So Wrong

Rate this book
Design assistant Kendra is thrilled when she snags a side gig creating concert outfits for Ford, a mysterious singer. Though intrigued by his sweet nature, she knows she must resist. A relationship just isn’t part of her five year plan. She has important goals, and zero time for a romance with a flighty, flakey performer.

He is so wrong. Why does he feel so right?

Laid back, semi-slob Ford can’t figure out why he’s spending every waking moment thinking about Kendra. The designer is not his too driven, too ambitious. Besides, fashion is only for snooty, superficial people.

She is so wrong. Why does she feel so right?

“They were as different as oil and water, but so what?”

The best thing about this book and the reason I gave it four stars instead of three is Ford. How could anyone not love this man? He’s the everything I want in a hero. Gorgeous, sweet, sexy, talented, caring, supportive, sensual, loyal, and kind all wrapped up in a professional musician. Kendra is the luckiest woman in the world. I truly cannot adequately express how incredible he is or how much I love him.

Another excellent plus in this book is that the author clearly did extensive research. Her knowledge and descriptions of both the music and fashion industries were outstanding and spot on. So refreshing when too often writers gloss over the details or include inaccurate information. I did feel there was perhaps a little too much detail in both but at least it was correct.

There are, however, a number of other not so great things about this book. To begin with, there isn’t near enough interaction between Ford and Kendra. Too many pages are spent of unimportant things instead of on developing the main characters and their relationship. His dad and her parents seemed like perfectly nice people but we got much more detail about them than was needed. There were several questions left completely unanswered. This was very frustrating. I felt at times there were pages missing in several different times in the book. They progressed from kissing to sex way too abruptly and with no real build up and both came to the conclusion they were in love with very little thought. I also never really felt the burning passion and desire they supposedly felt for each other. Even the sex scenes lacked real heat.

The last two chapters were the worst. Wasting all that time on Ford and David “interviewing” concert goers and a delayed flight instead of on Ford and Kendra’s relationship was ridiculous. And the end? What was that? It’s just barely not a cliffhanger. Either there were pages after that kiss or an epilogue that were accidentally left out or the author just got tired of writing and tacked on the end without really finishing the book. What a disappointment.

So there it is. A book with a good basic plot, a great heroine and one of the best heroes I’ve seen in a long time and then left to flounder in mediocrity. So much wasted potential. Yet I still can’t help but recommend it simply because of the incredible pleasure of getting to know and love Ford. He makes it worthwhile even if you are left frustrated at the end.

I received a free copy of this book via Evernight and am voluntarily leaving a review.

pposites certainly attract and the result can be so hot.

This is my first time reading a January Rowe book, but it won’t be the last. I liked the way the characters came together and their chemistry. It was a quick enough read and I enjoyed myself.

Ford is a slob, but he’s got to gain a sense of fashion and fast. I liked his ability to be oblivious, yet observant about what he wanted to see. He’s funny and sweet. I loved him. Kendra is fun, too, but she’s hyper involved in fashion. She’s detail oriented and determined. I liked that they were so different because it made the story interesting. I liked the hiccups between them. It was relatable and real.

There are a few times when the story did drag a bit and focused a lot on both the recording industry and the fashion one. Those looking for correct details will be thrilled, but at times it was a bit slow going.

Still, the heat is there and the characters fun. If you’re looking for a story that’s different and still a rock star romance, then this might be the one for you.
