Lucky is the story of the American an epic juxtaposition of glitter and tragedy. Two women- one pop-star, one heiress- are connected through the transcendental nature of time and space. Join America's favorite pop-star, Rhea Harmonia, as she tumbles down an existential rabbit hole... through the story of Rebekah and the Harkness family (of the Standard Oil fortune), American history, Western thinking, math, music, philosophy, and time. Is the American Dream anything but a nightmare?
It's been said many times in this review section, but I feel like reading two people's stories simultaneously makes the book so satisfying to read. Your mind gets refreshed whenever you finish Rhea's story chapter followed by another chapter of Rebekah's.
I feel like the best parts of the book can be found in the last chapters. Not gonna spoil anything here, but basically Rhea reflects on her journey to superstardom and learned about Rebekah's past mistakes. Then she infers the most important life lessons about tragedies and resilience like a true self-help coach. Jokes aside, even though Rhea's advice are by no means novel, they're still super practical even to the most cynical of people.
I don't agree with everything Kristina says about the golden ratio, though there's beauty about the number in a way that describes the irrationality of nature in the most rational manner possible.
Lucky is a beautifully written book with great insights into concepts of mathematics, history, and Greek mythology. I loved the parallels that Kristina Parro draws between the lives of Rhea Harmonia and Rebekah Harkness, especially because of the author's lyrical writing style (the chapters honestly read like an epic song!) This book has two of the strongest protagonists I have ever read. After the first few chapters, the book picks up a great pace, making it a perfect quick read. For me, the highlight of the book is the tangents that Kristina takes from the storyline to explore ideas like art and universal code! So overall, I'm extremely glad to have read this book because it is definitely one of the best I've read in 2021 so far. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to all the Taylor Swift fans because the book is after all inspired by the folklore album (get ready for a lot of easter eggs btw!) and just everyone who likes to read! Also... can we just take a moment to appreciate how stunning the book cover is! I am absolutely in love..
