Angelo and Sam’s romance is palpable, serene and hot at the same time. Their interactions are exciting: whether they were at work dealing with difficult medical cases, or discovering Florence, or in more intimate moments, their chemistry is intense. The fact that the author manages to create such intensity without including explicit scenes in the story is a very valuable plus.
Something that captured my attention was how Ms. Hardy balances medical terms (briefly explained in an easy language), tourism and romance so effectively that you don’t feel the plot going on one specific way. The setting of the story is so well developed you can see yourself in Florence while Sam and Angelo explore the city. Also, the secondary characters create circumstances that makes the book interesting.
This the first medical romance story written—very well written, by the way—by Ms. Hardy that I’ve read. And I have to say that she nails it! A book that makes you believe in love against all odds. And, P.S., ILOVE the cover of this book!!
What a fabulous story. You can always rely on this author to deliver emotionally satisfying books with well rounded characters who you root for. I really enjoyed this one. Second chance love is always catnip for me!
Really soft and gentle romance. I liked it a lot, and I think this book is a good example of Kate Hardy doing what she does exceptionally well: interesting medical cases (Sam's a fetal surgeon), enthusiastic travelogues and delicious meals, a calm but emotionally deep romance, and protagonists committed to caring about and thinking the best of each other and who adore each other's nerdiness (they use lasers to save babies' lives and it's clear they know how cool that is, and also Angelo in particular geeks out over Roman history).
One note for potential readers: both Sam's and Angelo's individual and combined backstories involve family members with addictions; Sam's brother died from an overdose, and Angelo's father narrowly avoided doing so and is two years sober during this book. I thought this aspect of the book was handled sensitively, without an exploitative focus.
