The Secret Prisoner: Diary Of A Prisoner

Rate this book
The Secret Prisoner Book is a first hand insight into what prison is like in the UK. This truely is Prison in the UK Exposed! I was sentenced to 5 years and experienced first hand one of the worst prisons in the UK, Wandsworth Prison. I kept a prison diary throughout my journey, as a normal business family man, going through one of the worst times in my life in one of the worst prisons in the UK. TIme to lift the lid on what prison is really like in this true, prison uncovered, warts and all book. This book is as raw as it gets, ive self published so i apologise now if its a bit rugged in places and gramatically incorrect here and there, Ive literally taken it direct from my prison diaries and formatted it in a readable format for you to see first hand, what it is like to be placed in the middle of hell.I heard all the horror stories of prison, the rapes, beatings, gangs, drugs, violence and it terrified me and no one could prepare you for what was to come or what stories were true or not. This is why I decided to keep a diary of all the events, feelings, politics and the good and bad things that go on inside prison. Prison is a big scary and dark place but as you will read in my book, there is light in the darkest of places and humanity does shine through in the last place you would expect. There’s selfishness, charity, brutality, compassion and corruption.Feel through my eyes what, being in one of the worst prisons in the UK, HMP Wandsworth prison, and being in prison for the first time is really like! Then there’s the other side of prison, the craftiness, ingenuity to survive and pass the time and suppress boredom, then there’s the heartbreak, from the children that suffer due to their parent being imprisoned, partners that must face life alone now and family members who are without their loved ones. Ive tried to cover my first hand feelings exactly at that moment, all aspects of living in prison and what it is like for a normal family man whose business activities have landed him in this situation, to now be in a completely alien environment and trying to survive. Some snippets of the book to wet your "Ice cream shop for druggies""The Pregablin Tazmanian Devil""Alladins cave of Contraband""like a scene from oliver""He was blatently having phone sex""Getting toilet roll is like finding rocking horse shit""Pigeon shit, mice and rats""Throwing Poo""More Phones here than carphone warehouse""He chiseled through his cell wall""wedding tackle flopping""She went down like a sack of shit""Wanking wakes me up""Hot Spot For Suicide""Killed for fish fingers""Moldy, Riddled in pubes and like a crime scene""Im in prison for being a cannibal""OAP Bare Knuckle Boxing""Ive befriended a murderer""The seagull shat everywhere""Shipped out for KFC""Inducting a Terrorist""A Hitman at Ford""Shanked for a pair of trainers""Corona Virus""Lockdown Prostitute"Prison is really an unreported world and i hope this gives you a real insight into what prison is really like for someone that is a total prison virgin, not accustomed to this life and what it would be like if you were to find yourself in this position. First we had the secret Barrister book, then the Chris Atkins Bit of A Stretch followed by The Secret Magistrate book, now we have the secret prisoner book.

It was interesting to read to get a bit of a sense of what prison can be like.
I would have liked to have been given a little more information about the details that got him his time as he kind of eluded to it wasn't necessarily his fault entirely at the beginning.
I was quite surprised to hear what being in open prison can be like as in it seemed more like just a room to sleep rather than an actual prison. Also it was surprising to learn about the home visits.
He did feel quite sorry for himself a lot which did get a little monotonous after a while and he could have focused more on how lucky he was that his relationship with his wife and daughter was and remained strong and he didn't seem to have it as bad as lots of others I have read about.

A very interesting account of time spent in Prison.

I've read a lot of books on this subject, all very interesting with their own tales. I did particularly enjoy the chapters around the Covid pandemic, as I haven't read anything about covid in prisons and did wonder how they coped during the lockdown and the effect it had on prison life.

Really interesting, however, I was put off a little as there were quite a lot of spelling errors in this book, even complete words wrong. It could do with another proof read, but I did pick this up for free on Kindle Unlimited so it wasn't like I spent money on it. If I had bought it though, I would have been disappointed as spelling and errors in books is a real hate of mine!

