McKayla is a USA Today Bestselling author with Souls and Shadows: A Limited-Edition Romance Anthology. She loves her alphas in all shapes- wolves, dragons, bears, witches, and more. As a mother of two living in Wyoming, when she’s not in her writing cave, she’s crafting like crazy with yarn. Her first love was reading books and her second was writing them. And to the dismay of her husband, she will always love her spicy romances.
Avery Branigan had a vamp mark on his wrist that made him need double the amount of blood, but it also let him walk in the sunlight. However, he wanted more than just blood – he wanted a woman who trusted him and he could share secrets with. He wanted a mate. But for now, the blonde would be enough. He took her to the club’s closet reserved for feeding and decided to release a little sexual tension besides. When he finished, the blonde opened the door and a dark-haired woman with a look of disgust was standing there. She knew he was a vampire and reprimanded him for not simply feeding, as the room was intended. Surprised that she knew his was a vampire, he followed and asked how she knew. Malia Alonso told him she was the owner’s daughter, very familiar with vampires. For some reason, his fangs would not go back into place!
Avery’s body was reacting to Malia as if he were her mate – but he had to be sure! He invited her to dinner to spend more time with her. He wanted to know she felt that same connection. He headed off to see the local vampire king, Roland. His vamp mark was fading and he wasn’t sure if should have it re-created or not, which only the king authorized. If he could control the extra blood lust, it allowed him time in the sun.
Malia couldn’t find anything to wear in her closet. Her vampire roommate, Raven, came in and laughed at her frantic clothing search, knowing she had a date with a vampire. As they talked, Raven immediately suspected Malia had found her mate! Malia stopped in the club to see her father and Avery was there. They went to her office and she warned him not to try using compulsion on her. She knew what it felt like but, because of her magical blood, the commands didn’t work on her. Still she didn’t like the feeling of violation it gave her.
Avery took her on a boat ride and served her a delicious dinner. She allowed him to feed on her, but nothing more. She just couldn’t stop thinking about him. Was he her mate?
When the Vampire King of LA dies, some of the council wants Avery to take his place as leader. This could put his human female in danger. Vampire clashes and rogues add to the danger. What will Avery choose? And will Malia stay a part of his life?
I love this author’s books! This is a new series that looks like it’s going to be very good. I like the little nuances that make this story a little different than all the others. The characters are well depicted and the story line is strong. Grab your copy of Book 1 and get ready for adventure!
>Book Review – Blood Games – Avery >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the So Cal Vampire series and ends in an HEA. Malia is human, working at her father’s vampire bar. In this universe, humans are aware of the existence of werewolves, but very few know about the existence of vampires. Malia not only knows about vampires, she is rooming with one. Malia catches vampire, Avery, coming from the bar’s “feeding” room after he fed and more from a random female. Avery realizes Malia is his mate, but Malia does not. >Malia has an ability to avoid vampire mind control. The story explains how rare this is and pairs with an ability to manipulate water. Other than using her ability to pour water on a guy, nothing is ever made of her uniqueness. Why even bring it up then? Malia is really rude to Avery and continues to be rude to him even after they mate. The chemistry between Malia and Avery is non-existent. There isn’t any jealousy from Malia towards Avery for his ex relationships. She literally caught him after sex. >A plot point that is missed is when Raven and Malia escape their kidnappers is how do they escape. Throughout the whole story, anyone who sees the vampires or learns about them has to have their memories wiped or be killed. Why, then, are Malia’s parents allowed to live? The main conflict, the vampire coup, is handled quickly, not really climaxing in to anything. >This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 3 stars. The plot was weak and there were tons of editing errors.
Good Story, part of the Denver Troubles and Dragons of Nevada series
Avery, had left his Montana home for LA, where his King resides. Visiting a Vampire friendly club he finds is mate in the daughter of the owner. While he is getting to know her the King dies, putting him in line to take the thrown. His rival Ivan, is a sore looser and Avery's mate becomes a target. Malia, knows about vampires, her best friend Raven is one, though not by choice. She was attacked by a rogue and saved by a shadow hunter, her choice was to die or be turned. She chose to live. Malia works in her father's club, which vampire friendly. When she meets Avery, she is drawn to him. She never expected to be a mate, or find herself a queen, or having to choose becoming a vampire. Fast paced, a little steamy, vampire romance. Interesting world building. Part of the Denver Troubles and Dragons of Nevada series. Liked Avery and Milia.
A great book, sexy and hot without losing sight of the story. Feisty ladies and strong alpha men with lots of sub plots with the secondary characters ( more books to come in a series I hope ) I am not normally a fan of vampires sparkly or not but this one hits all the right notes without changing rules just to make the plot fit The females don't wilt and allow the men to walk all over them, the men have to work to please their ladies and things do go wrong so it is not all plain sailing and boring Long enough to give you enough insight to the characters but short enough to be able to be read before it gets tedious

