Part of an upcoming series. The first half of this first book introduces the reader to both the Protagonist in Roze and Antagonist in Hydra. The opening 200 pages are character driven as A.L Berggren crafts her characters through a number of years detailing how they have become who they are.
The 2nd Half of the book really ramps up the storytelling as the crime elements begins to take over and A.L Berggren handles the transition from almost a character led to plot led story very well.
With an enchanting hero in Roze and one of the most twisted villains I’ve read in the despicable Hydra, Berggren has allowed her imagination to run wild in this vibrant and vividly written thriller that could gather something of a cult following.
It’s Fresh and modern but also with dark themes including abuse and slavery that can be disturbing but this feels like a book that could be targeted at a young adult reader but also the most avid of crime reader.
I’m intrigued to read more of this quite compelling and extraordinary story."

As a child, her stories were created through any means around her, such as; Lego worlds, Barbies, dressing up, pretend play, drawings, writing or paintings. Every day she would create a new story in her head, and she still does, wherever she is; at home, on the tube, in the car, at work or with friends and family - there are no limits on how much you can spice up everyday life if you have a little fantasy and creativity in you!
A.L. Berggren wrote her first book as a four-year-old, "The Birthday Party". The second book got written with her best friend as an eight-year-old called "The Hijackers", which hopefully entertained the classmates at "fun hour" a little.
Then a busy life happened, building a career within IT, moving to London, travelling the world, running guest lists at various clubs in Soho, then eventually settling down, getting married and having two amazing daughters. For a short while, she even got into Stand-up Comedy, never with the intent to work as a comedian full time but to be creative and learn something new. Storytelling kept being part of this life, in the form of customer case studies and presentations, daily good night stories to the girls, comedy material, or to cheer up a friend with something fun. Photography has also always been part of her life as an alternative way to tell a great story.
From 2012 until now, throughout a breakup, divorce, being a single mother, a full-time job and a hideous family court experience, A.L. Berggren started to write a fictional story - The Secret of the Crying Minds. However, it wasn't until June 2020, during Corona lockdown and after being abruptly furloughed, that she finally challenged herself to become a published writer. At this stage, the story had developed into a series of five books. The second book: The Hunt of the Crying Minds, followed already in December 2020 and the third book: The Battle of the Crying Minds, will be published in autumn 2021.

Berggren finds inspiration in everything around her, such as experiences, people, news, cultures. art, music, relationships, politics, books, observations, debates, cultures, films, and life’s magical moments. Injustice, entitlement, and abuse make her blood boil which inspires significant parts of her darker writing.
A.L Berggren strongly believes in doing good now and that every little help to make a positive change. Therefore, she donates 15% of all book profits to selected charities close to her heart. Currently, she works exclusively with the charity Do Good Now to support them in their phenomenal work against modern slavery and building a safe house and education centre in Nepal for trafficked victims.

The Secret of the crying minds blew my mind off, hats off to the author's imagination and the ability to create an interesting and engaging plot.
The main characters are Hydra and Roze.
Hydra is a misogynist psychopath who wants to create an army of Mind Slaves (aka submissive women) to create a world order or a real life game in which women have no rights and he can fulfill his sadistic intentions.
Roze is a gifted girl, she has extraordinary powers.
"She could hear people’s thoughts; she could feel people’s emotions; she saw things that no one else picked up on."
As Roze grows up, she realizes that she has more powers and she learns to control them, but how did she get these powers?
Meanwhile Hydra succeeds in creating an army of Mind Slaves and starts using Viola, a History Professor at Roze's school for his first big plan. Will Roze be able to find out who is controlling Viola?
The book is gripping and kept me hooked. Hydra's childhood including an abusive mother and a dysfunctional family makes his character more understandable. Reading about early lives of Hydra and Roze felt like two opposite ends of the spectrum. The book has a huge potential to be made into a web series, it has all the right elements for it. I wished that Hydra and Roze crossed paths in the book but I guess it will happen in the sequel. A beautiful and unique story of two wholly different characters, a boy named, Hydra and a beautiful girl, Roze.
The book is set in the year from 1980 to 2008. Hydra is born in 1980 and had faced many worse experiences in life. He has been abounded by people and has faced many betrayals from women which made him develop hate for women. His bad experience makes him mentally ill and he tries to control women.
On the other hand, our sweet girl Roze lived with her father and nanny. She is just 14 and has already lost her mother. One fine day, she gets to know that she has been gifted and now she is all set to protect the nation with her powers.
The main part is to know how these characters will cross paths and how would the story take turns after that?
I would say it's a must-read book for all thriller lovers which will make you automatically turn the pages. Its character development, plot arrangement is worth reading. I love this book.

