Apocalypse Girls #2

Operation Iron Valkyrie

Rate this book
It’s been seven days since the demons invaded.

Seven days since they set the world on fire and put humanity on a fast track to extinction.

Now, the girls and I are shooting across a war-torn landscape in our Black Hawk, headed for what’s left of Reston, Virginia. Our mission: retrieve vital intel buried somewhere deep behind enemy lines—intel we’re going to use for one hell of a world-wide counterattack.

I’m hopeful we can pull this off, but I’m not delusional. The enemy will outnumber us by the millions the moment our boots hit the ground, which practically guarantees some or all of us won’t be coming back.

Suicide mission or not, we’ve got to try.

We’ve got to take back our planet while there’s still something left to take back.

Mission update to follow. Standby for the next transmission at 2100 hours.

This is Captain Isaac Williams, Force-Recon, signing off.

Good fun

Good second book in the series. Very slow burn harem of course so limited sexy time. The fun part of course is the demon's the fighting and upgrading technology which there was a little. Lots of fighting of course but only A little bit of upgrading Halfway through the book. But it showed hints and promise of more research.. Obviously the best stories have good people And it seems most of the characters in this series are well fleshed out and unique. Each has it's own personality and contribution. Obviously I would be more happy if The protagonist And his group Were able to be more active than reactive but maybe With some of the gains in this book that will be happening in the future. Looking forward to the next book to see what happens.

An excellent series!!!

This is the best science fiction series in this genre bar none!!! What an incredible apocalyptic world the author has created!!! Powerful fun characters, incredible character interactions and great adult fantasy activities!!! Just wish we didn't have to wait so long between books but its worth the wait!!!!

These days it seems like a lot of harem series are quick on the draw. Maybe readers are impatient these days, I am not sure. You get from A to B, C, and D character-wise very quickly, and that is fine as far as things go, but it is nice sometimes to take things slower. I find with some books the personalities of the girls are hard to discern. An author has only has so much page time, so you tend to get a group of blank slate girls rather than 2 or 3 very well fleshed out girls.

But Lucas Webber has decided to take a slower path, and I like it.
In book 2 Webber takes things slowly. He continues to flesh out the 3 girls he introduced us to in book 1. And while in book 1, they were fleshed out with the quick broad strokes you would expect, in book 2 he adds more detail.

We have Natsuki - a Japanese scientist and all-around big brain beauty. Very analytical. Doesn't really believe in soul mates and spiritual stuff. In a very funny passage, she explains to the captain that she experimented in college.... literally experimented! She determined that she was a 1 on the Kinsey scale (0 being heterosexual and 6 being lesbian). But she didn't really have time for men, she was all work and almost no play.

Her co-worker at the lab was Sophie. Natsuki assesses Sophie as a 2 on the Kinsey scale. She is the girl with the overactive sex drive. But has perhaps had a wild past, or has some skeletons in her past, so she has been keeping men romantically at a distance. She is the nurse of the group.

And finally, we have Amber, the girl on the cover. She is the sporty one. The adrenalin junkie. Loves extreme sports.

I feel like the author is trying to bring these 3 in as realistic a way as possible. So there are emotional backstories, and scenes of character development that might make some people want to rush through and get to the action. But I like it.

There is a 4th girl. Liz the helicopter pilot. But she acts more like "one of the guys" or a "wingman" to the protagonist. She performed that job in book 1, and continues that here. I think she serves as a woman outside the core group that gives a sort of "okay" to the rest of the characters that the Captain has to deal with. Liz, being female friends with all 3 of the girls involved with the group, I think her continuing support for the growing "unconventional" relationship will be a way to realistically come together in a "harem".

Again, it is a slow burn on the harem front, but with lots of character development and one very steamy scene that readers will enjoy.

But the other elements that make book 1 stand out are there. You have this suit technology.. which sort of matches the look of the suits from Gantz, with what is basically techno-magic, and upgrades. It would have been very easy for Lucas Webber to turn this series into LitRPG. It has that vibe.
Upgrades for his base are coming along nicely as well.

I really look forward to book 3.

Big thumbs up from me!

OUT-EFFING-STANDING!

I really dig these hard lot books, and can't read enough of them. This series is by far the best I've read. Not only does it have super kickassery, it has the one thing that is the closest and dearest to my heart. The United States Marine Corps. As a retired Devildog, I can't get enough of it. I all comes together in this book and the previous one. Anybody who likes the harem side, battles against humongous odds (that's a given in Marine Corps battles throughout history), fantastic military sci-fi and of course the USMC will really dig this book and the others in the series. I hope Mr Webber keeps pumping this series out, because I know I can't get enough. Semper Fi, Get Some!!!

So the demons want a war.

As far as our marine captain Isaac is concerned bring it. It's what he was trained to do. Add in three sexy women, with alien armor and a sentient piece of armor you have a chance. So now we take the fight and do what we do best, survive. The next mission awaits are you ready to stand and deliver.

Oops!

I meant to give a 5 star rating to WINGS OVER MARSEILLE and to APOCALYPSE GIRLS BOOK 1 but somehow I returned both books without it. The military parts are very believable and the sex is wonderful without being over the top. I hope book 3 of APOCALYPSE GIRLS comes out quicker than SOON.

Good hard military sci-fi

Very well written story with good details. The illusions cast by Morgana were, to me, hard to reconcile. The relationship building, both physical and spiritual, as well as the psychological parts of the story were very interesting.

Hard headed sci-fi Apocalyptic War Story

Engaging graphic prose with just the right amount of sex and humor to keep it interesting. A fast paced crazy heroic ride!
