still blooms. Sh#t hits the fan for Roman and he tries to push Ilsa away. She refuses to leave his side. He relents. It reminds me of Bonnie and Clyde. Excellent book best of the trilogy. A must read.

Reason I liked this book:
Action packed
Cruel
Page-turner
Realistic
Scary
Steamy
Tragic
Twisted
Unpredictable
Wonderful Characters

Conversation

This book is basically an introduction to what the author plans to cover in this trilogy. Most of the writing covers the thoughts of the characters, reminiscences of their past, what the future will hold and how to handle a budding romantic relationship. There isn't ant darkness or action in this book except Ilsa being purchased at auction by Roman. The police woman bought by the mafia don. Of course he takes the virginity of the 25 year old Ilsa and develops feelings even though he is responsible for the death of her parents. Fluff and filler around these circumstances make up book one. I skipped a lot in order to stay awake.

Great start to a new trilogy! Ilsa is at a charity auction with her friend Naomi. As a cop, Ilsa realizes they are in the midst of a mafia club and takes Naomi’s place in the auction. Roman is the head of the Marchetti family and wins the bid on Ilsa. Even though they are on opposing sides of the law, you can see their relationship becoming more than an instant attraction. This is a well written, fast paced book. ARC provided by author for an honest review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

When Ilsa goes out with her friend Naomi, she soon realizes Naomi has just stepped into a very dangerous situation. Now she has to step up and take her friend's place, but things are about to get very difficult when Roman decides he wants her.... Entertaining read, well written, and great characters.

Insta lust/love!
The h, for a police detective has the spine of an overcooked noddle.

There's very little story or plot building. The side character are clichê and cartonish.

Highly enjoyable read

Ilsa thought she was doing a good deed for her friend by taking her place . Little did she know that she was caught by the son she was going to be investigating . Both come with secrets that can shatter them both .

It really pissed me off how the FL started off strong and badass af and then progressively became a meek and pathetic cardboard cutout of how she was initially portrayed to be.

And what was the plot even? *sigh*

Loving this series so far!

This is book one of the Marchetti Mafia series so be prepared for a cliffhanger ending. Roman and Ilsa's story continues in book two, Hateful Truth and I can't wait to see what happens next for these two.

This heroine is not as irritating as her best friend who was the heroine in the follow-up series to this: Belaya Bratva…..at least for now. So that’s a huge plus. I like both the H and the h so yeah, I’m intrigued to know where this story goes.

The writing was a bit subpar at times, but all in all, it wasn’t a bad entry.

And yeah, I know I’m not reading the series in order in this universe. But aside from a bit of confusion here and there when they refer to characters I’m supposed to have known already, I’m able to fully understand the plot.
