With nowhere else to go, the Tartans evacuate both their citizens and the Hawaiian refugees to Galveston, the capital city of New Texas. Surrounded by pre-wave technology, Felicity has never been more uncomfortable while Winter thrives in her position as Assistant Director of the New Anaphedarin project.
The shift in Tartan dynamics has caused some friction between the years-long group of friends, but as uncomfortable as the Athenians are, the Hawaiians are having an even harder time adjusting; particularly Zac, whose main talents have become unnecessary.
To make things worse, Oliver is unsure of where his loyalties lie, but he's beginning to think he made a big mistake throwing in with River and her Tartans. A thought that becomes stronger when he begins taking care of Seven's pregnant widow, Sierra Knowles
The epic finale in the Stone World Saga is here. It's perfect for fans of World War Z, Fallout, and Mockingjay.
Ugh, wanted this to be better. I was freaking all over the place. I felt like nothing was delivered. Its the most frustrated I've ever been with a book or series. Book 2 was good but all the others lack luster. I wonder if the editor even read the series before publishing.. So much plot work is needed.
When we move to one of the two biggest epicenter s of the remaining US population, we get to see how the small groups we fell in love with in previous books handle moving to the "big" city. Some survive, some flourish, some wither in the Mega city of Galveston.
I use audio books to read since it allows me to listen while driving, etc. So this review has to make that disclosure.
Fletcher wrote a story that went a long ways into character development. She mixes good and bad into her characters. At times I wanted to hit some of the stupid mistakes being made by those people, just like I want to at times in life. The title fits this book perfectly, first world problems in the midst of a zombie takeover of the world. It is not as action based as previous books in this series, but once I adjusted to that I enjoyed what Fletcher has done.
Now the negative. The audio versions release was pushed back repeatedly. I was anxious for it to come out so grew frustrated. I downloaded it the first day it was released from Audible. There are problems with that release. With about six hours left repeatedly there are blank spots. Many of those over about two hours. I kept hitting fast forward to get out of those spots and probably missed a little of the story. Hopefully some good editing will fix this soon. I am not holding this against Fletcher though since the company to publish the audio version is a reputable one.
Another interesting point. This story was promoted as the finale of the saga. Ending on a couple major cliff hangers makes me believe the door has been left wide open for it to be continued. Even if it ends here I have enjoyed the journey.
Didn't like it as much as the rest of the series, as the resolution to some major plot points felt a little lame, but it was still pretty good. Also there was a lot of kissing and veiled references to intimacy, which knocked it down a star. Nothing overtly inappropriate, but enough to make me a bit uncomfortable reading those parts. Just something to be aware of.
This installment of River, The Stones and the other villagers didn’t disappoint! It truly is a story of first world problems! The juxtaposition of placing The Stones and other villagers in a city setting really provided another, deeper understanding for all the characters I’ve grown to love! I really enjoyed the story and wish there was more!
I took of 1/2 Star as the story was marked as the series finale but nothing was resolved. 15 hour audio book and just about everything was left open. Grrr!
