Mary-Ann Flynn has always known that she could never have a normal life. Raised in the small town of Dungeness Hollow, population six thousand two hundred and fifty-one, and suffering from chronic panic disorder, she’s resigned to the fact that she’ll lead a quiet existence, working in the local hotel, rescuing dogs, and experiencing the world vicariously through her two best friends, Casey and Meg.
So she’s not anticipating a whirlwind romance with Hayes Somerson, a real estate magnate from Los Angeles. Hayes is everything she’s not—powerful, independent, and worldly. Their relationship could never work…Right? Mary-Ann thinks so. And when she panics at the airport and is unable to board the flight to meet Hayes in LA, Mary-Ann decides to break off their blossoming relationship before it goes any further. After all, it wouldn’t be fair to string him along when she may never be brave enough to overcome her fears and leave the Hollow.
There’s only one problem: Hayes isn’t prepared to let her go that easily…

Tess was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe. Her unusual childhood in a beautiful but tragic country was responsible for her deep love of everything fantastical and magical—including romance. When her thirst for adventures and travel brought her to California for university, she happened to meet her very own Mr. Darcy (slightly taciturn and all). Tess now lives with her husband in California, and when she’s not elbow-deep in some topsy-turvy world of her own creation, she can be found working out, meeting her friends for drinks (sometimes, after working out), and alternately binge-watching soppy rom-coms and Criminal Minds with her dogs, Teddy and Winnie.

A romantic story about two fragile souls that are meant to be. I loved the first book of the series so much I hardly waited for the second. The story take place in Dungeness Hollow, a place by the sea. I missed sone sea stories here but a tender story around Mary-Ann was romantic. Her man Hayes has a company of real estate in LA. But as a romance he wants to do all for this simple girl. The dog love brought them together. Afraid of anything I could simply relate to her. Instead to Europe they fo to Saattle and after a denial for the relation from Mary-Ann things somehow gets better.

This book, oh so good!
I love going back to Dungeness Hollow! Mary-Ann and Hayes have both been through a lot in their lives and they fell in love almost instantly. They still had some things to get through before the happily ever after, and their love story is just so good.
I still love the friendship part of this series. Strong female friendships are something I will always be here for.
I love the sneak into the characters from Tess’s other series.
If you are looking for a heartwarming book with some tears and giggles on the side, look no further.

[I received a digital arc for a honest review]

Spring Tide
is the second book in the Dungeness Hollow series by Tess Shepherd. The series follows a trio of best friends, and this one is the story of Mary. Mary and Hayes , first meet in the first book, and they have a long distance relationship because Hayes lives in LA and Mary in Washington. Also, because Mary has a chronic panic disorder and can't bring herself to leave then the hollow. When she fails to be able to go on a trip with Hayes she assumes their relationship is over, but he is committed to making it work with Mary. He meets the family and spends time helping Mary conquer her anxiety and fear of travel.

"Jesus, he wanted Mary-Ann like he'd never wanted another woman before."

I really enjoyed both Mary and Hayes as main characters, especially Hayes. He was just utterly swoon worthy, such a gentleman and undeniably in love with Mary. I felt for Mary, her anxiety was hard to read, but it was inspiring to see her push her against her comfort zones and not give up. Mary and Hayes have an insta love relationship, but this is a slow burn because Mary is a virgin and Hayes doesn't want to rush things with her until she's 100% believes in their relationship as he does. When they do come together intimately, it's very passionate and tender. There's also a bit of a mystery to the story surrounding where Mary's anxiety originates from, and it's slowly revealed. Both Mary and Hayes have emotional/tragic events in their past that have shaped them to who they are today.

Overall, Spring Tide was a sweet addition to the Dungeness Hollow series. With date nights, family visits, first times, and facing fears. There were also some cameos from the others other book series in this that put a smile on my face.

The Following is a Rant that solely as to do with the epilogue of the story:

When the main story ended, I was happy with Mary and Hayes story and was left thinking three things about the next book in the series.
One- Meg is the WORST
Two- How are the three childhood friends going to mend their relationship?
Three- Who does Meg end up with? The friend who's always been in love with her, or the brother she keeps disappearing with?

