Scandalous Little Obsession

Rate this book
I’m the youngest but that doesn’t mean I’m naive. That I can’t take care of myself.
Or go after what I want.

Which is exactly what I plan to do, no matter how many times my brother tries to stand in my way. This is my life, not his. He may be afraid to let me go, but I’m not scared of spreading my wings and flying.

Of rising from the ashes.

I’m tired of mourning. I’m tired of being treated as fragile. And I’m ready to start living my life again.

First thing on my list… sex.

So what if it’s my first time? Who cares if it’s supposed to be special?

I’m not looking for a relationship, I just want to lose my virginity.

I’ve even set my sights on the person I want to give it to.

His messy hair falls in his honey brown eyes, making me weak in the knees.

His touch lights a fire inside me I didn’t know existed and I find myself begging to get burned. Best of all, he says he likes to fix broken things.

I’m still a little broken, and I have a few ideas how he can fix me.

The only problem… my brother’s forbidden him to come near me.

It’s a good thing sneaking around is hot.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Scandalous Little Obsession by Rachael Brownwell takes the reader back to Lake State University. So, I have been following this series from the beginning and with each installment I have grown closer to the characters. The teaser at the end of Wicked Little Promise made me eager to get my hands on Evie and Leo's story. I am happy to report it did not disappoint. Chock full of emotions, Scandalous Little Obsession kept me engaged from start to finish.

SUMMARY

Evie Palmer, the youngest of the Palmer siblings, is a freshman at Lake State University. Ever since her senior year in high school, she has wanted one thing, but her brother Max scared away all the potential candidates. Now she’s in college and she plans to live her life on her own term. To prove to everyone, her brother included, she can take care of herself. The first thing on her agenda is to rid herself of her virginity and walk away with no strings attached. She has the perfect candidate on her radar, but achieving her goal will not be an easy undertaking. First, the guy she set her sights on was rushing the fraternity for which her brother was president. Second, her brother's  determination to keep guys away from her, especially members of his fraternity made her quest harder.

The story began with Evie and Leo’s first encounter. Since that moment they were caught in a game of cat and mouse, with Leo doing the chasing while Evie keeps running. In the middle of the chase, we find Max dishing out threats, hoping to scare Leo from pursuing his baby sister.

Evie was a great character. In this installment, she grows into a confident and strong individual. She has come to terms with the loss of her dad. The pain is still raw, but she recognized he would want her to live her life to the fullest and she plans to do just that. I admired how she stood up to her brother, letting him know that is her life and not his to control. She definitely has gumption, which made her a perfect match for Leo.

Leo was the one guy Max’s scare tactics did not work on. He refused to back off and proved he would willingly walk through the fire to be with Evie.

The romance which developed falls into the category of slow burn. Despite her eagerness to rid herself of her virginity, it took a while for them to become intimate. In this regard, Leo displayed his gentleman side by putting Evie’s needs above his. That being said, it took me sometime to warm up to Leo. I knew little about him and he appeared too good to be true. Brownwell slowly weaved his past into the story. Eventually, one learns of the betrayal and heartbreak he experienced while in high school. Especially when that past came tumbling into his present, wanting a reconciliation.
As this is a college romance, one would expect there to be an emphasis on the college experience, however, this was not the case. The focus was on Leo and Evie’s relationship and Max’s insecurities in his sister’s ability to take care of herself. Now, while I understood Max’s need to protect his sister, I found his attitude and actions overbearing. It’s clear he harbors deep-seated issues. I sure hope he deals with it.

Conclusion/Recommendation

Overall, Scandalous Little obsession delivered an entertaining college romance. It will make you laugh and swoon and leave you wanting more of these characters. I am looking forward to the next couple's story. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

This is an honest review for an arc received.

Evie Palmer is the younger sister to Max and Willow. She’s now ready to take on LSU and ready to lose something as well. But it isn’t easy being Max’s little sister. When she first lays eyes on the gorgeous Leo Palmer all bets are off.

Leo Palmer is looking to pledge to a fraternity. While at a Kappa party he sees the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen. Determined to talk to her, he makes his way over to her. To his dismay, he learns that this is his frat president’s little sister. But a butt kicking is worth getting to know this woman.

