Whitney Brooks compares herself to Robin Hood. She steals from the rich to give to the poor. But she only takes money from bad people. However, after she is crippled in a carriage accident, she must change her ways. Now, she is righting the wrongs in her life, and she ends up in Fort Benton, Montana. When she recognizes a man from her past, she fears U.S. Marshal Jake Sterling might just arrest her.
Although Jake Sterling is not a hero, he takes his job seriously and follows an outlaw to Fort Benton. Jake has a gut feeling that the outlaw will steal the rubies coming on one of the steamboats. But the more he gets to know the woman who is lovelier than a desert rose, the more he believes she is a thief and working side-by-side with the outlaw. How can he tell his heart that Whitney isn’t the woman for him when her passionate kisses tell him differently?
She just needed to steal the money so her friend could get away. Her uncle could afford to help her but was just too stingy. At least that is what she told herself.
What started as help to one person spiraled into more, but after getting hurt, Whitney realized she needed to change her ways. In a strange turnaround, when she found out her deceased spouse had stolen items from others, she began returning them.
Jake Sterling, is determined to find the outlaw who had been stealing items. He knew he was on the trail and felt they would try to steal the shipment of rubies soon to come in. What he didn't know was the person he thought, might just have reasons for what she did.
A charming journey as these two continue to meet up, but soon, all comes around. Have loved this series!
Wow this story has a different take on Robin Hood as it starts out with widow Whitney Brooks stealing from a rich man to give money to his poor granddaughter. But something happened that night as she fled the mansion that changed her life. Her discovery of how her husband came to own the many articles filling her home has her righting the wrongs he had done when he stole them. With one last article to return in Fort Benton, Montana- she will finally be free from the life she has been living for a few years. Her good friend Connie has assisted her in getting in and out of the many places they have been.
U.S. Marshal Jake Sterling has been looking for an escaped convict, Conrad for many months leading him to Fort Benton. He has a tip that there is a beautiful blond woman that has been hiding him in Fort Benton. After arriving and scoping out the area looking for both the outlaw and the blond woman- he meets a beautiful woman that seems vaguely familiar. After remembering his introduction to Whitney the year before- he begins to suspect she is the woman he is looking for.....working with the outlaw he is after.
I read this story in one sitting as the fast paced mystery of Whitney and also the intrigue going on in Fort Benton kept me fascinated. As usual for this author there were some unexpected surprises.
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
Book 3 in this series is an interesting twist on Robin Hood. Whitney “borrows” from the rich to help those in need. After an accident and injury, she realizes the beautiful things in her home had been stolen by her deceased husband so she starts to return them. Jake meets up with her and, even with an attraction, he thinks she is partnering with the outlaw he is searching for. A wonderful story! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
I first have to mention that I read this book back in December and for whatever reason the review didn't post and I apologize for that. I am really enjoying this series. Whitney is like a modern version of Robin Hood, but she only takes what she needs to help others and only takes fron bad people. After an accident, she decides to change her ways, but fears that Marshall Jake is after her. What more trouble can she get into. I was given an ARC of this book by the author for an honest review. Thank you again for the opportunity, even though I am late with posting.
Whitney reminds me of Robin Hood from the Errol Flynn movie. She is righting wrongs, however, & helping poor, oppressed people. Jake's relationship with her is complicated. Though he thinks he has her figured out, could he be wrong? His heart wants that to be true. I am always amazed at the surprises Ms. Higgins & Ms. Haynes put into their stories. I was especially impressed by who the bad people are in this story. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary review.
Rubies and Rivers is another exciting story with plenty of surprises. Jake is a great lawman and partner. Whitney is feisty and honest, or maybe not. I loved how they got to know each other and how they helped each other through some dangerous adventures. As usual, an exciting and unexpected book by Marie Higgins.
Marie Higgins keeps getting better and better. I have enjoyed the Gems of the West series and look forward to the next one. I hope Whitney and Jake make an appearance in it because they have been delightful to get to know. This book has interesting characters, humor, romance, danger, intrigue and mystery.
loved this book from the very beginning!!! so much action/mystery going on, wonderful characters, great story line.... this is definitely worth reading!