Then the epilogue happened, and I was disappointed to be told the answers to all of my questions. It completely took away most of the mystery of Megs story by telling me exactly who she ends up with. It left me salty and I personally think it should have been just about Hayes and Mary's wedding or maybe a pregnancy announcement, ANYTHING except for showing the three friends 3 years into the future all with their significant others and children when we haven't read book 3 yet.

Mary’s story is so sweet, but also full of past trauma. Hayes’ devotion to her is swoon worthy. We find out why Mary has a fear of leaving home and it’s heartbreaking. But with Hayes’ help and her newfound knowledge of her anxiety issues, she’s overcomes and moves forward. I’m so happy for Mary and respect her so much after working through everything she had to. Hayes is the perfect boyfriend, taking it slow and reading Mary like a book. These two are perfect for each other and I loved their story!

This book is: small town, steamy, emotional, family drama, strong female friendships, swoony hero

'A welcome dive back into the town and world of Dungeness Hollow, this time with a pair of outstanding, groundbreaking characters and their quirks

Thank you to Tess Shepherd for sending me an ebook Advanced Readers Copy for me to read and review. It's a pleasure to be a part of your ARC/promo team!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was first submerged feet first into the world of Dungeness Hollow with book one in the series, Jessie's Point. Jessie’s Point, where we were first introduced to the girls who would become the main focal point for each book. Of course, there would be a man involved, but it is nice to have a book with a leading female or have her issues/life be the centre point.

After reading Jessie's Point--which came with a difficult underlying storyline--I was looking forward to the next novel being a bit more lighter on the feels and emotions, and Tess delivers exactly that with Spring Tide. At least, in a different sense--a better sense!--, as thankfully all characters who begin the novel also finish it. That's lighter to me!

My biggest compliment to the book and to Tess as an author--which I have personally contacted her about and praised her for--is the character of Mary. SPOILER ALERT FOR THIS NEXT PART ONLY . Mary is an 'older virgin'. At least by the standard set by our real world society. We're not usually represented or referenced in the kindest of lights, often shamed for it even in books, but Tess had me practically weeping at how wonderfully Mary was written--not shamed--and how others, namely Hayes, treats her in regards to her situation. Especially--again like some of us--, when anxiety is involved. Mary's character is so like myself in her mannerisms, her personality and circumstances, the representation of her in this book really has me overflowing with gratitude. I've not resonated and attached to a character this closely and quickly for at least ten years, so I can't help but applaud Tess' magnificent writing to put Mary in such high esteem.

Moving on from Mary, can we please talk book crossovers!? OMG! I love it when characters from different novels, and series' in kind, have the opportunity to be featured in another book. I love it even more when you're least expecting it because of it being a different story altogether, you think there's no chance for one of your past favourite characters to pop up but here we are! If you've read my review of Public Trust, you'll know how much I L.O.V.E.D Lola & Jacob. Connect the dots. I'm still giddy over it!

Overall, I'm glad that with this read I can get more and more invested into the world of Dungeness Hollow. For a fictional place, I've fallen rather in love with it and its small-town life that encompasses the lives and journeys of its inhabitants. I was teetering in the middle after the emotional rollercoaster that was Jessie's Point, and I'm glad that like with spring itself, Spring Tide was a renewal of the hope I had in this series being a good one, giving new life and birth to the journey that Mary and Hayes would go down.

All that's left to say is, NEXT BOOK PLEASE TESS!!! <3

Honestly I have no idea how you do it, these books just get better and better every single time. It took me 24hrs from start to finish, and that says a lot for me.

With already so much build up for these already incredibly written characters, my excitement was already absolutely through the roof and Tess positively exceeded all my expectations. Hayes and Mary-Ann were my favorite side story from Jessie’s Point and I honestly felt every emotion from frustration to empathy to sheer rage when I read this book. The pure patience and understanding that Hayes gives Mary-Ann; he handles her in ways that other people don’t seem to comprehend and it is just so beautiful. For someone who is perceived as so big, he handles their relationship delicately and with such grace. I was very drawn to Frankie’s character when he was introduced, why was he so protective? What was his secret? Was he the problem? Will we ever know? Spoiler, you’ll know by the end. I also found myself internally shouting ‘Gage deserves his own happy ending’ because heck everyone loves a good hero and he just sounds like such a wholesome guy - he’s always been there for each of the girls in different ways at different times without question (thrilled to the find out that there is in fact a third book to the series that he’ll be the star of).
The cherry on the cake for me was the realization that Tess’ different series characters interlink. It quite literally blew my mind and it was such a testament to her writing. These books could easily be picked up as standalone novels but also as they are intended, as part of a series where you see a familiar name pop up and you automatically become part of a family you didn’t previously know existed.

