Cali may be out of the fire, but that doesn’t mean the heat is off.
Finn and Knoxx have been summoned to answer for their actions. The paparazzi and media are circling Kingston like vultures. People have questions, and they want answers. Tanner took pity on Cali, bringing Braxton, Bree, Knoxx, Finn, and Hoyt along for the ride; a decision they may regret.
Fallout from the fire isn’t Cali’s only problem. Already victim to a prank war in her own dorm, Cali finds herself in the middle of the first year crew’s saga. Can Cali remain Switzerland as the pranks continue to escalate, or will she be caught in the cross-hairs once again?
Gruesome scalpel work. New societies. Minor kidnappings. Death by glare. Just a typical day at Wiltshire.
Feeling guilty, homeless, and possessing only the clothes on her back, Cali tries to juggle the demanding Wiltshire academics, investigators who don’t think Cali is as innocent as she seems, a game with increasing stakes that Cali doesn’t know the rules to, and trying to hold on to the friends she’s made. Cali wanted to be seen, but this is not what she had in mind.
I love the guys. I love the banter. I love Snow Spite and the entire flatworm storyline. I love how Cali has a wide social circle that includes a healthy amount of female friends. I love her precious relationship with Zane and Sawyer. I love how after two thick, thick books we are still not 100% sure who is in the harem or who is behind the attacks to her, as it keeps me intrigued. Well, the entire world of Wiltshire feels like that – like Cali and the readers are missing something huge that will eventually be revealed and explain a lot.
I want more and if it takes two more years, so be it.
My complaints remain the same from the first book: the amount of typos is pretty distracting, which is surprising in a book clearly written with enough care to include QR codes to help understand Hoyt’s and Braxton’s accents. That, and I feel Cali will need to accept, soon, that the safest place for her is with the guys. She feels so combative to every little bit of offered help. She explains the reasons why in the book, but I will be happy when she grows past the immediate reaction that she is a burden and will be rejected by everyone around her for things that are not her fault, especially when she has been proven time and time again to be surrounded by honestly good and kind people. Much more of that and she will feel almost self-destructive in her refusals for support.
But hey, this is as glacial as a book gets and while I do not personally keep track of the timeline, I realize it has been a relatively short span of time in the story, even if it has been 2 years for us readers. So I can’t expect her to get over stuff so quick. But I do hope it happens soon-ish, for her sake. I care for these characters and wish them to be happy.
Okay so i have very mixed feelings about this second book. I was really looking forward to continue Cali´s story. It was very slow burn that i sometimes got a lil bored cuz nothing really happened. That´s why i liked the first book a bit more i guess. So since we only read from Cali´s PoV we don´t really know what the guys are feeling exactly, i mean we did not get a confirmation from them if they had girlfriends officially, or did we? (the ones Cali said had one) I feel that one of the guys has to be the first one to say something to Cali ( that they actually have a interest in her more than friends) I like Cali mostly, it was just in some moments i wanted to shake her. How she thought about herself and always had to apologize when it was not her fault. She is just that kind. I liked her friends Sawyer and Zane, but thru the book my opinion of Sawyer changed. How she just flirted with all of em, i felt with Cali. Got me thinking of Peytons path, with Peyton the heroine, her besties Madison and Lucas. Two girls and one guy, when the other girl trying to get with the heroine´s guys. I just hope that´s not the case My fave in this book was maybe Finn and Knoxx, still i missed them i hope we will see more of em in the next book. But Hoyt was also close by, he was thinking clearly and being there for Cali Braxton and Tanner where sometimes being a bit childish , but i liked them. And omg i did not think Colin would be like that, i changed my mind about him. OMG that ending, nooo Caliiiiiiii don´t do that. It´s not really a bad cliffhanger , but it leaves us hanging
I really like this story but it's soooo slow. Slow with the romance, slow with actual developments, and slow with time covered. I like slow-burn romance but this is getting a little ridiculous because no one has even kissed yet and it's still pretty unclear if a couple of the guys actually have girlfriends. Something else that really bothers me is the lack of physical description of Cali. I would like to at least know what color hair & eyes she has. She was actually starting to bug me because she got stubborn about ignoring the obvious danger and she is being a little too oblivious but I guess that's not a big deal because if she didn't have something wrong with her she would be too perfect and that would be annoying as well. I just hope we don't have to wait another 2 years for the next installment!
