Pamela Butchart is one the best writers of laugh-out-loud children’s fiction. If you haven’t read any of her numerous books then you are definitely missing out.

Get ready for more mayhem in year 2 as Butchart presents three new stories about Miss. Riley and class 2R. This is book 6 in the Wigglesbottom Primary series. Don’t be put off if you haven’t read the other five books, you’ll meet all the children right at the beginning and then there are three individual stories that will have you laughing out loud. The stories are illustrated by Becka Moor and whilst she uses a very limited colour palette (shades of green, grey and white), there is something very appealing and charming about them.

The cause of the chaos this time round…rabbits (who may or may not be planning to invade the school) have taken over the Grassy Bit outside 2R’s classroom window, a mysterious man who arrives at school and is causing Miss. Riley to do some bizarre hand-dancing, and a terrifying music teacher who may be a witch. Every day is different at primary school!

Butchart perfectly captures the everyday occurrences at primary school and how the imagination of children turns the mundane into incredible and wacky stories. The children always think things are much better or worse than they actually are. I love that Butchart has assembled a class of children that show the reader different ethnicities.

These reads are perfect for children who want to read something with more text than a picture book but still want lots of illustrations. Whether children are reading them with an adult or reading independently these are sure to provoke many laughs and make for thoroughly enjoyable reading. Recommended for 6+.

Miss 7 really enjoyed this (as she has the rest of the series). Her favourite of the three stories was the invasion of the fluffy furry bunny army!

Miss 7 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

This a little book with three short stories in. The first two are fine and the second one has some really nice moments, but I wasn't a fan of the third story called the 'bewitched violin'. There's an illustration of a violin teacher, where her shadow is different to her, and it's a bit creepy. Then she takes a few kids into this strange music room to teach them, and then they later start thinking she's a witch and is able to bewitch the violin. And I wasn't a fan.

Read with a nine year old girl, who was excited to read about bunnies, but they only appeared in the first story.
There’s nothing wrong with the stories in this book, but I think you probably need to have read more of the series to really understand who all the characters are.

I liked the bunny because it has a black spot on his eye and it looks like it was a pirate

Estos libros no pueden dejar de encantarme... Me gusta que con cada volumen que leo con mi hijo, él quiere leer cada vez más texto y no sólo las letras grandes.
