Horsewoman Sara Anders rebuilt her life in the rugged mountains of Oregon. Her trail riding venture with author and rancher Jackson Cantrell is a success. When Jackson is found at the base of a cliff, his death is ruled accidental. Sara doesn’t believe this and neither does Brayden Cantrell, Jackson’s long-lost nephew who only recently entered his life, and Sara’s.
Unwilling partners who must learn to trust each other and themselves, Sara and Brayden lead a six-day trail ride into the mountains, taking Jackson’s ashes to be buried beside his beloved wife. The funeral cortege includes Jackson’s closest friends—the last people known to see him alive. After a rattlesnake is found zipped inside Sara’s tent and a mourner dies mysteriously, Sara and Brayden realize that they ride the mountain with a killer. But who? And why? And who will be next?
Trouble suspects everyone but his job is to protect Sara, and sleuthing out the villain requires all his skills. Everyone loved Jackson Cantrell until someone didn’t. The savvy feline knows most people incriminate themselves given enough time. But time is running out and a murderer is getting desperate.
Susan Y. Tanner continues to blend her passion for horses with her passion for writing. In Trouble in Summer Valley, she introduced readers to the rescue horses of Summer Valley Ranch where they prove their worth in therapeutic riding. In Turning for Trouble, her own rodeo experience brings that rough and tumble world to life. Her third romantic mystery, Trouble in Action, showcases the risky profession of stunt riding while giving a glimpse into historical reenactments. A Whisper of Trouble provides a glimpse into a talent practiced by few...the art of horse whispering. Published by KaliOka Press, these romantic mysteries feature a super-sleuth in the form of a black cat detective. They are part of the Trouble Cat Detective series written in concert with some very talented authors.
Ms. Tanner's five historical romances--Highland Captive, Captive to a Dream, Exiled Heart, Fire Across Texas, Winds Across Texas, and A Warm Southern Christmas (a novella)--have been rereleased by Secret Staircase Books, an imprint of Columbine Publishing. All were previously published by Leisure Books.
Trouble, the sly Sherlockian feline detective (as in Cat), is on the trail of a killer. Literally. Trouble and Sara are on a trail ride, to place the ashes of her murdered friend and mentor in his favorite place. As in all of Tanner’s Trouble stories, horses are featured; this is a trail ride on horse back. I find this adventure is just so intriguing and creative! Trouble generally rides along in the supply truck, but occasionally finds himself on horseback. The riders are all friends of the victim, and one killer. The mystery is intricate, the romance expected, Troubles, snooping fun,but the trail ride is just so unique and interesting. A real adventure! Hands down, one of the best of the Trouble series. If you haven’t discovered Trouble and his detective ways, this is a great place to start. Then hurry on out and get the rest; you’re in for a treat!
Sara runs a horse trail riding business in Oregon. She works and lives with Jackson Cantrell. He’s an entrepreneur, rancher, and author. Which is of course how Trouble has come to visit. Unfortunately, Sara awakens and feels trouble of another kind has come to visit. She finds Jackson dead at the bottom of a slope. Everyone believes it was an accident except Sara, Brayden, and naturally Trouble the black cat. The trio and a group of Jackson’s friends go on a memorial trail ride to leave Jackson’s ashes with his wife’s. Finally, the murderer is discovered as the ride is coming to an end.
I’m so glad to read another Trouble book. You never know where you’ll go and what mystery you’ll solve, but you know you’re going to have a great read.
Sara has found happiness in her life. She is living with author Jackson Cantrell and works with him. She is running a trail riding business in Oregon. What is unfortunate is that she finds Jackson dead at the bottom of a slope. It is ruled an accident, but Sara and Trouble, the feline detective think otherwise. I always love how Susan’s stories have horses, and Trouble’s snooping whether on a horse, jeep or his feet is so fun. Love seeing the sleuthing process through the mind of a cat. A trail ride that becomes the trail to a killer.
I was happy to read Trouble had a much bigger talking roll in this mystery. Absolutely loved the story line and the characters were very interesting. The killer was actually no surprise to me. He was one of two that I suspected. Can't wait for the next Trouble mystery. Would really love to see a mystery with both Trouble and his dad, Familiar in it solving the mystery together. That would be awesome!!!!