Another to add to the collection from @author_tess.shepherd 💕 Spring Tide, book number two in the Dungeness Hollow series (it’s out this Friday) 💕 When I tell you this was long awaited after being gifted the first book, I had to get on Tess’ ARC list! There is nothing I love more than small town romance and close childhood friendships! Mary-Anne and Hayes’s relationship is one of my favourites and I love how he manages to diffuse every thought in her mind without even trying! They have the more difficult time on the road to love but it’s a journey I want to get behind and I am so glad I was able to read this ahead of release! Anything by Tess is a dream to read and I’m so glad my collection is growing! #bookstagram #review #tessshepherd

Mary-Ann Flynn has been battling a chronic anxiety disorder for as long as she can remember. Something which has hindered her ability to leave Dungeness Hollow, until she met Hayes. With Hayes, she feels safe and like she can overcome her struggle. However, Hayes’ life is very different from Mary’s, but their love proves that all obstacles are worth overcoming when meeting the one.

Spring Tide is the second instalment to the Dungeness Hollow series – after Jessie’s Point – and follows Mary-Ann on her journey to overcome the hardship faced from her anxiety disorder and allow her love blossom with Hayes. Through their relationship, Mary is able to grow and do things that she did not think she would. Before meeting Hayes, Mary would not travel outside of the state, but his encouragement and attentiveness shows Mary the way forward. Not only are Hayes and Mary falling in love, together they are helping Mary through her disorder. The relationship between Hayes and Mary is so cute to read on every single page! He is so supportive of Mary and constantly thoughtful which makes you clutch to the book as the cuteness progresses. I really enjoyed seeing the development in Mary through Hayes but also how she was able to come into her own individually (maybe with the little help of White Mamma No. 23 too). Even though their relationship might read as having progressed quickly, the amount of love and passion they have for each other truly does explain the pace as they are undeniably soulmates. I think this emotion did not lose its effect as the plot continued either, from start to end the reader will be in love with their love and not tire with their incredible compatibility. The characters compliment each other well and they remain true from their appearances in Jessie’s Point and throughout this novel.

The main thing that I absolutely loved, other than Hayes and Mary being perfect, was the continued exploration into the friendship between Mary, Casey and Meg. We are first introduced to the inseparable trio in Jessie’s Point and are not disappointed to learn even more in Spring Tide. It is clear that no matter where they are in life, they will always be there for each other and their infectious friendship is hilarious and heartwarming to read. In Spring Tide there is a scene towards the end of the novel, which I won’t divulge in spoiling, that adds realism to the friends. Friends fall out and friends forgive, but nothing will ruin their true friendship. There is also a very exciting part to read in this story where lovers of Tess’ previous novels will adore! Just like the girls in Dungeness Hollow, in the City of Dreams series, we are introduced to the Simmone family, who are also incredible and memorable characters. Having this little overlap really made my heart leap with joy as when reading Tess’ novels I typically do wish that they would never end and find that I can never get enough of the remarkable characters.

This is of course a 5 star read and one that I certainly do recommend, especially if you are a fan of Jessie’s Point. If you haven’t read that yet, then I also highly recommend that, alongside all of Tess’ other novels. There is also a novella to coincide with Spring Tide, which adds perfect detail and backstory to the revelation behind Mary’s anxiety disorder, her family, and Hayes. The secret was sensitively explored and I liked the way in how it was revealed to the reader, especially after hints in Jessie’s Point. It was definitely not rushed and everything was paced perfectly.

Spring Tide is book two is Tess Shepherd’s Dungeness Hollow series! It follows Mary-Ann Flynn who suffers from a chronic panic disorder, and has lived her life in fear of leaving her home in the small town of Dungeness Hollow. She’s been content living vicariously through her two best friend me Casey and Meg, untill shes blindsided by a whirlwind romance with Hayes Sommorson, a real estate mogul from Los Angeles. Mary-Ann is ready to face her fears and board a plane to meet Hayes in LA, but when the panic wins, she’s forced to deal with the heartache of losing Hayes. But Hayes isnt going to let her go that easily.