AMAZING READ!!!

Daniel takes you from him being sentenced at court right up to his release

Throughout the book he has been open and honest about his day to day life at HMP

From being like a startled deer on his arrival to feeling the pain after returning from ROTL this book portrays his raw emotion

From murderers, rapists, terrorists, gang members and true friends he tells all of his experience

I intended to read just a few chapters of this book at a time but I read it all in one go, a real page turner
READ IT you won’t regret it

**there is a few typos throughout the book, most notably one in a chapter heading

This account is incredibly insightful into our overrun prisons and their systems but the typos, grammatical errors and general repetitive, mundane and unrefined writing style is too jarring to rate this any higher. After all, great writing is what makes a book good for me; the best plot or most compelling personal story in the world can be made unreadable and drab if the literary quality and hard work is not there.
Despite the poor writing style, the actual account and personal experience in this book make it much more perceptive and visceral than it otherwise would be.

Another Shocking Example of How our Prisons are Run

An Excellent Read but more importantly a shocking example of the way our Prisons are Run , Surely for non violent white collar crime first time offenders what is the point of any rehabilitation when placed in a violent prison where drug taking is rife.
It would be far more useful to place then in open prisons where they can be confined but still pay their debt to society without fear of violence or drug addiction

Badly written

This man seems to only tell us how bad he has it in jail. Which doesn’t sound bad at all considering he’s a criminal. He doesn’t talk about his crime or have any remorse- just how much he wants to get out of prison. Shows the flaws in the justice system he’s time in jail was reduced to near nothing.
Made me feel for victims of crime- they get no justice

just take It on the chin and stop feeling so sorry for yourself.

It has been a marathon of self pity , commit a serious crime and you are going to go down. The last chapter however, did bring a tear to my eye. Being torn apart from the ones you love must be a terrible thing to experience. Take heed you potential criminals.

eye opening

Very well written, interesting and very eye opening book, quite funny in places too. I just think he should of added a chapter in at the end to let the reader know how it was getting home, what he’s up to now etc. Would of been a nice way to end

Full of self pity but NOT ONE word of remorse.

Usual deal from a convict who only cares about himself. No sign of remorse. Just thinks of himself 24/7.
Another Scumbag menace to Society who got away lightly due to 'prisoners rights'

An interesting read but there was no coverage of why he was in there apart from a brief mention. It would have been good to have a bit more insight into why he received the sentence he did. The constant moaning about being in prison did go on.

A interesting read

As you can imagine it can be repetitive, but given the subject matter that's not surprising, it does give a candid look at life inside though, if it is to be believed the prison service is not working and drastic changes need to be made.

Interesting read. Great insight into what it’s like to be a prisoner in both a closed and open prison. I was surprised how rife and under punished contraband is. Also interesting about how much leave prisoners from prison get in open prisons. Also how covid was dealt with in prisons too.

Not convinced

Having read this book I'm not convinced the author has seen the inside of a Prison, there are far to many inaccuracies

Interesting read

I liked this book however throughout it felt a little bit like the author was on a bit of a pity party. He never seemed to take responsibility for his crime but spoke a lot about how unjust his sentence was. He has a child that he was obviously desperate to get back to but I dont feel it sets the right example. In my mind punishment (prison or otherwise) should be on some level to make you take account and responsibility for your actions help you to shape the way you behave going forward.
I just feel there could have been a bit less judgement and a little but more about how he views things now he's had time to think.
I will say as someone who has not been to prison it is a good beginning insight to what life can be like on the inside. It would have been good to have had a little bit about how life was following release.

I did enjoy this book, I gave great insight into prison life but the authors 'poor me' attitude is a bit annoying. He committed a crime so had to do prison time, that's kind of what happens when you break the law. I'm not sure what he expected prison to be like? He doesn't really go into much detail about his crime which is a bit frustrating, had he told the reader a bit more info then maybe we would be more understanding on whether his sentence was too harsh. Anyhow, it was a good read even with a few typos and grammatical errors.
