Volcanoes erupt, houses go up in flames, a steamboat plows through the water, and 15 other illusions come to life when you use the specially ruled acetate screen provided in an inside pocket.
I got this book back in 1976 when I was thirteen and it sets to this day in amongst my film book library. It's a really fun bit of history from the Victorian era and the illusion of "movement" while somewhat overstated to us in these more "enlightened" times, is still charming. This book has been out of print for many years and the real trick is getting a copy with a good acetate sheet in the front pocket. Without that, it's useless.
