The graduate program I’m applying to has some classes about organizational culture and psychology so my interest was already peaked when I found Paul Meade & Laura Gallaher’s book, The Missing Links: Launching a High Performing Company Culture.

The concepts in the book are the very model that NASA now uses and because of its success, it has been a model for other organizations across different sectors. It was the travesty of the Columbia Space Shuttle Explosion that started the investigation of organizational culture’s importance. It isn’t just technology and higher-ups that need to run well but every single person in an organization needs to be understood, accountable, included, and productive. One mistake can lead to a domino effect. There are 3 parts to the book. 1) Foundation for the science the model is created from 2) Model overview 3) How to implement the model. There are videos, activities, downloads, and a plethora of resources to use to help make organizational culture and psychology a part of your organization.

I was surprised that I enjoyed learning so much about psychology, anthropology, (ok, not this one because it’s my undergrad degree) management, and business together. It’s all practical knowledge that would be useful for any work environment with the science to back it up. I have worked for many a business and organization that could use this book to update their own models. I’m excited to have this in my collection for when I start the program. I feel like it will come in handy.

This book will appeal to those who are interested in understanding the intricacies of organizational leadership. It also takes a look at organizational structure and how it impacts productivity. Readers might find NASA’s approach to it; quite interesting. The book dives into ways that leadership is effective and apparent within an organization, but takes a humanistic look at how we behave, interact and respond. Accountability and inclusivity are discussed as key elements to run a functional organization as a responsible leader. This book could certainly add value to the knowledge of people who are hoping to be leaders or want to run a successful organization or enterprise. If you want to address organizational inefficiency and create an environment where technical difficulties are avoided and impediments are overcome; then you might want to read this book.

I have been extensively studying the psychology of organizational culture and its impact on the productivity of teamwork. As soon as I laid my eyes on this book, I decided I have to read this as it vividly explains organizational psychology and its origin. I was astounded to discover how we are genetically wired to act in a certain way and can ace the organizational culture.

The author took an in-depth approach and has elaborated how our D.N.A is coded to make us act in a certain way. The authors have given various examples to elucidate organizational psychology and its working which makes it even more intriguing and easy to understand. I am glad I found this book and totally recommend it to every team and organization leader for a better understanding of how organizational psychology works.

A different way of looking at business

I found this book interesting. I love Science in general, and being able to go behind-the-scenes to the inner workings of NASA up to a certain point after the disaster that Columbia went through. The authors get into the psychology behind organizational culture while including management and anthropology. The inclusion of anthropology was not wholly unexpected. It made sense once they started mentioning it as anthropology deals with studying human behavior among other things. In a company, it is not just the technology that is needed to function efficiently, but the people who work there as well since without them, there is no company (or very little of one). Over all, I really enjoyed all the lessons the book held and plan on using it in my life. Highly recommended!

I have to say I am surprised at how educated I am after reading this. It is filled with very detailed information about NASA and even anthropology. It is very well explained, and I was able to pick up pretty quickly even though I wasn't too informed about NASA previous reading this book so I feel much confident now in the subject. I recommend this book to anyone that is keen on learning more about this procedure and how NASA works. Solid read!

When looking for a proper book about organizational culture and how teams should be built in order to make sure we settle our company bases, The Missing Links is the one to read.
This book’s authors really know what they are talking about. They have been able to develop an equipped masterclass to help humanity evolve as team members, as they themselves suggested. And I believe it serves this purpose since when finishing this read, we feel we have more tools and techniques to build better teams able to sustain our company’s policies or to become better team players we are not yet leaders ourselves. There are many walks of life in which teamwork is found and all of them have the chance to be good ones if they take some time to read these pages like I did.

As its description says, this book is one each and every leader of any type of business should have the chance to read if they desire to be more productive, which I guess we all want to be.
This narrative is written in an educational way, it is loaded with interesting information on how to create good and proactive teams. Before reading this book, I thought there was not a right answer to the question: how can we build good-quality team players?
Drs. Gallaher and Meade are knowledgeable writers and they apply their vast expertise to map out “The Missing Links” between human nature and organizational culture. This volume brings together information from a variety of theoretical and empirical perspectives, but mainly from
the author’s own way of looking at things.

The Columbia Space shuttle is arguably the most devastating event in NASA history and how they managed to prevent a repeat from happening is what this book is about. The authors are the ones who were consulted and reimagined the operational culture at NASA and they also give ways that others can use their knowledge to reimagine their own companies operational culture and behaviors. The importance of the person behind the task is a great concept to explore and I am glad I read this book to help me understand how it all works in greater detail.
