Lord Barton's Honour

Rate this book
When William, Lord Barton, found Amanda Stratton in his cabin on the Cumberland Rover, he immediately assumed the worst. What could she be but another of those infernal fortune-hunters he'd been dodging for years? Except this one was more clever than most--she had caught him.

What he didn't know was that she was fleeing a far worse fate than marriage to a stranger. Her uncle had promised her to l'Ange Infame, a decadent French nobleman who had not given up his designs on her person.

Nor did he understand Amanda's opposition to his proposal. She was far from the compliant and grateful bride he had expected....

Zjevně se inspirovala u Cartlandové.
IMHO nelogický příběh. Aby zachránil dobrou pověst nějaké holky, vezme si ji, i když ona nechce a v podstatě o jejím „prohřešku“ nikdo neví. Hrdinka sice má poručníka, ale na sňatek to nemá vliv. Hned po svatbě jí dá hrdina jasně najevo, že ho sice uhnala, ale to je asi tak všechno.
Z toho se nedá vytřískat příběh, ani když se do toho klasicky zamíchá zlá milenka a zlý příbuzný. A do toho vlezlá lady Augusta.
Navzdory Amandině „ostýchavé družnosti“, došlo na velkém plese (asi 400 lidí) k „problémům v kuchyních“, které musel řešit sám lord Barton (s. 87, 88). Panečku.

In a nutshell: Amanda Stratton stows away in Lord Barton's cabin on the Cumberland Rover in an effort to escape an unwanted alliance. When Barton is caught with her, he must marry her to save her reputation and his family's name. Meanwhile, her uncle and the degenerate he promised her to, decide to get revenge.

My opinion: At first, I couldn't put this down. I found the characters and storyline very interesting. It flowed well but, at some point, I lost interest. I honestly don't know if this circumstance was due to the writing style or perhaps something in my own mindset. However, the hero/heroine were rather likable, the villain properly villainous, and the supporting characters believable. The storyline was a slightly different take on the "caught in a compromising position" scenario. Overall, I think it was worth the read.

This book got me real giddy but not really really giddy. It kept me at the edge of my seat but I would've loved this book even more if they included more romantic scenes rather than action scenes. Plus, the end made me feel like that the author should've added more. But then, I felt the emotion the author was trying to portray in the book.