This was such an enjoyable read! Mary-Ann and Hayes have such a sweet romance. I found Mary-Ann to be an extremely relatable character. Her fears and anxiety running her life, and feeling like a burden to her friends is just so relatable to someone who also suffers from anxiety. I loved that Hayes was able to understand her anxiety and didn’t try to simply cure her, but was willing to love her panic disorder and all. I love the strong female friendship dynamic in this series as well, and I’m very much looking forward to reading Mainstay this summer and reading more about Meg.

I also love the way Tess wrirtes. I love that her omniscient style narration gives us glimpses into the lives of not only the main characters but side characters as well.

If you’re looking for a small town romance, with strong female friendships, that feels authentic and realistic look no further than Tess Shepherd’s Dungeness Hollow series!

Tess Shepherd is a master at creating a universe in her books that feels like a Netflix limited seires in book form. This book was no exception. As the second book in the Dungeness Hollow series, it very much felt like season 2. This book follows Mary Ann and Casey, whose meet cute we witnessed in Jessie's Point.
Their story is one that includes helping each other cope with strong phobias, a deep dive into their pasts to determine why those phobias exist, and coping with the information they gather during those deep dives. The twist as to the root of Mary Ann's phobia was not one I was expecting going into this book, but it was absolutely perfect for the character.
I cannot wait to read more in this universe and see how Meg gets her happily ever after. I also very much enjoyed the little Easter egg / cross over with another of Tess's series we were given at the end.
A masterful romance that takes the reader on quite the ride, and ties up in the requisite happily ever after beautifully. I strongly recommend this series for anyone who loves romance series that follow a group of lifelong friends finding their loves.

This is the second book in the Dungeness Hollow series and we follow Mary-Ann and Hayes. Mary- Ann was raised in a small town that she was never ventured out of. She suffers from panic attacks every time she tries to leave town, so she’s been content in never leaving Dungeness Hollow, until Hayes came into her life.

Hayes lives and works in LA. When Mary-Ann has a panic attack at the airport when trying to fly and meet him in LA, she has second thoughts about their relationship. He lives to far away and he’ll never want to settle in a small town. Hayes loves Mary-Ann, but will her fears pull them apart.
Hayes is the sweetest guy ever; he is patient and kind and helps guide Mary-Ann through her fears. I loved watching Mary-Ann grow as a character (not only is she dealing with her panic attacks - she’s quiet and has never been in a serious relationship). In the book we see her open up, learn how to deal with her fears and fall in love. A lot of her growth as do to with Hayes, he’s the perfect partner for her.

This book is a part of a series, but could be read as a standalone.

A huge thank you to Tess Shepherd for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Synopsis: When Mary plans a trip of a lifetime with her new, rich boyfriend she thinks surely she can face her fears of flying and leaving home. But when she struggles and just can't manage the courage to get on the plane she finds out if Hayes really does love her through the good and the bad, or if sometimes the bad is just too much. She also learns that not all fears have no reason. Sometimes you fear things for even reasons unknown to yourself.

Thought: When you finish one book and are hoping for a book with the love stories of the additional characters this is just what you will get and then some with Spring Tide. When I finished Jessie’s Point that was the first thing I thought was that I have to know more about these other characters and when I finished Spring Tide there was still more but guess what there is another called Winter Solstice. Did I drop everything and read both of these books this week? Am I already not so patiently waiting for the next. Most definitely. Tess Shepherd does an amazing job of making a romance book more than just romance but incorporates difficult things in life. From the very beginning I was wondering why I really don't know if these characters are meant to be together or not. Maybe they are too different, maybe they have both just been through too much. But isn't that what true love is all about, going through the good and the bad times together and loving someone not just because you have to love them through that but loving them even more because what they have been through is what makes them who they are?

These books can be read out of order or as stand alone but if you pick up one of them you better be ready to dive into all of them because you aren't going to want to miss how these stories are so tied together and wanting to know more. If you haven't picked up one of Tess Shepherds books you NEED to. Her writing is real, authentic and always has me wanting more.

