This book will make you think about what you share on Social Media
Tara was a Social Media Influencer who lived her entire life online for her fans. She was Insensitive to her husband needs. She Careless, Self-Centered, No sense of self-preservation always seeking the Limelight. The night of her 6 year wedding Anniversary Tara was running late for her dinner reservations with her husband Rowan. While endure to dinner she bumps into a handsome and charming man named Declan. After uttering nervous apologies he asks Tara out to dinner where she politely turns him down because she was already late for dinner reservations with her husband. Declan gives her his number and watches as she walks away.
Unbeknownst to Tara; Declan is completely obsessed and has been stalking her for the last 4 years. During her anniversary dinner Rowan finally tells Tara how he's been feeling and tells her that he was divorcing her. Tara on the brink of homelessness reaches out to a friend from college Ashley who lets her crash at her apartment until she gets back on her feet.
Rowan has moved on and in an attempt to help Tara to stop obsessing over him; Ashley suggests that Tara go on a "Hook Up" site to find a One Night Stand to get her mind off of Rowan. This is where I feel that Tara had no self preservation skills. She reaches out to Declan through the app not realizing that he was the same guy who bumped into her a few weeks back on the night of her anniversary.
Her and Ashley goes to the bar where she was suppose to meet Declan. Ashley leaves her to get some food but not before reminding her of the "Girl Code". While waiting at the bar Tara meets a woman named Deb who warns her not to go out with Declan. This was another " Red Flag" that Tara dismisses thinking Deb is a jealous ex.
Growing up my mother always instilled in me to NEVER accept a drink from a stranger. Although Tara was there to meet up with Declan he was still in essence a stranger. Due to Tara's lack of self preservation she accepts a drink from Declan which he has drugged and finds herself back at his home. The next morning reality sets in and she finds out that he has been stalking her for years. She tries to escape only to be knocked up waking up hours layers chained to his bed as a naked captive.
The story deals with the dangers of Social Media Fame, Stalking, Obesession, Stockholm Syndrome and Mental Illness.
The fact that the heroine turned down the opportunity to reconcile with her ex husband because she fell in love with her deranged, stalker, psychopathic kidnapper who is now in prison was mind blowing. This is a quick read but definitely a page turner and the ending will definitely provide the right amount of shock factor.
This novella is about a blossoming social media influencer who is going through a divorce with her partner and bumping into a man who has been stalking her accounts for quite some time. Thinking that having a one night rebound might help to ease the heartache of her divorce, she goes on a date with him and ends up going home with him.
In the spirit of being honest, I don’t think this novella was for me. I found it difficult to like Tara Bardot, one of the main characters. She was a little too fixated on her influencer lifestyle to acknowledge that she was inadvertently pushing her husband and best friend out of her life. And Declan Hayes, second main character, was a little too flippant with his one night stands and very into his obsession with Tara. Which I understand is the premise of this novella. I did appreciate the fast pace of the plot and the decision that Tara came to very quickly at the end of the book. I also liked that the chapters were in both the character’s Point of View.
One night stand is a book about a girl who is an influencer. She has a stalker, which she finds out the hard way.
The book is a nice inbetween book if you want a quick read or just something else for once. Sometimes the many people can be confusing and especially the choices that have been made.
The story is based on a true story and it give a good warning about the use of social media. The adult parts arent that big so I think it could be like a new adult kinda book?
I liked to read this story, but it could have been even better in a bit slower pace. I would rate this book like 3,5 or 4 *
This got this ARC in exchange for my honest review. thank you for reading.
This is Tara and Declan's story. When Tara's husband tells her that he is divorcing her she is shocked but she shouldn't have be as she spends all her time on social media completely ignoring her husband but then she decides to go on a date with Declan not realising that he has been stalking her for some time and he is determined to get her and she doesn't realise that she has put herself in a dangerous situation. There are a few surprises in this book and I really enjoyed reading it and I look forward to reading more books by Kathryn Reign in the future.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Reading this book really reminds you to be careful of what you post and do online. In this book, we are following Tara who is a social media influencer, and Declan who seems to be stalking her accounts for a while. Tara thought it was just going to be some one-night stand-through app that her friend convinced her to use to find a hook-up but it turns out to be different. The ending was a surprise that I did not see coming.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received this ARC from Book Sirens. Leaving this review voluntarily. I really enjoyed this short story. The reality that so many people deal with this same issue is crazy to me. Especially with how social media is today. The way people can get addicted to the attention is a little scary to say the least. I really loved the story until the ending. I'm a little disappointed in Tara. Maybe there will be more of their story to better understand why she did what she did.
Tara is an influencer. She doesn’t do anything without posting about it online. When her husband leaves her she ends up having a One Night Stand that changes everything.
It’s one of them stories that when you’ve finished it makes you think and this made me think about how much time I spend on social media.
I’m not surprised it’s based on a true story as there are people that can’t survive without posting on social media about something.
I enjoyed this story. I would love more of Tara and Declan! The only thing I had a hard time with was it going from first to third person throughout the book. But the story line was amazing! I would love to see another book.
Arc copy from booksirens in exchange for an honest review.
I received an ARC copy of this book via booksirens, and I've got to say that I expected something else when I read the blurb. Though interesting, the story was a bit messy in my eyes and could have been written better...I didn't enjoy the book on the whole as it felt rushed and incomplete.
First and foremost, I know this was a short story so world building and character development are expected to be lacking... THAT BEING SAID, I have so many questions.
This will contain spoilers*** . . . . . Why was Declan allowed to be out if he was dangerous? Why didn't his sister report his "patterns" and push for him to go back to the asylum? If you knew someone was in danger and you knew the address WHY NOT SEND THE POLICE THERE INSTEAD OF WAITING UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN THEY'RE POTENTIALLY DEAD?? Why was Mark's timing so bad? Why was Roman's friend the only sensible chatacter? And Tara, babe, Declan is SO MANY RED FLAGS. You do not love him. Like what??
I gave 2 (wouldve been 2.5) stars because the message is to be aware of your online presence. Which is a very good point to make.
