The Wanderers had known their fair share of danger throughout the centuries. They had been an institution for four hundred years, roaming and exploring the wild, mysterious Astocian Sea, searching for adventure.
But no Wanderer had ever known a danger like this. A terrible evil, a powerful enemy, has designs to enslave the known world, and eradicate all that is good and beautiful.
Their only hope lies in Estouj, a different kind of Wanderer, one who has been passed down a Quest. Along with his companions, Estouj must elude the clutches of the cruel evil wizard and his skeleton minions, and find a way through this Quest, the most perilous one anyone has ever faced.
Tatiana is 1/3 of the Tawney trio who wrote the Wanderer's Trilogy, and 1/8 of the crazy Tawney clan. She has always been an avid reader and writer, and one day when she and her siblings were playing in the pool, they had a crazy idea. And somehow the idea turned into a book, and the book turned into a trilogy.
Tatiana is from Arizona, but lives in Kansas where she attends college.
This book was the fun story of adventure I had been looking for! Filled with great characters and moments that had me grinning! And oh those creepy creatures too! Although written by three authors the writing style was absolutely seamless and felt very classic. I'm excited to see what happens next for our Wanderers!
This book was amazing. The characters and plot, amazing. By the first chapter I was drawn into the world of Wanderers and Skeleton Kings. Now, you can tell this was self-published; there were a lot of sentences that I had to re-read to understand, and so that would be why I rated it four stars. Other than that though, I loved everything. I could totally tell this was written by three siblings and I think that was what made it so unique. If you love C.S. Lewis, this book is for you. How it was written reminded me so much of the Chronicles of Narnia and I loved it. I'm looking forward to the next two books and to see what's gonna happen with Stephen, Peter, Finn, and Eloise!
First off, wow! I received this book as a gift for a giveaway package I won from the Tawney siblings, and I was so excited as it was already on my summer reading list! I knew I would be in for an adventure; I was just surprised at just how big of one it was. I was hooked right from the beginning, like introduction beginning, not even the first chapter beginning. As they explained how the history of Astocia began and how the world was formed, they warned it advance it might not be a very original series….I’m going to counter that. The Perilous Quest is a very original book in my opinion, I am very good at predicting where a plot is going to go from my many years of reading, and I absolutely could not figure out where this trio would take me next. It was just one obstacle after another. And I loved it!! I loved that thrill. In the first few moments we meet one of the MC’s named Estouj (love that name by the way), and he is very mysterious. He continues being mysterious for a good long while as he joins the Wanderers in their desire and pull towards adventure. Upon arriving, he meets two guys, one named Peter and one named Finn. They allow him into their small group and Estouj has some difficulty not blurting out his past….I was literally forcing my hands not to just skip pages from the anticipation. I was like, who is Estouj really? Just TELL ME!! I finally did get told who he was….but I shall not spoil it. You will have to read it yourself to find out! I will say this, there wasn’t one moment in the book where I wasn’t being pulled to know what happens next. This book is full of cliff hangers and dangers that make you want to keep going. One moment in particular is when Estouj sets out into the vast open sea straight into a storm. Just the night before he was hearing stories about the thrill of being called to the ocean, to explore the unknown and the call of adventure. And I felt that. The Tawney siblings wrote it in a way that made me desire the same things Estouj was desiring and feeling. He was a very relatable character as were Peter and Finn and I felt like I was going every step of the way with these three. So, when Estouj rides up a monstrous wave and faces the dangers of the ocean, I was suddenly at awe as he was. I have always loved the ocean, but my sister is the one that wants to live by it. I am more of a country gal, I love the trees. But the Perilous Quest actually made me feel the call of the ocean and for a while when I was in the pages of this book I wanted to go there. Not only that, I felt like I was there. It was awesome! The Tawney siblings are self-published like me, and their book is a true gem. It is unique and special, and they are so in tune with each other that I couldn’t even tell who wrote which chapter. In a sea of gold, you have the traditionally published, but don’t overlook the self-published which are the diamonds among the gold. Most of my favorite books are self-published, and now I have a new one to add the favorites. I am not even kidding; it was that good! I am also at awe with how close these three are, kinda makes me want to write a book with my own sister. I can’t wait for book two and three!! Thank you Tatiana, Jude, and Kateri. Keep on writing!
There was something about this book that was just so enchanting! It’s hard to put into words, but this story made me feel as if I wasn’t just a reader. I was invited to come along on the adventure. And what an adventure! This is your classic story of good versus evil, of the triumph of love and purity, of the strength of friendship. Sure, there were some fantasy cliches, but honestly, when did that become a bad thing? Things like the power of friendship and love or being chosen for a quest show up in so many stories because they’re strong ways to tell a story and they speak to us as readers. In this story, Estouj and his Wanderer friends have to face challenge after challenge in their quest to find the one thing that can stop a terrible evil. One of the things I liked about this story was that there wasn’t just one big challenge. The book was a journey through a series of smaller quests and fights, which kept me engaged and wanting to read more. And throughout all of it, there were these beautiful relationships between the characters. The authors don’t shy away from emotions and inner turmoil, and I think that’s really a strength to the story. Overall, this book was an adventure, and I can’t wait until the next one! (Also, as a side note, it’s written as a joint effort by three siblings, which is honestly so impressive to me. So just add that to the list of great qualities this book has.)
I picked up this book not knowing hardly anything about it, and I ended up really enjoying it.
Estouj learns to travel around the Astocian Sea as a wanderer. He makes friends, explores new places, faces creative enemies, and tries to save the world all at the same time.
The absolute most impressive aspect of this book is it's tone. The narration immediately places you in a fantasy world and sets the tone for the entire book. I was blown away at how quickly I was carried to the Astocian, and how immersed I felt in Estouj's story.
If you picked it up hoping for YA, you might be a little disappointed. This book reads as middle grade fantasy with some aspects just being a little too silly for YA. That said, it's excellent for a middle grade fantasy. The story is easy to follow, and it's creative. The world, the characters, and the story, make for a really fun read.
I definitely recommend this book for readers who enjoy exploring whimsical fantasy worlds and world-saving quests.
Ahh this was so good!! I loved Estouj and Peter and Finn. They reminded me of the Hobbits in The Lord of the Rings, and their friendship was awesome. It was very much an adventure story written in the same way that the masters C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien wrote. Which I admire so much! I loved the way that the Tawney siblings told this story, it was so well done and all the dialogue was ✨fantastic✨ Estouj and the other wanderers felt very real. I CANNOT wait for the next one. Partly Because I need to know what happens to a certain character who was introduced at the end, (if you’ve read it you know who I’m talking about) and partly just because I love the story and I need more! Well done guys, please keep writing! 🧡🧡
What a wonderful book! I literally read it in one day—I was hooked! It’s set in such a fascinating world, with tons of lore, stories, and creatures. I loved getting to know the characters, too! I can’t wait to read the next book whenever it comes out ❤️
This book read like a classic adventure story. It was intriguing, captivating, and made me keep flipping the pages. It's not an incredibly long book, which was refreshing, and it was littered with shocking plot twists!
The characters in this book were hilarious and easy to love. There was a brother-like bond between the Wanderers that really made me care about all three of them.
Tatiana, Kateri, and Jude write together excellently! The writing style was fluid and impressive considering three people had to blend their styles together. It was really well done.
However, there were a lot of spelling/grammatical errors that made me stop and think for a moment. And a lot of repetitive phrases that seemed a bit unnecessary. It didn't take that much away though.