This second book in the Dungeness Hollow series was just as lovely as the first (Jessie's Point). I am so pleased to have been given an ARC of the book, a spicy small town romance. Spring Tide incorporates a main character (Mary Ann) with anxiety which stems from past trauma, strong female friendships, close knit family, and a powerful romantic love and attraction. PLUS! My absolute favorite part of the book? White Mamma Number 23. I am a huge sucker for dogs in books and rescue dogs especially. White Mamma (a rescue pitbull we meet in the first book) is just darling. Her pittie grin jumps off the page every time, and I just love her to pieces. I very much enjoyed Spring Tide and look forward to more from Shepherd.
For fans of: small town romance, feel good vibes, sweet yet steamy love scenes.

I loved getting to know about Mary and Hayes in this one! This was a cute love story, and I loved how supporting Hayes is. I think my favorite part was getting to know the Flynn brothers, so I am super excited to read Winter Solstice! I read this one super fast and loved it the entire time. The epilogue at the end was amazing! I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

This was another wonderful book from Tess Shepherd! Spring Tide is the second book in the Dungeness Hollow series, this time telling Mary’s and Hayes’ story.

Mary-Ann Flynn has lived in the small town of Dungeness Hollow all her life, unable to travel too far because of a chronic panic disorder. After meeting Hayes Somerson, she’s afraid she’ll never be brave enough to overcome her fears and leave the Hollow.

I loved this sweet story, and seeing Mary and Hayes work through their challenges as a team. It was also fun getting to see more of Mary’s best friends, Meg and Casey. This book even has a surprise crossover appearance of characters from another series by Shepherd.

Shepherds’ books just keep getting better, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Thank you to Tess Shepherd for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Mary-Ann is a small town girl, she is a kind and innocent. She is close with her family and friends. She is loved by all in Dungeness Hollow. Mary has never travelled out of her home town thanks to her chronic panic disorder she has had since childhood.
Hayes is a big personality, big city boy, a successful, well travelled and savvy business man. He wants for nothing.
Hayes and Mary-Ann could not be more different. But when Hayes first sees Mary his heart stops and he will do anything to have her. Mary falls for Hayes just as quickly. Together find a way to make their relationship work, overcoming challenges within their relationship.
This is such an uplifting love story as they work to better themselves individually as well as couple. Spring Tide makes you feel the panic at doing something new, feeling hurt due to a misunderstanding , the hope of overcoming fears and the love that Hayes and Mary feel for each other all through Tess's magic way with words! I can't wait for the next installment of Dungeness Hollow!!

Someone pick this series up and make it a TV show. Please.

I was SO excited to return to Dungeness Hollow with the second book of the series, Spring Tide.
I don’t want to give too much away but there was the perfect amount of romance mixed with mystery as we figure out more about Mary Ann and her history while Hayes is honestly just swoon worthy.

Pick this one up today. You won’t regret it. I can’t wait for the next one!

Spring Tide is the second book in the Dungeness Hollow series. Mary and Hayes are undeniably attracted to each other and want to make it work. Secrets from her past may be the cause of her anxiety. Will Mary’s fears prevent them from being together?

While this could work as a standalone, I HIGHLY recommend reading the first book in the series, Jessie’s Point, before diving into this one. You’ll fall in love with all of the Dungeness Hollow characters in book one. Each one in the series simultaneously provides a satisfying ending and a beautiful introduction into the next story.
Looking forward to the next in this series!

I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to the author who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of her book, for my Kindle, in return for an honest review.

Spring Tide is book number two in the Dungeness Hollow series. This series follows the lives of three friends and this book concentrates on Mary, she has a chronic panic disorder, which makes it difficult for her to have a long distance relationship with the wonderful and gorgeous, Hayes.
I loved the insta-love but slow burn relationship between Mary and Hayes and loved the way in which Mary’s anxiety story is slowly and carefully revealed.
I really did enjoy this small town story and actually found myself falling in love with Dungeness Hollow, even though it is a fictional place!!

Mary-Ann & Hayes are the most loveable couple! They’re such a supportive and wonderful pairing I can’t explain how Tess Shepherd does it but from the get go I am hooked on watching these characters spend time together! I would happily read them doing laundry and I know the proximity would be electric.