4 1/2 starry eyed lovers stars! You will absolutely fall in love with Evie and Leo. Evie is coming into her own and finally finds someone who is willing to stand up to her brother. Leo is such a gentleman with Evie. These two are absolutely perfect for each other. You favorite couples from previous books pop up, which I love. Still patiently waiting for Brady & Max’s books!!!

This was amazing, I've been falling in love with all the characters in the LSU series and couldn't wait for Evie's story. It didn't disappoint! Leo is fantastic but you know he and Evie are destined from the moment they meet, before realizing that her brother, his big brother in the fraternity he is pledging, had warned them all to leave her alone. It was such a thrilling read. I had my moments of crying and laughing. It just confirmed my obsession with the series, and I cannot wait for the next books. This is a happily ever after and not a cliffhanger as those are typically books I avoid until the entire series is finished. It is best to read in order though, so as not to get things confused but again, is a standalone.
This was an ARC for me to leave an honest review.

Rachael Brownell has us back at Lake State U with Scandalous Little Obsession, the fifth book in Lake State University series.
This interconnected Standalone follows the story of the youngest Palmer sibling of Max and Willow, Evie Isabella Palmer and her love interest Leo Matthew Raymond through their dual POVs.

Evie is officially a freshman at college, but the one thing she had been hoping to shed before graduating high school never happened thanks to her older brother.
So now she has made it her mission to lose it as soon as possible at college. But it’s not going to be an easy feat with being the younger sister to an older over protective like Max. Especially when the guy she sets her eyes upon, Leo just so happens to be rushing the fraternity that her brother is the president too.
Will she be able to conquer her mission? Or will her brother’s interference stop her.

While Evie and Leo’s story was a Slow Burn, it wasn’t all surprising given the innocence of Evie which led to a steady growing relationship between herself and Leo. Especially with the nature of the drama they were having to deal with over the progression of the narrative.
Given how the development of the relationship between the two had them contemplating what they wanted, since their mindset led to them changing their decisions at times. It worked in the favour of being a Slow Burn.
Ultimately making it all the more worth the wait, especially when it came to the moments of the smoking hot humidity build up that Rachael instigated between Evie and Leo. Luring you in anticipation of wondering if that moment would finally be it for them. Only to rip the carpet from under you before the explosion could occur.
While that was frustrating it happened to fit in the storyline well, given the game of cat and mouse they were playing. Leo being the cat constantly chasing after Evie, who is the mouse always running away. But that was understandable given the interference of her brother Max, that led her to pull away.

What made me enjoy the story the most was the overall growth of the characters.
In Evie's case seeing her grow into her own, flourishing into a strong and confident woman, to finally stand up to her brother with telling him how it is caused me to have admiration for her. The fact that she finally took the initiative in taking the steps needed to make Max realise that she was no longer a little girl, that she can take care of herself and handle anything that may come her way.
As for Leo, he truly grew into his own. Finally doing and saying everything that needed to be done said and done. Especially when it came to his past.
As well as putting his needs aside for Evie, which showcased the caring gentleman side to him, that had me admiring him for it.
Looking at them two grow in their own way and come together truly showed they were meant to be.
They complimented each other, with being what the other needed and helping each other become that.
Though it wasn’t smooth sailing given the ups and down Evie and Leo constantly navigated through. However knowing that a relationship managed to survive that, which theirs did, coming out even more stronger on the other side proved even more what they meant to each other. That they were willing to fight until the end, even at the cost of potentially hurting family members in the process.

All in all, Rachael Brownell had me enjoy reading Evie and Leo’s story Scandalous Little Obsession.
Definitely can’t wait for the next story in Lake Street University series, especially if it’s about whom she has me thinking it is.

Evie has been stopped by an overprotective big brother at actually having any sort of relationship so now that she's at college, she's ready to lose her v-card no matter what. It just so happens she meets Leo, and there's something there which should have been easy but unfortunately, he's trying to get into the fraternity that her brother is the president of so let the sneaking around commence leaving me on the edge of my seat waiting for that other shoe to drop. I loved Evie so much as she was tenacious, and throughout this story, she got stronger & more independent to finally confront her brother about his hand on her life. Leo was amazing as well, and they were perfect together as he was willing to put it all on the line for this girl. Of course it's not all sunshine & roses for Evie to get to the place she did, so in order to experience it for yourselves & see how it all plays out, you'll have to hit those one click buttons as I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Welcome back to Lake Street U, where you can look across the room at a frat party and see your soulmate. I mean there are bunches of obstacles to overcome first, but that’s what makes a book by Rachael Brownell so good! Se gives us real characters with real emotions and you can’t help but root for them.