" The Secret of the Crying Minds " by A.L. Berggren is a beautifully written book, with a complex, interesting plot and some great characters. The plot is thoroughly engaging and keeps a cracking pace from start to finish. The Antagonist gaming addicted psychopath Hydra, making an army of mind slaves, and the Protagonist Roze who has some powers. The author's writing style draws you into this world and makes you believe. One could say that the twists were nothing new but how she introduced them kept this book thrilling and I found myself never knowing what to expect; which was enjoyable. I loved how Berggren interpreted a psychological thriller story; especially how hydra becomes this evil. This book covers a set of different emotions. I loved this book. I enjoyed Hydra and Roze. I loved the experiments the author did and the risks she took with a new concept. But mostly I loved the idea of this book. I will definitely read the next parts of the series.

Good read, but definitely not for the timid. The author wisely lets the reader be privy to the thoughts running through the villain Hydra’s mind, past and present. Hydra’s mindset is not by any means a pleasant one. But, even though the reader can’t condone Hydra’s horrific violence, he or she understands how Hydra came to be so cold and detached. We also spend a great deal of time in gifted young Roze’s head, who makes us understand that being “special” isn’t always a joyful experience, and can sometimes be a heartbreaking, frustrating burden. If you are looking for a book that delves deep into the issues of child abuse, ethics, and morality, accompanied by just the right blend of suspense and action, I highly recommend The Secret Of The Crying Minds.

The story of this book revolves around characters named Hydra and Roze. Hydra is a misogynist psychopath that wants to create a world where an army of Mind Slaves (aka submissive women) are given no rights and with whom Hydra can fulfill its lustful intentions.
Roze is an extraordinary girl with incredible powers, and gradually she's also learned to control her powers. As the story progresses, Hydra succeedes in its plan and begins using Roze's school history professor Viola for its first big plan. And with this the story gets even more interesting.
- will Roze ever find out who is controlling the Viola?
- Will we find out further in the story how and why Roze found her powers?
The answers to all of these questions will find you while reading the story. And also when you learn about Hydra's childhood, her upbringinging and her dysfunctional family you will understand his character. Also how Roze's upbringing made her fit.
I loved the story and the writing style of the author is also great.I am eagerly waiting for the sequel.Hope the author writes it soon.

The story is set between 1980 to 2008. “The boy”- Hydra, who was born in 1980 becomes mentally unstable because of the people around him including his parents. His bitter youth experiences with women surrounding him make him hate all women. He becomes evil and a psychopath who likes to kill even animals cruelly.
Roze, a gifted girl who has an extraordinary power. She knows that but hides it from her parents until an incident in her school when she is 14 years old. Now, the British secret security services come to know that what they planned is started giving results. She can see the future and tries to save others. Meanwhile Hydra develops an army of Mind Slaves.
The story has an amazing storyline. The character development was good. The author gave the justifications beautifully about how one can get affected mentally due to the circumstances they are forced to be in. The character Hydra is portraited as a pure evil which was so scary to imagine about such person being in a real world. The one thing which I didn’t like in this book was the cruelty shown towards animals which was so disturbing. The book has a cliffhanger end. So, if you are okay with the trigger warnings and if you are into psychological crime thriller, then pick this up

A very handful of books have to power to satisfy your mind as crime fiction novel does, and when it's a endearing yet powerful Protagonist against an Evil vicious Antagonist, it's tough to set it aside and that's exactly what happened when i came across this book 'The secrets of crying mind ' by A.L Berggren.
Right from the first chapter I was keenly invested, it took me some time to comprehend the intricately detailed premise, but it just blew my mind as plot progressed.
With engaging storytelling, A.L Berggren swirls you quickly into the central of the plot, the whole angle of mind reading ability of Roze was masterfully sculpted into story along with painting vivid picture of Hydra on how he was brought up in an abusive home, hidden behind wealth and exceptional education shedding light on a psyche of an psychopath. The attention to detail to the characters was impeccable which made me truly connect with the book.
The gripping scenes one after the other had me barrelling towards the end.I was on the edge throughout because of the conflicts, twists and startling discoveries.There's a lot of information, adventure, suspense, intrigue and action packed with incredibly good writing.
4+ stars for this page turning goodness and unstoppable read

