GREAT BOOK! 5 out of 5 Stars!

Do you have any idea how much you can learn about biology from a single-celled organism? Now imagine learning from TWO single-celled organisms and you would have something almost close to this book! Like only the finest vintages of knowledge; it’s complex, beautiful, and easy to savor.

The Amoeba Sisters’ Cartoon Guide to Biology: Science Simplified turns the big scary Ogre of Biology (because Ogres are like onions; they have layers) and turns it into manageable pieces. Just like going from the Cell all the way to the Biosphere (pg. 16)!

The Amoeba Sisters have made an often inaccessible and difficult to grasp subject into a format that anyone can enjoy, both kid and adult alike.
Their art, wit, and humor combined with their approach to teaching makes this book (and the rest of their media) something that will not only help kids learn, but actually engage with the material.

Lastly, one of the best parts of this is at the end of every chapter is a section called “Before you Turn the Page”. When you or your child finish a chapter, this section has a small questionnaire chock full of pertinent questions specific to that chapter, so even if YOU aren’t an AMOEBA, you can still ask questions of your little biologist like you were one! And if I’ve learned anything, the best way to learn something well is to have teach it to others. Wouldn’t it be fun to have your kid become the teacher?

I love the Amoeba Sisters! They have been creatively making biology fun for years. I'm so excited about the new book. There are several things I like about it:
1) I love that the preface starts with why we should study biology--biology is hard so it's nice to have some encouragement to continue.
2) The book provides QR codes in sections that link back to relevant videos which makes it easy to accommodate different learning styles.
3) It has their signature graphics and humor that make the content so much easier to digest.
4) At the end of each chapter there is a "Before You Turn The Page" section that outlines the competencies you should have gotten from that chapter.
5) I even like the way the pages feel! They are the perfect texture for taking notes.

This is an excellent book that keeps children engaged and interested in science and biology. This book helps make hard concepts easier to understand for children. I absolutely love the pictures and the writing style and especially love the “ before you turn the page” part of the book as it helps reinforce the subjects learned in the chapter. I highly recommend this book! My kids couldn’t put it down!

I've personally examined the rough drafts of the book and watched the illustrator at her work.
Her sense of humor is amazing and skill at her craft speaks for itself.
The book is so elegant, so refined, and so sophisticated.
Students of biology are sure to have a memorable and amusing experience.

Love the Amoeba Sister videos but how does that translate into a book? Well, amazingly! My 10-year-old granddaughter picked up my copy and didn't want to stop reading it. She's always loved science, she said this book makes it fun to read about science. I found it has even been fun for me to get a little life-science refresher in a way that's creative and not at all boring.

A great way to learn Biology. It is witty and engaging. The takeaways at the end of each chapter help with the learning as well. An invaluable resource for students!

Disclosure: I am friends with and received a copy from one of the authors. However I also bought copies to give to others because I liked it so much!

If you have watched their YouTube videos you know exactly what to expect; low-jargon biology education focused on the essential concepts. Cartoons are present on most pages filled with absurdist humor and visual gags.

Based on my experience as a biology teacher, it is written at a level to serve as a primer for most of the topics taught in 9th grade Biology (at least based on the Texas curriculum ). I even think that an older student wanting to refresh themselves on the foundations of biology would get a lot out of reviewing this book. The science is accurate and the language is easily accessible to most middle schoolers. The cartoons are my favorite part and several illustrations made me laugh out loud.

In summary, if you or a kid you know enjoy the videos, they will enjoy this.