Evie is the baby of the family, but she’s all grown up and it seems everyone knows this with the exception of her big brother Max. And he is making it his mission to make her life a lonely living hell. Until one night a pair of brown eyes connect with hers and everything doesn’t seem so lonely. Now if only they can figure out how to work around Max and his spies.

Go grab this one, hang out with the Lake Street Gang. It’s always a great time!

This was a good book. I read it in one sitting. I wasn’t sure I’d like this book because I don’t usually read this trope. I was pleasantly surprised to find out how much I loved this book. I look forward to reading about Max when it’s his turn for a book.

This is the 5th book in this incredible series, and this is Evie and Leo’s story. Evie is the baby on her family, and she just wants to move on with her life, and now at college she wants to have the whole college experience, but with an overprotective brother like Max, it is not going to be easy. Leo is the only one that Max’s threats does not effect, and he is determined to pursue Evie regardless. This is a well written story which is filled with drama, loss, family, grief, healing, friendships, emotions, romance, angst, challenges, and love, which leads to an entertaining and compelling page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

The littlest Palmer is all grown up

This book is definitely the lightest of the series. But its heavy on the drama all thanks to one broody Max Palmer. All he wants to do is protect his sister but she's gotta make her own choices now that she's am adult. I enjoyed the way Leo stood up for her proving his love and loyalty.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Evie's book is here, and it was awesome. Its a bit of older, disapproving brother and a forbidden relationship between Virgin Evie, who is Max's little sister and Leo, who is a really awesome, sweet and kind guy who also is pledging Max's fraternity. These two really just fit together well and honestly I did not understand Max's objections to him at all.

Evie and Leo were really hot and cute together. They really are a pair that just fit together and they both seem to have a lot in common. For most of the book they hide their relationship from Max which was kind of insane as Leo is such a great guy and Evie is such a huge sweetheart.

There is a tiny bit of drama with Leo's ex but I really felt that Evie rose to the occasion so well and really dealt with it in such a mature way and I loved how she talked with Leo about it. It really showed her maturity and I was just so impressed with her character when this popped up. She easily could have ran away or hid or stopped and avoided Leo but she didn't, she acted like such an adult and honestly I loved how she dealt with that. That out of anything in this story told me she did not need Max anymore and that she was ready for an adult relationship.

This was a really awesome read and I loved how mature Evie has become since the first book in the series. Leo is such a sweetheart and I loved how awesome he was with Evie. This story featured a bit of insta lust/love/crush but I loved how we watch these two really get to know each other throughout this book.

I absolutely loved this book.

Little sister Evie, is heading to college. She has decided to attend the same college as her older brother, Max, who is a senior and President of the Kappa frat and her sister Willow. She has one plan though, to lose her virginity and as fast as possible as it has felt like a noose around her neck. What she didn't plan on is her big brother to be even more overprotective then ever. When he tells everyone at the first frat party that she is off limits she know life just got a lot more difficult. Not to be slowed down she sees the guy across the room and knows that he is it. When he introduces himself, she knows she has to walk away even when he is everything that she really wants.

Leo has decided to pledge Kappa and when he sees this beautiful girl across the room, he knows that he needs to meet her. He doesn't understand why she keeps running from him, until Max pulls him aside and tells him, she is off limits. Can these two seriously fight the attraction that is building with every glance?

Seriously the feistiness that Evie has got to be some of the best. She may be the youngest in the family but this girl knows how to stand up for herself. She fights with everything she has to stay away from Leo, but they are two magnets that just find one another. When the deal is set, you know that there is going to be fireworks when big brother finds out. This was such a fun read and exactly what I needed to help just sit back and enjoy.

Having read Dirty Little Secret, Tempting Little Tease, Risky Little Affair, and Wicked Little Promise i couldn't wait for more from this series! I've been looking so forward to this fifth installment ever since it was announced! I picked it up as soon as i could and got back into the Lake State University world. I enjoyed this fifth book!