These characters and story line hold so much depth without it becoming chaotic and overbearing. Spring Tide brings the wonderful Dungeness Hollow back into our lives full of friendships, love and drama that will keep you hooked for each characters stories. Understanding the emotional struggles of these characters was a breath of fresh air because it really emphasised the impact it can have on someone’s everyday life and others surrounding them.

I just think a series that can have me excited for every characters individual story line in such a treat. This is a book feels like one big lush hug and I am so here for it.

Bring on the future Dungeness Hollow read 🙏🏼

Yet another super sweet small town romance from Tess! I really have enjoyed the Dungeness Hollow series and love how Tess manages to pull me into these stories with her exceptional writing. They would make any Hallmark movie fan swoon!

Let me also say, every woman needs a man like Hayes. So supportive, so understanding. Swoon!! He is “eat a whole cake in one sitting, toothachingly sweet”. No woman deserves that man!

If I had one criticism - it would be my lack of a connection with Mary-Ann. I appreciated the representation and how well Tess conveyed crippling anxiety and what a real issue it is for many individuals today. Mary had her challenges for sure - she faced her fears head on thanks to the help and security that Hayes offered her. I just couldn’t connect with her. She came across as flat and one-dimensional and I couldn’t figure out what she brought to her relationships that made everyone love her so much. I guess there just was a lack of interaction with the characters that allowed her to personality to shine through to me.

All in all, this book and entire is made for Hallmark or Netflix. It’s the perfect companion for small town romance lovers.

**I received this book as an ARC in return for my honest review**

This was a beautiful story about love, taking chances, but most of all how it is to live with anxiety and a panic disorder. I love Mary, and I was so proud of her each time she made an effort to take steps outside of her comfort. Hayes is so great, giving her that final push without ever pushing. If only more people would be as understanding as he is!

Steam: 3/5 (couple descriptive scenes)

CW: anxiety, panic attacks

I felt for Mary in the first book, as she wants to travel and explore but there is a fear in her that she is not sure where it comes from but has struggled to live with it. She meets Hayes and they have a connection, while they continue to talk and plan a trip to California when Mary can't get on the plane she decides to end things with Hayes.

Hayes is not willing to let Mary go, he knows she is worth it. He decides to go to her and prove that what they have is worth it. While Mary tries to push through and face her fears Hayes is there to support her. They were the perfect balance for each other. You also get to meet Mary's family and reason behind Mary's fears.

While Mary is a virgin, which is a trope I am not a fan of it was handled well and authentically.

I received an arc for review from the author, all opinions are my own and given freely.

Spring Tide is the second book in the Dungeness Hollow Series (Jessie's Point is the first). Mary-Ann grows so much in this book and I absolutely love it!!! She faces so much in life and honestly if it was y for Hayes I don’t think she would be the confident woman that she is. Hayes knocks down EVERY SINGLE wall to get to Mary! I love watching their relationship continue to grow from what we saw in Jessie's Point. I wish I had more of Mary-Ann into the future at the end & more steam!!!

In the second book of the series we follow Mary and Hayes through their love story. We got a little taste of these two in book 1: Jessie’s Point.

Here we see how Mary’s panic disorder has unfortunately made her afraid of leaving anywhere but home and how Hayes will do everything in his power to help her.

It was a very cute and heart warming read of Mary and Hayes’ love story. Mary seemed very relatable to those who have fears and anxiety that dictate their life and unfortunately put them in a hold or frozen in life. Can’t move any farther in life which can be very difficult for her and her family and friends. However, the reasoning behind her anxiety is far worse than I what I expected and truly tragic. Definitely makes sense to her anxiety and fears of leaving Dungeness Hollow.

Hayes is the guy that everyone wants to have or be. Rich, successful, handsome and truly understanding of Mary. It was amazing to see that Hayes was there for Mary to help and support her. Never trying to change her. Which is truly amazing.

I really enjoyed the relationship and dynamic the three friends have. It is great to read each of their own stories individually but then see them all intertwined in theirs friends stories as well.

Mary-Ann and Hayes' story is a very sweet and romantic one. These two just made me swoon so hard. I loved Hayes so much, I want him for myself. I loved them together though I couldn't really relate to Mary-Ann which is kind of weird for someone with anxiety too. I thought I would relate to her more. But other than that, I think their romance was great and I loved seeing how much her character and their relationship developed as the story goes.
