Twenty-two tiny tales that focus in on fairy tales.
How does it feel to choose a bride at a ball? Why might you use a forbidden key? What is a gingerbread house really like? How does killing flies make you a hero? Why take a baby to pay back a debt?
These little stories are a joy to read. I rationed them so I could savour each snippet. Cleverly written with a witty, warm voice giving some unexpected and fun insights into well known fairytale characters.
What a fantastic little read this is. Claire Watts has taken well know fairy-tale and asked the writer's question 'what if?' to explore fairy-tales from a different angle. Twenty two tales in the 'tell it slant' tradition. What a treat it was to read and I hope that there are more in the pipeline.