Evie and Leo's journey captured my attention right from the get go! From the moment at the party, I couldn't wait to see how things would play out for them.

I was glad that i got to jump into both characters minds. I enjoyed getting to see how they'd tackle their attraction to one another and other things in their lives. I really liked getting to see Evie find herself. The chemistry between her and Leo was great!

I was so happy to be back in this world with these characters!

With Scandalous Little Obsession, Ms.Brownell has created such a good read! I so can't wait to dive back into this series with the sixth installment, Torrid Little Passion!

Scandalous Little Obsession is Book #5 in the Lake State University series. Books are best enjoyed read in order because Rachael loves to drop Easter eggs. If you have read the other books- Evie will be a familiar face as she is the youngest Palmer. This is a sweet read, low on the angst and heat. But, as this story builds it also gives us insight on what is to come with a couple of the main characters in this friends group. This is a slow burn romance, although their attraction started from the first pages, Evie and Leo build their romance as they navigate around Max and his over protectiveness.

Evie is ready to enjoy her freshman year of college, but her brother Max, does his best to stand in her way. In all the best interest ways, but his overbearing ways are driving her crazy.

Leo Raymond is also a freshman and pledging Max’s fraternity. Not only does he find himself Max’s “little brother”, but incredibly attracted to the off limits Evie.

They deny, avoid, and fight their attraction, but somethings are just meant to be.

This book is part of the Lake State University series but can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend that you do read it. This story between Evie and Leo is amazing!!! You know that these two are meant for each other from the moment they meet.

Evie has an overprotective big brother that has actually stopped her from ever having any sort of relationship, so now that she's at college, she's ready to lose her v-card no matter what. Leo is pledging the fraternity that her brother is president of and her brother had said she was ‘off-limits’ to all of them. So Evie and Leo have to sneak around to see each other.

You will absolutely fall in love with Evie and Leo, just like I did. Evie finally finds someone who is willing to stand up to her brother. Leo is such a gentleman with Evie. These two are absolutely perfect for each other!! I’m going to go back and read the rest of the series and fall in love with the other couples too!! Great job Rachael!!!

Rachel Brownell has once again delivered another fantastic addition to her Lake Street U Series) just when I don’t it can get any better , she once again proves me wrong !!’ I have absolutely loved every single book and couple ,all the storylines are simply amazing and each couple so unique, likable , relatable and multi layered that I did not think was possible to choose a favorite. But Evie and Leo just might be the exception. Their love story has all the feels — it’s angsty , heartbreaking, heartfelt, emotionally charged , filled with humor , intrigue , witty banter , off the charts chemistry, unexpected surprises, family , friendships, love , drama , second chances, and much much more . It will literally grab onto all your emotions and keep you on the edge of your seat . It’s truly a emotional rollercoaster. I laughed , I cried and I found myself rooting so hard . You are not going to want to miss this awesome series

It was a slow burn, low angst book. The story was straightforward and good escapist fare, but honestly, I wanted more. I felt like I didn't get to know much about the main characters and can't even remember if something as basic as their intended majors (or even just the subjects they're studying) are mentioned. At one point, someone says to Evie, "You swore you were going to be at every frat and event. You wanted to have the traditional, crazy freshman experience." I had similar thoughts-- I thought Evie's character would get more involved in school life and all she seems to do is mope/think about [and later sneak around with] Leo, hang with her siblings' friends and go to class.

Despite this, I'm looking forward to Brady's and Max's books.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Stephannie's 5 Star Review:

I really like this series and this book doesn't disappoint. I read it cover to cover and loved every minute of it. This is Evie and Leo's story. Evie is a freshman and her big brother Max is majorly protective of her and she is ready to live life and get rid of her Virginity. She meets Leo and she knows he is the guy. But he is pledging the same fraternity that Max is president of and he warns every guy not to look, touch, or talk to Evie. This goes over like a lead balloon with Evie.

I was obsessed with these two and wanted to smack Max a number of times. These two have chemistry and I just loved this book. I can't wait for Max's book. Every book can be read as a standalone. So check out this one or all of the books in this series. You won't be disappointed. Loved it !

4.5 Stars from Brianna!

Rachael Brownell is back with the next book in the addicting Lake State University Series (anyone else super excited for this beauty?!) and y'all, this was crazy good and dare say a tie for my top favorite couple.