This is a well written fast paced book about the vampires of southern California. Avery is vampire marked this allows him to walk in sunlight so he moves between Montana and California so know one will realise he isn't aging but this time in Los Angeles something doesn't feel right. When he runs into Malia the daughter of the owner of the club where vampires hang out he is instantly attracted could she be his mate When danger stalks close due to the death of the vampire king Avery must make the choice will he be the new king even if it puts Malia in danger There will be plenty of drama and suspense on the way to the thrilling conclusion of this book.
I love McKayla Schutt’s stories and this story Blood Games is another one that I’m putting on my to read again shelf I loved it. Add in a sexy vampire named Avery and a human woman Malia who knew what Avery was intrigued him and made him wonder if Malia was his mate. Malia is the daughter of the owner of the club where Avery took a woman to feed and have sex and when the woman opened the door Malia was standing there with a disgusted look on her face and she told Avery that there is a room for him to feed in. I loved this story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
A fantastic new series starter! It is action packed with danger, suspense, humour, and witty banter. An on the edge of your seat read that will keep you guessing and excited for what will happen next. The characters are likeable and strong; the chemistry is off the charts; the sex scenes are steamy and well written. This is a really interesting series and I look forward to the next book. Definitely recommended.

New series with plenty of vampires. The world knows about wolf shifters but not vampires. And they plan on keeping it that way. Malia may be human but she is one of the few that knows about them. So seeing a vamp drinking from a woman is no big deal but when she feels something odd things change fast. And one bachelor vamp is about to change his ways. The story has plenty of vampires fighting vampires as we learn all about them. I have a feeling things will get even more interesting and intense as the series goes.
human Malia is room mates with Vampire Raven and her dad owns a night club that caters to Vamps, so she knows about them, When she come acrost Avery one night and he asks her for a date she accepts but when things get out of hand and fate steps in... This story has tons of twists and turns, fast paced action and lots of steam.

The vampires of Los Angeles have lost their king and the heir apparent just found his mate. There is infighting between the vampire council and the new king while rogue vampires are roaming the city. This new series sets up a world where werewolves have gone public but vampires stay hidden for now. The setup is interesting and I would like to read more about these characters. Voluntarily reviewed.

Avery was a centuries old vampire and his mate was a human with “magical blood.” The story was good mainly concerned with rogue vampires and ruling of the vampires. Good character development and several twists and turns and a couple of big surprises at the end. Good read!

It's a little 2 short. That asshole got what he deserved after kidnapping her. I don't quite understand why the council is going back and forth about him. Hopefully real soon her best friend will have a mate of her own. Her parents should b grateful that he saved her life after what happened 2 her. It's really good I hope 2 read more in the future.
Fast and fun vampire story. Avery was a great character who had great chemistry with Malia. Malia was a strong character that I liked. Lots of action as two factions of vamps clash with plenty of steam. Likeable secondary characters like Raven that filled the story nicely. Loved it!
The action never seemed to stop, just as your heart is slowing down, woops, it speeds up again either with a new fight, a steamy scene or a confrontation. It’s quite a good story to pass away the time.
