I use clicker method and I can only recommend to go for a workshop (one day is all enough) to learn the essentials. It was (lucky me) my approach - I read the books afterward. I would have been very difficult to understand the point about correct timing and how to structure a new lesson/trick. I'm not saying it's impossible to learn it froma book but if you don't want to get dissapointed by the clicker method (becuase you'll make mistakes in the beginning, also with the workshop I did them) let someone experieced show you.