Scandalous Little Obsession is the next installment, giving us Leo and Evie's slow burn, all in your feels journey and y'all, they did not disappoint for a single moment in their story. Forbidden, steamy, complicated, angsty, packed to the brims with all the heart and feels. Once you enter Lake State University, you'll never be the same again, reader AND characters. I cannot wait for the next by Rachael.

I can't recommend this series enough y'all.

This is book # 5 of the LSU series and it's just as awesome as the rest. I seriously advice to read them in order, you will not regret it. This is the story of Evie & Leo. Evie is the younger sister of Max. She is in her first year of college and ready to enjoy it to it's fullest. Only if her overprotective brother, Max will let her.
At her first frat party she meets Leo, the guy she decides she will lose her virginity too.
Leo is pledging Max's fraternity and also his little brother. Things get tough for Evie and Leo but with the outstanding chemistry and attraction nothing or no one can or will stop them. This authors books just keep getting better and better. I am so stoked for the next book!!

This series just gets better and better. With an older brother like Max, Evie has lead a sheltered and very controlled life. Max has put up roadblocks and has overtaken anything that has to do with Evie. So when one of the pledges from her brother's fraternity catches her eye, needless to say Max will not tolerate it. But Leo sees more than just a spark- he sees a future, can he break through Max's walls? Or will Evie be destined to stay the fragile little sister of big, bad Max? With characters that will become an instant favorite and a storyline that had me from the opening pages this was an awesome addition to a series I have always enjoyed.

You can’t help but fall for Evie and Leo when there is that instant attraction and spark across the room. You root for them against all odds (all odds being a very over protective older brother and all of his friends).
I’m not usually a fan of fade to black scenes but this book had the perfect build up of all the chemistry and steam but leaves enough to the imagination that you find yourself giddy for their next interactions.
I am a few books behind in this series but that didn’t take away from this book at all but it does make me desperately want to go back and read the others asap. This group of friends make you laugh, shake your head but above all they make you want more and more.

I loved this story!

I picked up this book not sure what to expect. It blew me away. I did not expect to fall in love with this couple the way I did. This is the first book I have read in this series, and I did not feel lost at all. But I will be going back to read the previous ones.

It takes one look for Leo to fall for Evie. She is beautiful and does not let him get to her right away. One problem is that Evie has an older brother Max, who is more than overprotective. Evie cannot let Leo go either. So, they must decide if being together is worth Leo suffering the wrath of Max or are they ready to stand up to him and find their happiness.

I will say that I was skeptical at first with reading a young adult book as I find most of the characters too immature for my tastes. I was pleasantly surprised with this one though. Evie is more than ready to start spreading her wings, except she has a controlling older brother. The story between Evie and Leo was fantastic, well written and definitely worth the read. This skeptic would whole heartedly recommend. I received an advanced reader copy and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

Max little sister Evie started college and ready to lose her V card but her brother has declared her off limits. Leo meets Evie unbeknownst to him that is Max's sister.

However Leo is not so easily scared away from Max despite Max threats. They are such great characters and this was my first read by Rachel but definitely not my last. I absolutely loved this book

After reading the previous book, I have been waiting for Evie and Leo's story, and I really enjoyed it. It's really sweet, I loved the attraction between them. They're so cute together too. I loved reading them together and working through the attraction between them. But what I loved most was Evie finding herself and growing into her own self. I finished their story in just one sitting, that's how much I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed getting to know Leo and Evie more in this book as they have been more in the background in the other books of this series. Leo & Evie’s story is more of a “forbidden romance” story and really goes to show that you shouldn’t let anyone tell you what to do when it comes to love. I really look forward to reading Max’s story in the future because this book really dug more into his part of the story as well! An overall great read ❤️

I enjoyed this book! It has a little bit of everything, strong friendships, sweet moments, a little bit of drama, painful pasts, and sexy moments. I loved that Leo was willing to go up against Max to be with Evie. This has been one of the most interesting and fun series that I have read. I can’t wait until the next book!

I enjoyed this book just as much as the rest of the series! Scandalous Little Obsession was a great next step for the series! The characters were fantastic and entertaining and the book had one of my favorite tropes in romance: protective older brother. Leo and Evie build a great relationship in this book. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