The story kicks off with Hydra and Roze. Hydra, being brought up in an oppressive family, has an obsession to manipulate women. Roze has to hide her unique skills from society. However, a sudden kidnapping case made it difficult for her to conceal her identity anymore. The story starts to unfold further.
Let me start with the amazing title that the author has picked up for this book. The title has the power to make your mind intrigued and curious. Because after all, the book is all about our minds. The fast-paced narration and the innumerable turns and twists will make sure that you finish the book within one or two seating.
The characters are very well etched out which gives the book strong support. The emotional dwelling, the nail-biting climax, and the unique style of the author to narrate the story compels a reader to get hooked.

This book was given to me by a friend of the author with absolutely no indication of what this book was about or the kind of genre. She simply just gave it to me because she knew I love to read. I also went reading this book. I wasn’t expecting a lot of what happened to happen so quickly I think it’s just a style of writing that I’m not used to, but that doesn’t take away from the story being as good as it honestly is, sometimes I have to remind myself when reading the year that certain chapters are setting which sometimes can throw me but it was a really good book all around.
What I would recommend however for the writer is to put trigger warnings at the beginning of the book. Luckily I don’t have any but for some people who would pick up the book and find the blurb of the story interesting and then to read the horrors of what happens , on literally page 26 of the first book it might be a bit too much for some people to handle without a pre-warning beforehand of what triggers could be going on in the book.
That being said though it’s really interesting story where you constantly kept on your toes and the back-and-forth between different points of view is really interesting. Also what makes it really interesting for me is that I live or have lived in the areas and which are described in the book so that’s always a really nice feeling to be able to picture something so vividly and clearly .
What I would recommend however for the writer is to put trigger warnings at the beginning of the book. The story is really a tragic and sadistic one but triller at the same time. It's different to experience the dark and evil side of the world which definitely exists and we don't get to see and read about it in such a detail as we might be luck enough.
This story deals with two drastically different characters and the books is written from their perspectives in every chapter. He have Roze who has special powers and is a total angel . She oversees the future and just can't resist the force of helping other people. On the other hand we have hydra who had a really bad family experience which turned him into an absolute evil and psychopath .
Initially the book takes really long to develop a background of both the characters and how they matured and developed into their real self but after almost the second half when they finally developed they developed well and strong . Especially that of hydra he was like invincible and such a strong character so evil, so sadistic that it gave me goose bumps sometimes that people like him also exist.
What I liked about the book was the totally different personality of both the characters and how beautifully they have evolved both good and baad. It is like it gives you hope and happiness when you read about the character of roze and gives ypu equal amount of chills when you look at Hydra /"the boy" From day to start. But i think the character of hydra was justified and the reason why he was the person that he was, is also well explained in the book.
The special thing about the book was also that it is very detailed but yet it provides the information that is actually relevant and that keeps the reader engaged as there is no useless description given about anythings, only the things that have something to do with the protagonist and the story are only mentioned. So that was also a plus point while reading the book.
The actual story started with the kidnapping of a girl who faced a terrible end which was never ever imaged by me literally it was that bad . But not denying the fact that it was true to the reality and things like this actually happen ,which is such a shame to humanity . So this story gives a slight invite to the real life incidents in a little fictional twist which , so that’s something good .
The can be called fiction crime thriller with mind blowing story and easy language , a hell of a villain and a great character development and writing style . Can’t imagine that there is so much good in just one book . I anyways like crime thrillers but i swear i havent read anything like this before in my life .

