The 38th volume of the Murder Most Vile series was as engrossing as other books by Robert Keller. These killers are from all walks of life. Most unfortunately found their victims within close proximity. How horrible for the victims within that the person who ended their life was someone they knew. Some of the murderers were parents, husbands, close friends, stalkers, widows, and servants. There were despicable pedophiles whose debauchery was disgusting. Sometimes fires were used to try to cover up their crimes. How can parents be so callous toward their own children? A few formidable females killed as savagely as their male counterparts. People wore mask that slipped and revealed the beast inside. It's frightening how the compulsion of some Killers make their barbaric actions even more disturbing. It was scary how some of the murderers didn't need a gun or knife to end the lives of their victims. They're seething anger made their hands lethal weapons.
As I looked to see which books I'd read, owned, and still plan to read I came up with these factss. I have read the following Murderers Most Vile volumes 1 - 14, 30 - 37 (and just now volume 38). Then I own 14, 30-36, 38, 41, 42, 43.
I've deliberately decided not to read them all within a short time frame. So I always have one of his books to read whether it's Murder Most Vile or one of his equally enjoyable other true crime series. I've often listened to one of the books as I drive to work, then I have to sit in the parking lot for a few more minutes until I hear the end of case I've been riveted to. I've had students knock on my car window to ask me why am I just sitting in the car and not going inside the building?
Thanks Mr. Keller for hours of entertainment with more to come.
The "Murder Most Vile" series is made up of quick read TC anthologies containing cases involving various geographical places and different eras. This provides all sorts of fodder for obscure crime stories. Volume 38 has several chapters about spousal murder which I find very interesting. One aside, Keller's books are usually very well edited but this one had lots of typos! Not what I've come to expect from him.
This book definitely the reader's attention. A truly interesting book and well written. While the murders within these pages are horrific, some will keep even the most hardcore true crime enthusiast up at night. Definitely a must have for the true crime enthusiast's library.
Another book full of horrible people doing horrific deeds. There are so many crazy people who are not treated for their mental illness that Mr Keller has an unlimited resource for future books. These are the solved murders, who knows how many unsolved ones are out there.
As always Mr. Keller has done it again! He’s one of my favorite authors. And he’s able to keep you in gauged without putting his personal opinion in. Which allows you to look at it and make it yourself. If you are looking for a good read look no further!1
Most, but not all, of these eighteen murder stories involve husbands killing wives, wives killing husbands and even a mother killing her baby son. It is said that most murders are actuated by someone one knows. But it is so hard to digest that people who should love each other, plot the death of a member of their own family. This is another excellent volume in the series including all stories that I am unfamiliar with. It is engrossing reading, but the whole book carries with it unceasing sorrow.
