Knowing and Believing in God’s Love: Exploring the Gospel of Christ in 1-3 John

Rate this book
John’s heart for the church is evident in every chapter of his letters.

John longs for the church to know the love of God, and for that love to mobilize them to love their neighbors.

Come away from the epistles of John with a renewed desire to abide in Jesus. It was John who recorded Jesus is long treatise on abiding (John 15) and here John emphasizes how we dwell with Christ by realizing that Christ dwells within us! This mutual abiding is the key to a transformed Christian life. I think it’s also why John mentioned in 1 John 4 That we must come to both know and believe God’s love. We can’t abide in Jesus by knowledge alone. Nor will we live with him daily if we merely believe in his existence with no intimate relationship. There must be both knowledge and faith, understanding and allegiance.

I hope this study opens your eyes to the love of God.

I have enjoyed all of Phylicia’s Bible studies! As someone who loses attention easily, I appreciate a study that requires me to write the answer and also look it up.

This one doesn’t necessarily tell you exactly what’s happening but it does guide you and get you to think about what’s going on.
I love that she always points to other scripture to back up and give more context to the current passage.

Just like her Revelations study, this was a very useful, commentary-inspired dive into 1-3 John. I always appreciate how Masonheimer offers multiple perspectives from scholars in her bible studies.

I'm excited to get my hands on her Leviticus study as soon as it's released!~

I really enjoyed this study! I liked that it wasn't divided into days or weeks -- that allowed me to go at my own pace without feeling like I'm behind. I'm gonna be honest, I'm a huge fan of Phylicia and the way that she teaches. She gives you the information but allows you to come to your own conclusions. At the end of this study I felt confident in my understanding of 1-3 John and felt that I retained a lot of the information.

Rated based on the category of Bible Studies. I would say good not great. I enjoyed it but wouldn’t rush out to purchase another one from her.

The questions were often so easy you’d question your answer.

I prefer Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, or the Daily Grace Co. studies I’ve done.