I cannot recommend this book highly enough and my review below may make this book seem complicated and ridiculously deep (the themes I took from the crying minds) but this book is a very easy flowing read that will engage readers of any genre. YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!
Wow, just wow! Many like me, may have exhausted their bookshelves during lockdowns but A.L.Berggren has managed to bring a new and captivating psychological thriller to the table. Although classed as a psychological thriller, this book encompasses so many more genres; sci-fi, crime, coming of age etc. No reader will be left disappointed (apart from maybe having to wait for the next books!)
What may seem like a comfortable read with a slow start actually provides the background to a compelling comparison between impact of how a nurturing and loving upbringing can significantly alter a child’s future hidden within an enthralling novel. This poignant contrast between two childhoods even manages to give the reader, not just a depth of understanding but a degree of sympathy towards the antagonist despite some explicit scenes that truly show his depraved and distorted view on reality. The antagonist’s thought process is carefully written to detail the slow progression to becoming psychopathic with the reactions of negligent adults during significant childhood events, rather than alleviating his troubled mind, essentially solidify and manifest his vexed thoughts to create the unfeeling fiend that becomes the villain. With the world currently fascinated by serial killers and real life crime (thank you Netflix), the author has meticulously presented the slow progression from innocent child to the kind of twisted individuals on these programmes, answering not just the question of ‘what they did’ but ‘why?’
As the book progresses, you truly get caught up in the ride. The well thought out storyline gives just enough elegant links and twists to keep the reader hooked alongside Roze’s fascinating development. Roze growing up encounters similar hardships, anger, frustration and questions to the antagonist but by having caring people in her life, she can rationalise and process these emotions to remain pure of heart. Also showing that a traditional nuclear family is irrelevant concerning children’s upbringings when love is involved.
A.L.Berggren has perfected that fine line of story versus character development as well as connecting enough elements to satisfy curiosity on finishing the first book yet leave the reader hungering for the next instalment. This is definitely one of the emotional and scary books in have read so far. No. It's not a horror genre but the reality which takes place in the book was hard for me to fantom and appaled me to read what I knew was a reality in many homes.
" THE BOY " was a calm kid who wanted the attention of his parents, to talk to them, to share about what transpired in school and was expecting them to be just parents like anyone else around. But reality was far from what he ever wished for. The worse fact was that it was getting unbearable.
His father was constantly travelling, averse to the conditions of his kids at home, hardly spoke and was immersed in his own thoughts about changing the world. Little did he care if the world in his family was collapsing around him.
The boy saw two versions of his mother. A day mother and night mother. He was petrified of her and always tried to do everything to please her. But nothing was apparently enough. He slowly found solace in TV and video games. That became his new reality.
The author swaps between two stories consecutively. This is the story of ROZE who lost her mother during her birth. But she was fortunate to have a loving father Simon, caretaker Xinea and momor - her biological mothers mother.
All seemed to be well untill it wasn't. She was different from most people around and was haunted with nightmares at night which made her cry and wince in pain.
What was the reason for this recurring nightmares ?
How are these two stories related?
Will their paths cross ?
The BOY is now nursing a growing HYDRA in him. What will happen to ROZE and her emerging powers ?
Do read this well written book where the author make sure to keep the suspense and crave for more. Its a well written book and the plotline and the suspense keeps one to turn the pages. I'm happy to have finally read a genre of this kind after a long time. Recommended.

📖The book is full of colourful character sketches with a touch of emotional canvas to give the readers of this masterpiece a familiar charm. The characters are all fantastically portrayed and leaves you wanting to know more.
📖As a debut this book is well worth the read. It is a dark, twisting story that follows the two main characters Hydra and Roze which to begin with are described in detail before the story unfolds.
📖This story is about Roze, she is quite different and is secretive of her unique skills.
After a tough start in life, Roze is growing up in London, unsure why she has such a high EQ and mind-reading abilities. She conceals her unique abilities until a local girl is abducted, at which point she must reveal his abilities.
📖Hydra, on the other hand, was raised in an oppressive family and is obsessed with finding new ways to exploit people, despite her wealth and excellent education.

The Secret Of The Crying Minds - A.L Berggren, has definitely ensured that she is here for a long time and with this book, i think and hope she should be acclaimed worldwide. I mean the book is intense, gripping, emotional, with shallow and well depicted characters. The author has made sure that even the villain of the story is in absolute character till the end. The story revolves around two main and opposite characters Roze & Hydra. I mean look ta these names, such uncommon and unique. Roza on one hand is a simple sober, introvert girl who is being raised in UK. Outside she is shy, introvert, pretty, with innocent looks whereas inside she has hidden exceptional EQ and mind reading abilities. She is never flaunting her unique prowess rather she is simply a 14 year old happy go lucky type girl until the day when a local girl in her neighborhood gets kidnapped. On the other side of the story and character there is this boy named Hydra, who belongs to a very rich influential family and has exceptional education, and is a highly obsessed Gaming individual. He has been raised among abusive and disturbed family which has left a very deep impact in his mindset. As a result of which he is misogynist and has disturbed ideas for the opposite sex. He desires to create a world with submissive women who can fulfil all his fetish fantasies. So how would the two characters cross path . What happened to the kidnapped girl ? How is Hydra planning to make his evil plans a success. This book is a strong language, full of wild butterfly fantasies, gripping, yet appealing and talking about myself . honestly i was hooked on it. The Secret Of Crying Minds, is definitely going to my all time top 50 books.

The most Fantastic book I've read in a very long time is this one. Although the story is simple, it keeps you turning pages. The protagonist of the novel, "The boy," tries to capture his parents' attention at the beginning of the narrative despite the challenges he has faced since he was a little child. He was bullied by other kids even in his primary school, where he was forcibly locked in a cupboard.
He used to get two magazines every month. He used to love playing adventure games and collecting keyboard shortcuts. It allowed him to leave his old world and enter a new one. During his time in college, he experienced the same kind of bullying. eventually he became game developer also got indulged into the secret service with his brainwashed and corrupted mind, he kept growing in the new world of black web.
The another character whose name was decided due to a mark on her neck, Roze, She sadly lost her mother during her birth; eventually, xenia and her father took care of her.The plot eventually moves along, and Roze uses her skills and power to begin looking for Hydra. He was constructing and was about to carry out a significant big plan, which must be neutralised. She started following him online via tracing his dark web activities. Where this quest will lead to? Read the book to know further plot of the story.
Thanks to character development and each character's unique past, I'm confident you will be able to experience the story from the views of a variety of different people. The book includes numerous illustrations to highlight the implications of biotechnology, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and addictive video games.
This cover looks great, and the title appears to fit it just so. The author's superb writing style made me want to read more from her, eagerly waiting for the next part.

The ending ties up the plot line with unanswered questions leaving you wanting the next book of the series as early as possible.

Two contrasting characters, Hydra and Roze are brought up in a totally different familial environment. Roze is bestowed with a loving family, high EQ and the ability to read human minds. While Hydra has a disturbing childhood with both his parents being insensitive towards him. With gradual oppression, he turns into a sadistic and evil person. He finds pleasure in sexual exploitation and playing mind games with his fellow males and esp females.
I love reading psychological thrillers, and this one is embedded with the horrendous crime a person can commit. The characters are well distinguished and sorted. The different facets of persona has been aptly represented through these characters. While some are full of love and sympathetic, others can be truly gruesome and torturous with no mercy at all.
The story started with different timelines and places for both the characters, but eventually collided at some instances.

A unique storyline mentioned in the book description forced me to get my hands on this book. It's really difficult to describe in words, how much I enjoyed this novel and how much I liked the plot. The story is unique, full of unexpected events and suspense that kept me interested till the end.
There are so many things I loved about this book - the intriguing plot, the characters, the unfolding story with great twists and turns, also the backstory allowing you to understand the emotions. What sold me most was how deeply I fell in love with the characters. Every character is so beautifully portrayed and the character development is done wonderfully and I know they'll stay with me for a good long time. Also the tension in this book is through the roof. It's one of those books where you tell yourself you're going to stop for a while, then you give in and read one more chapter because you can't stop THERE, and then somehow two hours have passed. The absorbing plot and engaging characters kept me enthralled.

The protagonist Rose had a tough childhood always trying to fit in hiding her strength and skills of mind reading. But she is had to step up when a young girl is abducted by a psychopath Hydra. As Rose becomes a new age MI5 agent, she caught in a fight against sadistic women hater and game developing psychopath, Hydra.
The story focuses on social issues, such as evil lurking in our society luring in innocents, along with the thrill of chasing down the murderer.
I dig the writing style and storytelling it worked for me, the plot was edgy with the element of danger and surprise that kept me up past my bedtime.
The writing is stimulating and fast paced moreover it's presented beautifully as well making you turn the page at warp speed.
The narration was gripping, grueling and nail biting. Exquisite writing style and narration took right into the middle of London chasing Hydra. It was dark, enticing with complex characters and motive for the crime, plus the way Rose navigated, the investigation: CAPTIVATING and HEART POUNDING.
